Chapter 35 Stir-fried Pork Intestines

Previously, Pei Yao used thick wooden sticks to build the barbecue area, which were directly embedded in the mud. They would char after being burned twice and become unusable.

This time, with the addition of wire, Pei Yao aimed for both aesthetics and durability.

She planned to arrange all the thin wires into small grids one by one, and then fix them in place with wires to make small grids composed of squares.

This completes a detachable barbecue grill. (Just a regular rectangular barbecue grill.)

Why does Pei Yao know this?

This is thanks to her previous experience in the countryside, where she wanted to grill her own food, but after looking online, she found that barbecue grills cost several hundred yuan.

As a thrifty and hardworking young woman (actually, she was poor and reluctant to spend money), she naturally searched for tutorials online, studied how to make a barbecue grill, and then prepared to make one herself.

After researching, she discovered that using mud and sheet metal was the most economical way to make it.

This saves a lot of iron, and with this layer of soil protecting it, the iron sheet is not so easy to melt.

Making a barbecue grill is actually not difficult. I didn't make this kind before because I didn't have the materials, so I made a simplified version.

Since there were materials available today, Pei Yao quickly upgraded the version.

Pei Yao made two long, rectangular barbecue grills in one go. One could be used at the stall tomorrow, and the other she had a special use for tomorrow.

After it's done, I put it on an open space in the yard to air dry for a bit. Then I just put some burning charcoal in to burn off the moisture.

Pei Yao didn't have time to make the barbecue grill tray, so she thought she would make it later after dinner.

Meanwhile, Yunniang had finished pickling the water celery.

Pei Yichen had been helping her with the work, and when he came out after finishing, he saw the barbecue grill that Pei Yao had placed in the corner to dry, and he was extremely curious.

"Cousin, is this also a rack for roasting chicken wing insects?" Boys are always more perceptive about tools, and he recognized what Pei Yao's thing was for at a glance.

Pei Yao gave him a thumbs up and boasted, "Bingo, you really are my cousin, your brain is just as good as mine."

Pei Yichen, suddenly praised, scratched his head a little shyly: "Hehe..."

Then, somewhat puzzled, he asked Pei Yao, "But cousin, what does 'ice...dog' mean?"

Is he insulting me?

Pei Yichen said, "It's a tonic."

Pei Yao was surprised that she had blurted out a foreign word, so she quickly made a quick, joking remark: "You mean it's right. By the way, I made some extra pork intestines. Let's send some over to Aunt Qiaohui and the Liu family."

Pei Yao remembered that she had cooked too much pork intestines and water celery earlier; there was a whole pot of it, and they couldn't finish it all. So she decided to take some over to the two families.

A close neighbor is worse than a distant relative. Pei Yao felt that if she wanted to expand and strengthen her business in the future, she would need the help of her neighbors.

When Pei Yichen heard that she was going to give them that smelly pig intestine, his face immediately turned as ugly as if he were constipated.

"Cousin, are we really going to give them that stinky thing that used to hold pig...dung?"

He was genuinely worried that he and his cousin would be beaten up and thrown out.

Although he was very skeptical, he had already followed Pei Yao to the kitchen.

Pei Yao brought the plate of pig intestines to him and circled it under his nose: "Smell it, does it still smell?"

Pei Yichen was immediately greeted by the irresistible aroma of the pig intestines that wafted past him.

!!! !!! !

there is none left!

There's no smell at all!

It smells delicious!

What's going on? Is his nose hallucinating? Is he mistaking a foul smell for a pleasant one?

That can't be....

Pei Yichen took it from Pei Yao's hand and smelled it. It was indeed no longer fishy or foul-smelling as before; instead, it had a very rich fragrance.

He couldn't resist reaching out and grabbing one, then popping it into his mouth and chewing it.

This stir-fried pork intestine is incredibly delicious. It's fragrant, spicy, and fresh, with all sorts of flavors intertwining in your mouth. Taking a bite of the intestine reveals a crispy exterior and tender interior, with a juicy and chewy texture.

