Chapter 7 Beachcombing

The temple had limited space, so they squeezed out a small room. Four of the ten Song brothers slept on the bed, protecting Wen Shishi...

The other six people slept on the floor at random.

The long journey of exile was fraught with peril, but now I can finally get a good night's sleep...

But everyone was awake, unable to sleep.

In the quiet room, only the little figure in the center of the bed was gently snoring.

"This little thing is sleeping quite soundly!" Second Brother Song Chengjian mocked.

"I think my sister is great. I'm so much happier with her!" Old Ten said with a smile, hugging his blanket tightly.

"Yes, indeed." Song Chenghou looked at the sleeping Wen Shishi, his heart softening like a pool of spring water.

He had held his younger brothers when they were little; they were all so adorable...

But for my younger sister, this was her first time.

Yet, in such circumstances, it brought us unexpected motivation.

I held on until I reached Hainan Island, thinking I was exhausted, but unexpectedly, I found myself with a little sister...

It will make them want to live a good life...

At the very least, I can't let my younger sister go hungry or cold.

Lying in bed, Song Chenghou suggested, "Let's go out for a walk tomorrow. The abbot and the masters are all very kind, but we shouldn't disturb them too much..."

After all, they have ten mouths, no, now it's eleven.

They felt bad about putting too much burden on the temple.

"Hmm," said the second brother, Song Chengjian, "I'll take the fifth brother out for a walk to see if there's any space we can build a house on..."

Among the ten brothers of the Song family, the second brother was skilled in martial arts and had strong practical abilities.

The fifth brother followed his second brother from a young age and also learned to do handicrafts well.

Now, they are penniless and have no way to make money for the time being, so renting a house is simply a pipe dream.

At this point, Wen Shishi on the bed suddenly trembled twice, sighed deeply, and then called out, "Grandpa!"

Song Chenghou quickly moved closer and gently patted her back, coaxing her to sleep.

Wen Shishi is so young, she must have been quite frightened when she fell into the sea...

Waking up in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by unfamiliar people, Song Chenghou felt a pang of heartache.

The other brothers in the Song family were the same; they all secretly resolved to take good care of their sister.

The next morning.

Wen Shishi groggily got up and found her tenth brother, Song Chengxin, standing guard beside her.

Looking around, Wen Shishi finally remembered that the plane she and her grandfather were on crashed into the sea, and that's how she ended up here.

My older brother told me that this place is also called Hainan Island, but it's not the same place as the Hainan Island where Wen Shishi is.

This is the Dayin Dynasty, not the Hua Kingdom where Wen Shishi lives.

Since she can't go back, her brother said he would do his best to help her find her family...

After spending time together yesterday, Wen Shishi has come to trust her tenth brother completely and believes that they are all good people.

Her eldest brother, second brother, sixth brother, and tenth brother were all very kind to her.

The last bit of fear Wen Shishi felt about the unfamiliar environment finally vanished.

The tenth son, Song Chengxin, carried Wen Shishi outside, intending for his eldest brother to braid his sister's hair...

Just then, I saw the woman next to the child that Sixth Brother had helped treat yesterday arrive and sit in the hall.

"Oh! Is this the little girl we rescued yesterday?"

The woman looked at Wen Shishi and said happily.

She handed two neatly folded sets of children's clothes from her lap to Song Chenghou, saying, "These are clothes my little treasure wore when he was little..."

It's already been washed clean, and I couldn't bear to throw it away. I originally planned to save it for his younger siblings.

Seeing that you were new here and probably didn't have any children's clothes with you, I brought two sets for the children to wear..."

After saying that, she pointed to a basket of sweet potatoes on the table and a packet of dried fish wrapped in oil paper, and said with a smile, "It should have been delivered yesterday..."

You saved my baby, what a huge favor!

But my husband came home late yesterday, and the baby just happened to be resting and needed someone to look after him...

So this morning, I quickly steamed them and brought them over. They're all from my own garden, they're not worth much, just a small token of my appreciation...

These dried fish were brought back by my husband last night. I got up early to fry them, and they're still piping hot, so you can try them..."

The woman spoke casually, but the Song brothers knew that this must be very precious to them as well.

There were about twenty sweet potatoes in the basket on the table.

Based on the consistency of the porridge served at the temple last night, these sweet potatoes could last an average family at least ten days.

However, the woman was so sincere in wanting to give it to them that it was hard to refuse her kind offer, and the Song brothers didn't want to add too much burden to the temple, so they had no choice but to accept it with embarrassment.

"Wait a minute, the fisherwomen and I are going to the beach to gather seafood. If you're interested, you can come with us..."

If you're lucky, you might catch one or two fish, which is a treat!

However, we always go in groups. Also, don't go to the shore at night, someone warned you, right?

The Song brothers nodded, and Song Chenghou said gratefully, "Thank you, elder sister. We'd like to try our luck too, so please take us with you later!"

The woman smiled and nodded, then immediately turned around, pointed in a direction, and agreed on a meeting point.

The woman needed to go home to get her equipment and make preparations.

"Brother, what is 'beachcombing'?"

Wen Shishi ate the sweet potato her older brother had peeled and asked curiously.

Hearing that "brother" made Song Chenghou feel incredibly comforted.

Wen Shishi called out to them so naturally, as if they had been siblings for a long time...
