Chapter 8 Wild Boar

“Sister-in-law, the amount in the banknotes is large. This place is poor, and it might cause us trouble.”

Ruan Meng reminded him, and his elder brother Ruan Qian nodded without offering any further explanation.

The second brother, Ruan Yi, laughed heartily, "My little sister has suddenly become so smart, even I'm a little unaccustomed to it..."

The third brother, Ruan Zheng, chuckled, "Doesn't this just make you look stupid, second brother? Haha!"

After sharing the jicama, we deliberately left two for tomorrow. The family then drifted off to sleep, and soon the sound of snoring filled the air.

But some people didn't fall asleep.

The eldest brother remembered his parents' dying words; the eldest sister-in-law, having shed her day's bravado, revealed her worry in the darkness—the medicinal herbs had been destroyed. Although the youngest sister suddenly seemed like a different person, claiming to recognize the herbs…

But her husband was in poor health and needed medicine. Even if she carried silver, she might not be able to buy it on this deserted island, or even have enough to go around.

In the darkness, Ruan Meng could tell from their breathing that her elder brother and sister-in-law were awake. Having just arrived in this strange world, she also had some trouble sleeping and missed her former comrades.

That's why Ruan Meng is so sensitive to the sounds around her.

After a rustling sound, Ruan Meng heard a startled cry and immediately rolled over and sat up.

The elder brother and sister-in-law were already light sleepers, so they got up and sat up. Ruan Meng was already at the door.

Peeking through the crack in the door, I saw a black object banging against Granny Liu's door. The one who cried out in alarm was none other than Granny Liu!

"Brother, sister-in-law, don't come out! Close the door!"

Ruan Meng grabbed a wooden bucket and slipped away.

The eldest brother was worried and quickly woke up the third brother, Ruan Zheng.

Ruan Zheng was completely confused. After waking up, he heard his older brother's words and the commotion outside, and immediately ran out.

The eldest brother saw the second brother drooling in his sleep and affectionately covered him with a blanket.

There were loud banging sounds outside. The eldest brother and sister-in-law were worried, so they picked up the last wooden bucket, hid it behind the door, and observed what was happening outside.

To their surprise, under the moonlight, the usually taciturn and adorable little sister became agile and quick-witted, lifting a wooden bucket and smashing it over the head of the black object!

The third brother, Ruan Zheng, was highly skilled in martial arts, which was why the eldest brother felt comfortable letting him go out.

Ruan Zheng coordinated with a spinning kick, and dozens of kicks converged. From the perspective of the eldest brother and sister-in-law, they saw that the third brother's movements had slowed down, while the youngest sister's movements remained agile!

Every move he made exuded ruthlessness!

The sister-in-law looked at her husband in surprise, but Ruan Qian remained calm and showed no sign of anything amiss!

Finally! About fifteen minutes later, with a piercing scream, the black object finally fell to the ground with a "bang".

The second brother, Ruan Yi, finally woke up, got up, went to the door, and asked his elder brother and sister-in-law what had happened.

Upon learning that his younger sister and third brother were outside, Ruan Yi opened the door and rushed inside.

"Little sister, your second brother is here to protect you!"

When her older brother and sister-in-law saw this, her younger sister was clearly frightened and jumped back.

The third brother's voice came from not far away, "Second brother! We weren't scared by the wild boar, but we were scared by you!"

The second son saw the rope Ruan Meng had borrowed from Granny Liu in the house, which was used to tie up the wild boar. He felt relieved and then retorted, "What do you mean?!" (Image from the internet) After saying that, he couldn't help but laugh.

A light came on nearby; it turned out to be the village chief's house.

The Song family, the Fan family, and the village chief all rushed over upon hearing the commotion.

The village chief kicked the wild boar on the ground, and after learning what had happened, he showed a relieved expression.

Grandma Liu had already come out of the house to express her gratitude, and the village chief thanked her on her behalf. If it weren't for the Ruan family, and only Grandma Liu was there, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

The village chief reminded them, "You can eat the wild boar meat, or you can send it to the city to sell during the day."

"However, three members of your family need to work in the mines. Fresh wild boar meat can sell for twenty coins a pound in the city."

"This wild boar looks to weigh at least 500 jin. If we can sell it successfully, we can use the proceeds to offset our corvée labor debt!"

The siblings were overjoyed to hear this.

"My family has a wooden cart. If you're going to sell it in the city, you can borrow it first. Otherwise, it'll be difficult to carry such a heavy cart all the way to the city!"

The eldest brother and sister-in-law had already come out and solemnly thanked the village chief. They immediately told the second brother to go back with the village chief to get the cart.

The Song and Fan families offered to provide manpower if they needed to transport wild boars to the city for sale.

On behalf of my elder brother, I would like to express my gratitude again to them for coming out to check and help late at night.

Upon inquiry, it was learned that both families had some private savings that they did not want to give to the state government officials, which was why they had not taken them out.

They could barely afford to pay the money to offset their corvée labor obligations, but that was all they could get.

So the three families decided to take advantage of the beachcombing today to collect more seafood, sell it in the capital, and exchange it for some daily necessities.
