When they arrived in the city, the city gates had just opened.
When they arrived at He Family Restaurant, all the other restaurants in the area were still closed and there were few people on the street, but He Family Restaurant was lit up.
Ruan Meng knocked on the door tentatively.
A neatly dressed waiter opened the door, recognized Ruan Meng, and with a delighted expression, quickly invited her to the backyard.
In the instant she turned around, Ruan Meng saw that the restaurant was being cleaned, with chairs upside down on the tables, and other people either kneeling to wipe the floor or wiping the seats.
As Ruan Meng walked, she asked, "Hey buddy, you're up so early? Did you close late last night, so you're up early to do cleaning?"
The young waiter smiled and shook his head. "This is how it is every day in our shop. It's a rule set by the old master when he was still alive."
"Legend has it that my great-grandfather ran a tea stall on the island. He was poor at the time and couldn't afford good tea. He said that he could only work hard on his attitude towards guests and the details."
“At other tea stalls, customers can just rinse the teacups they've drunk from in water, and one bucket of water can last from morning till night.”
"But my grandfather said that when he washed teacups, he would rinse them three times with water after each use, so as not to dirty the water in the bucket."
"Grandpa said he wasn't a smart man and only knew how to use stupid methods. The tea stalls next door laughed at him, saying he couldn't earn much money in a day and had to run his legs off just to fetch water."
"Grandpa didn't care about other people's opinions and remained the same. The tea stall business was dismal until the following year when it began to turn around."
Ruan Meng laughed and said, "Because the guests noticed that your grandfather's dishes were washed cleaner than other people's?"
The young waiter gave a thumbs up, saying, "Tea stalls hope to avoid customers, so they won't know whether the tea is clean or not."
"But over time, customers noticed that the bowls at Grandpa's tea stall had been washed until they had a patina, and even after a year, the tea was still crystal clear without a trace of dirt."
"Only by comparing can you realize that other people's teapots are not washed often, so over time, limescale gradually floats up."
"The He family's business started from a tea stall. The shopkeeper would repeatedly tell us about their business philosophy, and we kept it in mind."
“Every day after closing, no matter how late, we clean and tidy the place. The South Island is humid, and even if we clean it last night, there will still be moisture in the shop in the morning.”
"If we don't clean it properly, the guests might slip and fall. The tables and chairs also don't look clean enough."
Ruan Meng asked with a smile, "It's true that the employer has strict requirements. But you guys, with twice the work and getting up earlier, don't you feel tired?"
The young waiter smiled broadly, "Of course not! These rules in the shop not only teach us to run the business honestly, but also to be good people and not to cheat or shirk our responsibilities."
"Although I clean more frequently, the shop pays me more than other shops."
"At He Family Restaurant, as long as you do your job honestly, He Family Restaurant will take care of you until you grow old!"
Ruan Meng was surprised; this idea was quite advanced!
Seeing the Ruan family's curiosity, the young waiter thought this was also a way to let his business partners understand He Family Restaurant, and proudly said:
"Being a shop assistant is a job that thrives on youth. Once you get older and can't work anymore, you'll be unwanted everywhere, especially in the South Island, where as long as you're offered food, people will fight over the work..."
The waiter then changed the subject, "But our He Family Restaurant is different from others."
"As long as you work diligently and conscientiously, you don't need to wait until you get old. After a few years, the manager will delegate authority and promote you to a managerial position, responsible for purchasing, managing people, etc."
"If you make rapid progress, you may be transferred to another business as a manager after the shopkeeper goes home to recuperate."
Ruan Meng asked, "He Family Restaurant, there must be a limit to the business, right? What if the lower-level managers, like you, grow up and become successful, then the other managers will have to make way for others?"
The young waiter shook his head and explained with a smile, "Miss, you're overthinking it. The employer has taken this into consideration for us."
“Every year, the He family sets aside a certain amount of revenue to start new businesses. In fact, we, the family members working there, know perfectly well whether it makes money or not.”
“After deducting costs and labor, we don’t actually make much money, but we understand the owner’s intention: to provide everyone with a place to live and the ability to earn money through their own skills!”
Upon hearing this, the Ruan family members all nodded in agreement.
The group arrived at the back room, where a young waiter bowed and led them in, saying, "The manager told us last night that you are some distinguished guests who will arrive this morning."
"I just didn't expect that you all got up so early, just like us."
The Ruan family thanked them with smiles, and a familiar laugh came from the back room.
