Chapter 72: Eat the food and be grateful
Lu Xiang and Fu Qinhui returned to the room. Lu Xiang said, "Thank you very much."
Fu Qinhui looked at Lu Xiang and said, "You and I are family. No need to thank me."
Lu Xiang hummed.
There was an ambiguous atmosphere in the room. Lu Xiang looked up at Fu Qinhui and saw that he was still very upright. She thought she was wrong.
It was not time to go to bed yet, so they couldn't stay in the room all the time.
Lu Xiang breathed a sigh of relief after she left the room and entered the yard. Her heart was pounding and her cheeks were a little hot.
She went into the small kitchen without thinking too much. It was her turn to cook tomorrow. She soaked all the brown rice in water and made porridge tomorrow.
Lu Xiang harvested the cabbages from the field.
Mrs. Fu saw her busy and followed her into the kitchen. "Will we have cabbage tomorrow?" They had already had enough cabbage. But they were confident in Lu Xiang's cooking skills. Even if Lu Xiang cooked cabbage, it would taste better than anyone else's.
Lu Xiang said, "Let's make dumplings tomorrow!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw surprise in Fu Sansao's eyes: "Why are you making dumplings when it's not a festival?" Although she said this, she agreed with her action in her heart.
Making dumplings is the most laborious part, requiring both kneading the dough and mixing the filling. To save time, when Fu Sansao was cooking, she would just stew a vegetable, wrap a circle of pancakes around it, and cook the whole thing in one pot. She didn't do anything laborious.
Lu Xiang said, "Tomorrow I'm going to make something with spicy cabbage and vermicelli instead of meat." She cleaned the kitchen every day. In the corner, she found some broken vermicelli that had been there since who knows when!
I asked my mother-in-law, but she had long forgotten when she bought it and told Lu Xiang to make whatever she wanted. The vermicelli noodles were too broken, so I planned to use them for dumplings.
Lu Xiang soaked the vermicelli early.
Mrs. Fu had never heard of this filling, but her mouth was watering for some reason.
I wanted to help Lu Xiang, but she was so quick that I didn't even have to lift a hand. I cut the cabbage into two pieces, sprinkled salt on it, and placed a large stone on top.
Mrs. Fu said, "Our family is not lucky enough to marry you. Now your third brother is looking forward to the day when you can be a chef."
Lu Xiang's cooking was practically famous in the Fu family. Even a simple stir-fry she made was ten times more delicious than theirs.
Lu Xiang cooked every four days. The whole family was happy, as it was a festive occasion. However, Xiao Cailian was a little unhappy and secretly told her daughters-in-law that she didn't want Lu Xiang to cook anymore.
When she cooks, the food is eaten quickly, and the whole family has a good appetite when she is in the kitchen.
The daughter-in-law couldn't say anything about her mother-in-law's words. After she went back and told her husband, her sons all went to find Xiao Cailian. They said that they had a lot of work to do in the fields and were tired. If they didn't like the food on weekdays, they would wait for Lu Xiang to be the cook to make up for it.
They would not accept it if they were deprived of even this little bit of happiness.
Mrs. Fu said this as a joke, and even repeated her mother-in-law's original words to Lu Xiang: If Lu Xiang wasn't there, you wouldn't have eaten. A bad habit?
Several brothers of the Fu family argued that they could make duck necks now that the family had money and there would be no waste if they ate or drank it, so why not?
The people of the Fu family are filial. Xiao Cailian usually has the final say, but she will not give in when it comes to Lu Xiang's cooking.
Mrs. Fu watched Lu Xiang cook and couldn't help but admire her. The Fu family cooked just enough to get by. Only Lu Xiang had the leisure to come up with new ways to make delicious food for them.
For example, they absolutely refused to make dumplings. With so many people, how many would they have to make?
It is said that one who eats from someone else's family will be grateful for what he has done. A new bride will face some difficulties when she enters the family, but in the Fu family, no one makes things difficult for Lu Xiang, and they are busy coaxing her.
They were just looking forward to Lu Xiang making delicious food for them to improve their lives.
Lu Xiang has a great relationship with her family. No matter who she is, outsiders always give her compliments. Now Lu Xiang's presence in the village is growing!
Everyone was envious and several aunts regretted their decision. They had disliked Lu Xiang because she was too thin to work, so they passed her up when selecting a daughter-in-law, letting the Fu family get away with it.
The Fu family was also bad. In this era, people didn't eat greasy food. As long as Lu Xiang made something delicious, they would start to envy others.
The villagers were annoyed by their showing off and wanted to know what delicious food Lu Xiang had made.
The Fu family members talked about it so much that the villagers began to suggest to the village chief that Lu Xiang be the head chef for the big pot meals. But the village chief rejected it! The village was not well-off, so why would they cook such delicious meals?
Lu Xiang was also happy to hear them say this and said, "If you like it, I'll make some more tomorrow."
"Oh." Mrs. Fu San was overjoyed. She was a big mouth and couldn't hide anything. Lu Xiang was going to cook tomorrow. She went out for a walk and half of the village knew that Lu Xiang was going to make dumplings for them tomorrow.
But the people in the village were very envious of him.
"Young people really know how to eat!"
"That's what you said. Who wouldn't eat something delicious? We can't bear to part with the noodles and meat."
"I'm craving dumplings too. I haven't eaten them for half a year."
"Be greedy, what's the price of white flour now? It's almost 50 cents a pound."
The aunts who were talking were talking, but the others hadn't eaten dumplings yet, and they were drooling just by hearing these two words.
"Fu Qinhui is so lucky!" The men in the village grumbled. Lu Xiangren was beautiful and had such skills. God must be too partial to her!
Mrs. Fu was even happier when she heard people praising Lu Xiang. After walking around for a while, she suddenly saw someone in the distance and said, "Oh, isn't that Lin Xin?"
Everyone looked over and said, "Why is he back?"
Lin Xin was Aunt Lu's younger brother. He was detained for several years for fighting. After being released from prison, he moved to another place. Later, I heard that he made some money.
The villagers didn't like him. He was a vicious person and didn't fear death when he beat people up. Others would just beat them up to vent their anger, but he fought with everyone as if he was risking his life!
Someone pulled Mrs. Fu San aside and said, "You might not know, but he came back because of Lu Zhaodi's matter. He just went to the Lu family's old house and beat up his sister and brother-in-law."
Everyone knew that Lin Xin had a crush on Lu Zhaodi. It was said that when he was a rebellious man, Lu Zhaodi was close to him. Every year when Lin Xin went out, he would send her something: sometimes powdered milk, sometimes malted milk, sometimes floral dresses, sometimes small leather shoes.
When Lu Zhaodi got lost in the village, it didn't cause any commotion. Everyone thought she had gone to live with her uncle. Now Lin Xin came back in a rage, even beating up his sister and brother-in-law, looking like he was looking for trouble.
Mrs. Fu's face changed: "Isn't it going to cause trouble for our Lu Xiang? I have to go back and remind her."
Actually, Lu Xiang hadn't done anything to offend Lu Zhaodi. But Lin Xin was too dangerous. His thinking was different from others. What if he caused trouble? She had to be on guard.
