Chapter 16 Monks of Bodhi Temple

And so, a group of a dozen or so men in black walked ahead, navigating the forest with practiced ease. Liuli followed far behind them, a little puzzled. How could they know the way so well? Other humans would surely get lost if they were new to this forest, but they didn't.

She didn't delve into the matter further, but walked on listlessly, feeling quite resentful towards her grandmother for not agreeing to their request.

The group wandered through the forest for quite some time when Liuli, who had been feeling listless, suddenly heard shouts coming from ahead. Startled, she looked up and saw that more than a dozen young monks had appeared in the forest and were surrounding Li Molin and the others, shouting something at them.

Seeing that there was a good show to watch, Liuli immediately perked up. In a flash of white light, she disappeared and silently flew to a large tree where the monk and Li Molin were gathered. She hid among the lush branches and watched with great interest.

She thought she had gone unnoticed, but Li Molin looked up in her direction with a smile in his eyes. Two of the dozen or so young monks also looked up in confusion. One of them, an older monk in his thirties, seemed to be the leader. He held a staff in his hand, and the many copper rings at the top of the staff jingled in the wind.

Another person who noticed Liuli was a monk in his early twenties. He was thin but extremely tall, and his gray monk's robe was very clean, swaying on his body and emphasizing his slender frame. Perhaps due to his extreme thinness, the monk's eyes appeared exceptionally large, a pair of clear, bright black eyes like a calm lake. Although young, there was a sense of wisdom and experience in his eyes. He stood there quietly, his aura calm and peaceful, his hands clasped together in front of his chest, a string of prayer beads hanging from his fingers.

Liuli noticed the monk from her vantage point and felt that his eyes were very familiar, but she couldn't remember when she had seen him before. She lowered her eyes and fell into deep thought.

At this moment, the monk in his thirties approached the younger monk and asked in a low voice, "Brother Shichan, did you also feel it?"

Shi Chan nodded and replied in a low voice, "Yes, Senior Brother Shi Ning, I sensed demonic energy, but I couldn't see any demonic figures."

Shi Ning's eyes showed admiration as he said, "No wonder Master said that you, Junior Brother, have the greatest potential. That monster deliberately concealed its aura, yet you, Junior Brother, with only the cultivation of the late Foundation Establishment stage, were able to see through that hidden demonic energy. You are truly remarkable."

At that moment, a young monk standing nearby shouted, "...You demonic sorcerers have harmed the people of the Central Plains with vicious and outrageous methods! Today, none of you will escape. We, the monks of Bodhi Temple, will surely seek justice for the people and make you pay for your blood debt!"

Li Molin sneered and said in a cold voice, "You annoying flies have chased us all this way, it's really annoying! Listen up, fellow demon generals, today we are going to unleash a massacre and leave no one alive!"

"Yes!" The dozen or so demons roared, their faces contorted with rage.

Shi Ning turned to look at the monk, only to see his face contorted with anger, his cheeks flushed red, and his eyes glaring fiercely. He had completely lost any semblance of the serene demeanor expected of a monk. He sighed softly and said in a low voice, "I often hear Master say that Junior Brother Shi Fan is easily angered, and sometimes even a bit extreme..."

Shi Chan chanted a Buddhist prayer in a low voice and said softly, "Brother Shi Fan is just jealous of demons. Besides, aren't there wrathful Vajras in Buddhism too?"

Shi Ning clasped his hands together and sighed, "As long as Junior Brother Shi Fan doesn't fall into fanaticism, that's fine..."

Seeing that a dozen or so monks were already fighting with the demon, he whispered, "Brother Shichan is coming down the mountain for the first time and has no experience fighting others. Just protect yourself."

Shi Chan nodded and replied, "Yes, Senior Brother Shi Ning."

"Amitabha!" Shi Ningxuan chanted a Buddhist prayer, and proclaimed, "Disciples of Bodhi Temple shall vanquish demons, uphold the righteous path, and protect the Central Plains!"

"Yes!" The dozen or so monks who were fighting the demons responded in unison, their movements becoming even more swift and their golden Buddhist light shining even brighter.
