Liuli took a step forward, grabbed Shichan's hand which was suspended in mid-air, and held it tightly with both hands. She said in a wronged tone, "Little monk, please don't do this. You can't ignore me..."
Her small hands were a little cold, and when she held his hand, the cool sensation traveled straight to her heart. Shi Chan pursed his lips, hardened his heart, and forcefully pulled his hand away from hers. He took a step back, clasped his hands together, and bowed, saying, "...Please grant this humble monk your wish, young lady."
"Waaah..." Liuli's sobs grew louder, and she cried even more sadly. She wiped away her tears haphazardly and looked pitifully at Shichan through her blurry, tearful eyes, hoping that Shichan would soften his heart when he saw her tears and take back his heartless words.
Liuli was cheerful and lively. Growing up, she had always been pampered and protected by Yingmo. After coming to the Central Plains, Li Molin indulged her and let her run wild. She had never suffered the slightest grievance. So, apart from the time Bailing disappeared, she had never been so sad.
Seeing Liuli heartbroken, Shi Chan felt a mix of emotions. Amidst those complex feelings, he clearly discerned a hint of heartache. He felt sorry for her and didn't want her to be sad, but... he simply couldn't reciprocate her love. Perhaps it would be better to end her hopes early.
"I'm so sorry, young lady." With that thought, Shi Chan hurriedly finished speaking and turned to leave.
"Little monk!" Liuli called out, her voice choked with emotion.
Shi Chan paused, but did not turn around.
Liuli wiped away her tears, took a few steps forward to Shichan's side, held out a small flag to him, and said in a choked voice, "Little monk, this is for you."
Shi Chan glanced at the small flag, shook his head, and was about to speak when Liu Li quickly interrupted him, saying, "This is the Bright Eyes Flag. If you hold this small flag, you can see things in this magic array... Here you go, little monk."
Shi Chan turned his head and saw that Liuli's tear-streaked face held a cautious expectation, as if as long as he accepted this small task, they could still chat and laugh as before without any grudges.
Shi Chan remained silent for a while before saying in a low voice, "Thank you for your kindness, young lady, but I cannot accept anything from the demon race. I apologize."
Having said that, he didn't linger and walked step by step into the mist. But as he walked forward, he heard the heartbreaking cries behind him, and his face grew paler and paler, the grayness in his eyes deepening, obscuring his usual wise and composed gaze.
The little flag fluttered to the ground. Liuli squatted down, hugged her knees, pressed her forehead against them, and began to sob.
--
Liu Lingying held Li Molin in her arms for a long time before slowly letting go of him. She grasped his hands, which were hanging by his sides, and looked up at him earnestly, saying, "Lin'er, come with your mother, okay? Your mother will take you back to the mountain and teach you Taoist magic..."
With a sullen face, Li Molin pulled his hand away from Liu Lingying's grasp, took a step back, and looked at her coldly.
Li Molin's actions caused Liu Lingying to choke on her words. She looked at him with a sorrowful expression, her voice pleading, "Lin'er, you can't continue cultivating demonic arts, you can't..."
"Enough!" Li Molin coldly interrupted her, a faint smile playing on his lips, his eyes icy as he said in a deep voice, "When I was seven, you abandoned me. Now, twenty years have passed, and you say you want me to go with you? That's utterly ridiculous."
"I didn't..." Liu Lingying blurted out, urgently explaining, "Lin'er, I didn't abandon you, I just..."
At this point, Liu Lingying suddenly stopped, her lips opening and closing but unable to utter a word.
Li Molin watched Liu Lingying silently, waiting for her to continue, but after a long time, she couldn't say anything. Li Molin smiled coldly, his eyes filled with complex emotions, and said in a low voice, "More than twenty years ago, you left without a word, abandoning me and my father. Over the years, I've always wondered how you could be so heartless. After you left, I saw my father cry. That was the only time I ever saw him shed tears, the only time."
Upon hearing this, Liu Lingying trembled involuntarily.
"Lin'er..." Tears welled up again as Liu Lingying called out softly, but then fell silent and couldn't continue.
After waiting a while, Li Molin gave a cold laugh. Just as he was about to speak, he heard a voice behind him say in a somewhat panicked tone, "Young Master, something has happened to Miss Liuli!"
Li Molin's expression changed. He quickly turned around and asked anxiously, "What's wrong with Liuli?"
Ji Jue flew over quickly and landed in front of Li Molin. He scratched his head and frowned, saying, "I just encountered Miss Liuli in the formation. I saw her squatting on the ground crying sadly. I asked her a few questions, but she didn't answer. She's still crying now. Young Master, please go and see her quickly."
"Lead the way!" Li Molin said coldly. Ji Jue immediately turned around and flew back the way he came. Li Molin followed without saying a word.
"Lin'er!" Liu Lingying watched as Li Molin disappeared into the mist in an instant, and she hurriedly chased after him.
But at this moment, two demons of the Demon Heart level rushed out from the mist and attacked Liu Lingying from the front and back.
Left with no other choice, Liu Lingying stopped and engaged the two demons in battle.
Ji Jue and Li Molin arrived at Liu Li's place shortly afterward. At that time, Liu Li was still crying uncontrollably, her cries so sorrowful that they made one feel extremely sad.
Li Molin frowned deeply. He knelt down in front of Liuli, gently placed his hand on her shoulder, and asked softly, "Liuli, what's wrong?"