It's so tempting that you can't help but eat one and then want another.

Pei Yichen: "Mmm, mmm, mmm, delicious, cousin, this is really delicious."

Just as Pei Yichen was about to eat his second bite, Pei Yao slapped his hand away with a smile: "Come back and eat later. Go deliver the dishes first."

"Okay, quick, we'll deliver it now, and it'll be ready to eat when we get back."

In order to come back sooner and eat delicious stir-fried pork intestines, Pei Yichen quickly fawned over Pei Yao, helping her carry things and urging his cousin to come along.

The two went to Qiaohui's house first, because it was closer to their house.

Pei Yao knocked on the door. Aunt Qiaohui's voice came from inside: "Cong'er, go open the door."

Shen Cong put down what he was holding, got up and opened the door. As soon as he looked up, he saw Pei Yao: "Sister Yao."

He only called Pei Yao by name; he didn't want to call Pei Yichen by name. Pei Yichen was only a few months older than him, and he couldn't possibly call him "brother."

"Xiao Cong, I've come to see Aunt Hui." Pei Yaoteng reached out and patted the extremely handsome little boy in front of her.

This child is really good-looking, just like that child star, with thick eyebrows, big eyes, and a high nose bridge.

He just doesn't like to smile, and always has that sullen face. I don't know who he learned that from at such a young age.

Pei Yao didn't stop until she had ruffled Shen Cong's hair into a mess.

Shen Cong: Are you being polite?

Pei Yao: This child is so cute, much cuter than his cousin.

Shen Cong opened the door for them and let them in.

Just as Pei Yao came in, Aunt Qiao Hui also came out of the kitchen. Seeing the two of them, she greeted them warmly, "Yao'er, Yi Chen hasn't eaten yet, has he? Come and have some with us. I just cooked some kudzu root that my wet nurse took me to dig last time."

Ever since Yunniang led them to dig for kudzu, they all knew that kudzu could be eaten as a staple food, and they all went to the mountains to dig some themselves.

Pei Yao waved her hand and handed the pork intestines she was holding to Aunt Qiaohui.

"Auntie, this is the stir-fried pork intestines I made. It tastes pretty good. My mother asked me to bring you some."

After Pei Yao finished speaking, she placed the fatty intestines on the table.

Qiaohui felt a little embarrassed. The dish smelled of meat, and they probably didn't even have much of it at home, yet this girl brought them such a big bowl.

After all, none of them had any money on hand, and they ate seafood and wild vegetables every day.

This thing looks rare.

"Yao'er, take it back. Your family is large..."

When Pei Yao heard that she was going to refuse, she felt a headache coming on at the thought of arguing for a long time. She quickly continued, "Auntie, the snails and sea urchins you brought me today were a great help to our family. We only brought you this bowl of pork intestines, and we haven't even had a chance to thank you yet."

Qiaohui's eyes reddened upon hearing this: "Yao'er, between our two families, Yunniang and I have a long-standing friendship that transcends such matters."

"Yes, Auntie, don't worry about it, so please accept this bowl of braised pork intestines. It's not worth much."

Hearing her say that, Qiaohui didn't refuse anymore. She simply thanked her and invited Pei Yao and the other person to stay for a meal.

Pei Yao explained that she still needed to deliver something to the Liu family, and then took her leave.

When they arrived at the Liu family's house, they happened to run into Liu Yu, Chen Fang, and Xiao Xuan'er, who were carrying two buckets and chatting and laughing as they walked out of the door.

Pei Yichen immediately called out, "Mother."

When Chen Fang saw it was the two of them, she said, "What brings you two here?"

Pei Yichen raised the stir-fried pork intestines he was holding: "This is a dish my cousin cooked today, which I'm giving to my aunt and the others."

There will definitely be some commotion when the Liu family delivers the vegetables. Since Pei Yao doesn't want to go, she'll send Chen Fang and Pei Yichen instead. Chen Fang is sure to be better at handling things than she is.
