Shi Chan's face was extremely grim; there was no way to avoid the murderous intent coming from all directions. After pondering for a moment, he suddenly raised his Seven Treasures Kasaya and hugged Liuli tightly in his arms. He then turned around and flew towards the passage in the northwest, facing the numerous black beads that were shooting towards him.
Shi Chan quickly collided with the black beads. On the surface, among the various demonic fires and hidden weapons from the eight directions, only these black beads seemed the weakest. However, it wasn't until the beads rained down on Shi Chan that he suddenly felt a pang of regret. Not only did the beads cause excruciating pain upon impact, but they also exploded violently upon contact with his skin, sending shivers of electric shock through his body.
As Shi Chan chanted Buddhist mantras amidst the overwhelming onslaught of black beads, his Chan Pure Beads flashed with golden light, transforming into a golden wheel taller than half a person. This golden wheel blocked most of the black beads as it spun, but many still managed to slip through and strike him. Although the Seven Treasures Kasaya offered superior defense, it couldn't protect Shi Chan's legs, which were particularly vulnerable. The black beads struck his legs and exploded, causing his recently healed wounds to reopen and bleed profusely.
Shi Chan gritted his teeth and suppressed all his cries of pain. After a while, he finally rushed out of the many black beads while holding Liuli. By then, a long passage was already halfway through. As soon as Shi Chan landed, his legs went weak and he collapsed to the ground.
Liuli was tightly wrapped in Shichan's seven-jeweled kasaya, so she was not injured at all. She only felt a darkness before her eyes, and then her body was lifted into the air. When she landed again, she heard Shichan groan, and she fell to the ground with him.
Ignoring the pain from the fall, Liuli scrambled to her feet and squatted down beside Shichan, anxiously asking, "Little monk, are you alright?"
Shi Chan felt his legs go numb and almost completely lost. He frowned, but managed a slight smile, and whispered, "This humble monk... is alright..."
Liuli hesitated before turning to look at Shichan's legs. His legs were charred and mangled, a truly gruesome sight. Her body trembled involuntarily, her eyes instantly reddening, and tears streamed down her face.
"Little...little monk..." Liuli choked out, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry...little monk, it's all my fault. If you hadn't saved me so many times, I wouldn't be...I wouldn't be so badly injured...Waaah...It's all my fault..."
In the end, Liuli burst into tears. She was heartbroken and remorseful. She held Shichan's hand tightly and cried uncontrollably, her tears streaming down her face and falling onto Shichan's hand.
Shi Chan gathered all the remaining Buddhist power in his body into the meridians of his legs, slightly repairing the injury. He struggled to sit up, gently wiped away the tears on Liuli's face, and said softly with a smile, "Don't cry, young lady... please stop crying, this humble monk is really alright."
Liuli opened her blurry, tear-filled eyes and looked at Shichan. Through the blur, she saw his gentle face. She stopped crying slightly and hurriedly took out a medicine bottle from her bosom. She choked out, "Little monk, please take one of these pills... Here, take one and you'll be fine."
Shi Chan smiled and shook his head, saying, "Miss, you've forgotten, this humble monk cannot take this pill."
"Eat it!" Liuli said anxiously. She poured out a pill and handed it to Shichan, saying hurriedly, "Silly monk, didn't you just eat one? Are you afraid of eating another one now?"
"Just now..." Shi Chan stopped abruptly after saying only two words, his cheeks flushing. After a moment, he shook his head firmly and said, "This humble monk will not take this pill. Don't worry, young lady, this humble monk will not die."
Liuli frowned. She was about to use the same trick again, taking the pill herself and then feeding it to Shichan, when a steady voice suddenly came from around the corner of the passage, calling out, "Shichan!"
Shi Chan and Liu Li turned to look at the source of the voice, only to see an old monk walking slowly with his hands clasped together. He had a kind smile on his lips. When he saw Liu Li, he paused for a moment and hesitated, saying, "Eh, how come this young lady is in this demonic formation?"
Upon seeing the old monk, Shi Chan was overwhelmed with emotion. He forced himself to stand up, clasped his hands together, and respectfully greeted him, "Master."
Liuli put away the pills, stood up, and helped Shichan up, looking curiously at the old monk who was slowly walking towards them.
Shi Chan quietly took a step away from Liuli's support and forced himself to stand up despite the pain.
Liuli paused for a moment, then turned to look at Shichan and called out in confusion, "Little monk?"
Shi Chan did not look at Liuli, but said gently, "Thank you for your kindness, young lady, but I can stand on my own."
Shi Chan's sudden aloofness left Liuli somewhat bewildered. Just then, the old monk approached, clasped his hands in a Buddhist gesture of respect, and asked in a gentle voice, "Young lady, you should just be an ordinary person, how did you get caught up in this demonic formation?"
Liuli stared blankly at Shichan for a moment, her mind racing. She quickly realized why Shichan was being distant. After thinking for a while, she lowered her head and said timidly, "I... I wandered in here by mistake. Luckily, I met Master Shichan. He protected me the whole time, but he himself was seriously injured. I feel so bad about it..."
"Amitabha, Buddha is merciful." Shi Chan lowered his eyes and said, "You are too kind, young lady. Since I have met you in the formation, I should risk my life to protect you."
The old monk nodded approvingly and said, "Shi Chan, you did the right thing."
The old monk looked Shi Chan up and down for a moment, then reached out and touched his brow. Pure Buddhist power flowed into his body and gathered in his leg meridians to repair his meridians and wounds.
Soon, Shi Chan's legs had healed. The old monk withdrew his hand, turned around and said, "Let's go, this humble monk will lead you out of the demonic formation."
"Yes," Shi Chan nodded and replied, "Thank you, Master."
