Chapter 144 Catching Razor Clams

Pei Yao led the two directly to the beach where she had previously discovered razor clams.

There aren't many scallops and sea urchins on this beach, so there's hardly anyone else around.

However, the place was full of razor clam holes, and a few villagers who liked to eat razor clams were digging there with small shovels.

Upon seeing Pei Yao arrive, he greeted Pei Yao warmly.

"Miss Pei, have you come to dig for razor clams too?"

Pei Yao put the things in her hands down.

Then, I took some salt and a small shovel and went to dig for razor clams. I replied with a grin, "Yeah, I found some here last time I came, so I came to dig some up to take home."

Aunt Li, remembering that Pei Yao was from the capital, was worried that she might not know how to dig for razor clams, so she asked, "Miss Pei, do you know how to dig for razor clams? Do you need me to teach you?"

Pei Yao shook her head after hearing this and smiled, "Aunt Li, no need, Aunt Fang taught me before."

Aunt Li didn't say much after hearing this, and continued digging for her razor clams.

Pei Yao placed Pei Xuan in a safe place and then took out the salt she had brought.

Pei Yicheng had no idea what Pei Yao was up to, so he just followed behind her with a small shovel.

Pei Yao led Pei Yichen to a place with many razor clam holes, and then used a small shovel to remove the surface sand. The sand was very soft, so the razor clam holes came out with a gentle shovel.

Pei Yao scooped up a spoonful of salt and poured it into the clam hole, then waited anxiously. Although Pei Yichen didn't know what Pei Yao was going to do, he couldn't help but feel nervous along with his older sister.

"Sister, should we wait for him to come out on his own..." Before Pei Yichen could finish speaking, a plump razor clam suddenly popped out of the clam hole where the salt had just been poured.

Pei Yao grabbed the razor clam that had sprung out.

Looking at the razor clams that were bigger than her hand, Pei Yao was in a good mood: "I didn't expect this method to actually work!"

"Sister, your method really works! It actually pops out by itself! How amazing!" Pei Yichen looked at the razor clams in Pei Yao's hand with great surprise.

Pei Yao was in a good mood, and looking at her cousin smugly, she said, "Of course, how could my method not work?"

However, before Pei Yao could gloat for long, Pei Yichen asked:

"But, sister, how did you know these methods?"

Pei Yao: "..."

Pei Yao was surprised that Pei Yichen had become smarter after reading for a while, and that he would actually ask her questions when he saw her catching razor clams.

She quickly came up with an excuse and said, "I saw Aunt Fang catching razor clams earlier. That's how she does it, and I learned it from her."

With Aunt Fang as a pretext, Pei Yichen immediately believed it and glanced at his older sister, saying, "Is that so?"

Pei Yao chuckled dryly twice: "Hehe, yeah."

Hearing the commotion from Pei Yao's side, Aunt Li, who was standing nearby, also came over out of curiosity.

Pei Yichen had just seen Pei Yao's method of catching razor clams, and now he also brought some salt over and followed Pei Yao's method, pouring salt into the razor clam holes.

He knocked down three holes at once.

After a while, the razor clams in the three holes popped out with a whooshing sound.

Pei Yichen was immediately very excited and picked up all the razor clams.

When Aunt Li saw Pei Yichen's method, she asked in confusion, "Yao girl, what kind of method is this? How come all these razor clams popped out by themselves?"

Pei Yao had only seen others teaching how to catch razor clams online, but he didn't actually know the underlying principles.

Pei Yichen casually said, "My older sister learned it from Aunt Fang."

Aunt Li was a little puzzled as to when Aunt Fang had learned this skill, but fortunately, Aunt Li's attention was not on this at the moment, but on how Pei Yao and the others were catching razor clams, so she did not ask any further questions.

Pei Yao didn't hide her method for catching razor clams and told Aunt Liu directly.

She also gave Aunt Liu a handful of salt. This salt was coarse salt that Pei Yao had boiled herself, but she hadn't had time to process it into fine salt because she was busy.

The villagers by the sea all boil their own salt, so when Aunt Liu saw Pei Yao take out the salt, she didn't say much and directly followed Pei Yao's method to catch razor clams.

A moment later, Aunt Liu's happy voice came from her side: "Yao girl, your method really works! I just poured in a little salt and several big razor clams came out. This is much faster than digging with a shovel."

Pei Yao smiled as she saw Aunt Liu's happy smile.

The two siblings caught razor clams for a while. There were many razor clams on this beach, and in no time, they had filled a small basket.

They figured they had enough for one meal tonight and another one tomorrow, so they stopped chasing after the fish.

Pei Yao continued walking around the beach, wondering if there was anything else, when suddenly she heard noises from villagers on the beach not far away.

"Everyone, stay away from this thing! If it stings someone, it can kill them!"

"Don't touch its whiskers with your hands, and you'll be fine."

"I haven't seen such a big jellyfish in a long time. It's enough for many meals, but the taste isn't very good."

Hearing the commotion over there, Pei Yao was somewhat confused, but driven by his gossipy nature, he and Pei Yichen hurriedly went over to see what was going on.

When the two of them arrived, several villagers were gathered around a transparent object, chattering amongst themselves.

Pei Yao leaned closer to take a look, but Niu Qingshan quickly stopped her, saying, "Sister Yao, you can't touch this thing. Its whiskers can sting people to death. Stay away from it."

Pei Yao glanced at the transparent object on the ground and examined it carefully. The object in front of her was none other than a jellyfish.

Pei Yao had only ever eaten processed jellyfish before, and this was the first time she had ever seen fresh jellyfish, so she was very curious.

The villagers were discussing how to divide the large jellyfish. Jellyfish often wash ashore on the beach, and because they are quite large, whoever finds one usually shares it with those around them.

The villagers of Liangshui Village don't particularly like eating jellyfish because it's hard to eat if not prepared properly, and even if it is prepared properly, it has no taste.

The reason everyone is gathered around this jellyfish is simply because it's quite large; it's just for the sake of having fun.

However, because jellyfish have poisonous tentacles, even dead jellyfish are still poisonous, people are generally quite cautious about them.

Uncle Niu is an old man in the village and has some experience in dealing with jellyfish.

Uncle Niu Er took a small knife and quickly cut off the jellyfish head with tentacles, leaving only the umbrella-like part of the jellyfish.

Uncle Niu looked at the crowd of onlookers, raised his head and asked, "Does anyone want it? If so, I'll give you a piece. It's so big, I can't finish it even if I take it home."
