Time flew by, and soon night fell. Xiao Qianqian and Shanshan came downstairs and, seeing the four people gathered around the chess table, couldn't help but tease, "Aren't you guys hungry? Can playing chess fill your stomachs?"
Mrs. Xiao looked up at the wall clock; it was already 7 p.m. "Oh dear, is it that late? Alright, alright, one last game. Let's go out for dinner."
The game was still at a stalemate. Mr. Xiao's thick eyebrows were furrowed. He placed a piece in one place, but it didn't feel right. He picked it up again, then placed it in another place, but it still didn't feel right. Just as Mr. Xiao was hesitating to make a move, Ye Bosen suddenly shouted, "Checkmate!" Mr. Xiao looked closely and realized that he had no way to move.
"Oh dear! I lost again!" Mr. Xiao pushed the chess piece away with a look of frustration.
"Alright, alright, a bet's a bet. Hurry up and get ready, let's go out for dinner," Mrs. Xiao said with a smile.
After the family finished getting ready, they headed to the restaurant. Along the way, they chatted and laughed, enjoying themselves immensely.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, the waiter warmly led them to their reserved private room. As soon as they sat down, Xiao Qianqian eagerly asked, "What delicious food are we having today?"
"Of course, it's your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs!" Xiao's mother looked at her daughter with doting eyes.
"And there's your favorite roast chicken." Ye Bosen, who was standing next to her, patted her head gently.
"Great! I haven't had this in ages!" Xiao Qianqian clapped her hands happily.
As the food was served, everyone enjoyed the meal and shared anecdotes from their lives. Ye Bosen listened quietly, occasionally interjecting a few words, a smile always on his face. He secretly felt fortunate to be a part of this warm family.
