Just when he was feeling desperate, a slender, white hand reached out to him, pulled him up, and hid him behind a big tree.
The pursuers caught up and saw a little girl here, carrying a basket on her back and a lot of herbs in her pocket.
"Did you see a man run past here?" The leader asked with a fierce look.
The little girl pretended to be scared and said, "I saw it! It ran that way. It startled me. I thought I had encountered a wild man."
When the leader heard him mention the savage, he knew he was right; it was the person they were chasing.
"Where did they run off to?"
"Oh. Over there." He then pointed in a direction.
"Sure?"
"Brother, why would I lie to you?"
The leader sized her up suspiciously, his eyes scanning the basket on her back and the surroundings. "If you dare to lie to us, you'll be in big trouble!"
The little girl glared at me and said, "Why would I lie to you? What good would it do me?"
The pursuers exchanged glances and were about to leave when suddenly one of them shouted, "Look at those footprints! They're clearly coming this way!" Hearing this, the crowd gathered around again.
Ye Boxuan's heart was in his throat, but the little girl remained calm and pointed in that direction, saying, "I saw him stop here for a moment and then run away. If you don't chase after him, he'll disappear without a trace."
The pursuers hesitated for a moment, but ultimately followed in the direction the girl pointed.
Once the others had gone some distance, she whispered to Ye Boxuan behind the tree, "Come out, they're gone."
