"Alright." Liuli smiled, glanced at him, then turned back, and said with a sly smile, "If I said I wanted to marry you, would you marry me?"
Shi Chan paused for a moment, a hint of embarrassment still visible on his face, but he honestly replied, "I will marry you."
Liuli didn't look at Shichan. The smile on her face deepened, overflowing with joy. However, in order to punish Shichan for rejecting her several times, Liuli didn't want to let him get away with it so easily. She raised her face and pondered for a moment, her voice filled with laughter, and said, "Then let's see how you perform. If you perform well, I will marry you."
Shi Chan vaguely understood that Liu Li's words were somewhat deliberately making things difficult for him. He shook his head, smiled helplessly, and replied gently, "Alright, then I'll do my best."
The town mayor, watching them flirt, realized they were probably a couple. He looked up at Shi Chan's bald head again and asked with a smile, "So, young master, you've just returned to secular life?"
Shi Chan smiled and replied, "Yes."
The town mayor nodded and casually asked as he walked forward, "I haven't asked your names yet?"
Liuli, who was walking at the front, turned around and replied in a crisp voice, "My name is Liuli!"
Shi Chan then spoke, saying quite naturally, "Just call me Shi Chan, sir."
After a moment's thought, the town mayor asked with a smile, "Shi Chanding is your Dharma name, right? Since you've returned to secular life, why didn't you choose a lay name?"
Shi Chan was taken aback; he really hadn't thought of these things.
While he was still in a daze, he heard Liuli say with a smile, "Mayor, let's call him Bailing. That was his name before he became a monk."
Shi Chan snapped out of his reverie, looked up, and saw Liu Li's smiling face. His heart warmed, and he nodded with a smile.
“Lark…” the town mayor nodded and smiled, “What a lovely name, as cheerful as a lark.”
Liuli turned to look ahead. Shichan didn't see her expression, but heard her say smugly, "Of course, I named her."
Shi Chan's lips curved slightly, his smile gentle.
They soon entered the town. Liuli turned her head and looked around at the houses along the path. She found that although they were different from those a hundred years ago, there were no major differences. There were still rows of wooden houses on both sides of the path. The courtyards of the wooden houses were all surrounded by wooden fences. The courtyards were kept clean and tidy, and every family still had a Buddha statue under the eaves that were sheltered from the wind and rain.
After looking around for a while, Liuli turned to the town mayor and asked, "Mayor, is the Holy Monk Temple still there?"
Shi Chan then turned to look at the town mayor, who also had the same question.
"Yes, of course it's still here." The town mayor laughed. "Would you two like to offer incense? This old man will take you there now."
“Okay.” Liuli’s gaze warmed as she thought of the stone statue of Monk Jiawu in the Holy Monk Temple, and she said softly, “Thank you.”
The mayor smiled and waved his hand, then walked in front of Liuli and led her and Shichan to the end of the path, where they turned a corner. The only brick house could now be seen ahead.
Shi Chan took two steps forward and walked alongside Liuli. He turned to look at Liuli and asked gently, "Liuli, how do you know about the Holy Monk Temple? When did you come to this town?"
After a moment of contemplation, Liuli replied, "Many years ago, it seems to be... when we had just escaped from the Devouring Demon Palace. It happened to be the Qixi Festival, and Li Molin and I came here."
Shi Chan lowered his eyes and pondered for a while, then asked in confusion, "The day I came was also the Qixi Festival, so why didn't I meet you?"
"Really?" Liuli turned to look at him and said, "We left on the morning of Qixi Festival. What about you?"
Shi Chan suddenly realized, "No wonder, I arrived in the afternoon, we must have missed it."
"Oh." Liuli nodded in response, and when she looked up, she saw that they had already arrived in front of the Holy Monk Temple, and the town mayor had already opened the temple door and gone inside.
