The couple's regret was that they didn't have a daughter. It wasn't that Jiang Yu didn't want one, but that Yan Pingshun didn't dare to have one.
When Jiang Yu gave birth to Yan Nian, her pregnancy went smoothly throughout, but at the last moment she just couldn't give birth. Yan Pingshun stayed by her side the whole time. She was in labor for a full day and night. The wailing sound scared Yan Pingshun so much that he didn't sleep well for more than a month. Every time he woke up, he would check if his wife was still there.
After a month of confinement, Jiang Yu gained two pounds, while Yan Pingshun lost more than ten pounds, and his cheeks became sunken.
While at the postpartum care center, Jiang Yu saw other families holding little girls and casually remarked that she wanted to have a girl herself. This startled Yan Pingshun so much that he booked a tubal ligation procedure for himself the next day, thus ending Jiang Yu's idea.
Ultimately, the family of three moving in was inextricably linked to Xiao Tangwan. The two, who were originally still considering it, hit it off immediately after chatting with Xiao Tangwan, signed the contract, and bought the villa in full.
As soon as they moved in, they immediately sent their son with the gifts they had bought beforehand to the little girl, thinking that since their son was so popular at kindergarten, they might be able to win her over... no, invite her to their home as a guest.
Unexpectedly, even after stepping inside, I was still rejected by the young girl.
It's rare to see her son get the short end of the stick, so Jiang Yu, as his mother, naturally laughed at him!
After learning what had happened, Yan Pingshun squatted down to be at eye level with Yan Nian and patted his head.
"You were in the wrong. You shouldn't have spoken with prejudice. Pack your things first, then eat. You need to apologize properly tomorrow, understand?"
"That's right, and we'll invite the little girl over to play while we're at it. Dad will cook her something delicious."
Yan Pingshun looked at his wife, who seemed used to it, and did not refute Jiang Yu's words. He just affectionately patted her head.
Yan Nian nodded, and the next day he went to the Tang family again with gifts.
This time, he sat down in the Tang family's living room without any trouble. He looked around but didn't move, instead sitting obediently on the sofa waiting for the host to come downstairs.
"Miss, a friend has come to see you."
"Friends? What friends do I have?"
Despite saying that, Tang Wan still closed the book and went downstairs.
"What, are you here to complain?"
When Tang Wan saw Yan Nian, she thought he was just like the other kids in the old alley, who would ask their parents to come and complain if they couldn't bully others, as if having someone back them up was something amazing.
Tang Wan looked disdainful, her delicate face appearing arrogant.
"No, I brought you a gift. I'm sorry about yesterday, but I didn't mean it that way. I just want to be friends with you."
Yan Nian was not angry because of Tang Wan's attitude. Instead, he stood up and apologized to her sincerely, and handed her the gift with both hands.
Xiao Tangwan was stunned. As far as she could remember, this was the first time she had ever received a gift.
"Hmph, you think you can bribe me with such a small thing?" Despite saying this, Tang Wan still accepted the gift with a guilty conscience.
"My mom bought this. She wants me to invite you to my house for dinner. Of course, I'd like to invite you too, is that alright?"
Seeing that Tang Wan accepted it, Xiao Yan Nian breathed a sigh of relief. He looked at Tang Wan with bright eyes, making it hard to refuse.
“We just moved here from another city. Would you like to come to my house? I have lots of toys, and we can play together.”
Tang Wan was a little flustered when she was invited to someone's home for the first time, but she didn't want anyone to notice.
She kept a straight face, looking completely indifferent.
But Yan Nian didn't care about any of that, like a happy little dog, as if you could still see his tail wagging wildly behind him.
Tang Wan went over anyway. She sat in Yan Nian's house. Although the layout was the same, the style was completely different.
The Tang family home is cold and impersonal, while Yan Nian's home is filled with everyday photos.
She saw Jiang Yu pat Yan Nian's head and say something like "Well done," and she also heard the sounds of Yan's father busy in the kitchen, seemingly cutting fruit.
This is a scene that would never happen in the Tang family. No matter how many houses they moved to, their home was always cold and quiet. The only time there was any sound was probably when she and Tang Qi were arguing.
Most of the time, her parents wouldn't come home until the middle of the night. Even though they lived under the same roof, it was common for them to go ten days or half a month without seeing each other. Tang Qi would often go out, and although he would occasionally bring her some candy or snacks, it couldn't hide the fact that she was often home alone.
Because she was always alone, the neighbor's kids would gang up on her and bully her. She wouldn't back down; they would bite or pull her. In short, she didn't get the better end of the fight, and neither did the other side.
Every time those kids lost a fight, they would bring their parents to her door to complain, while the kids would hide behind their parents, looking at her smugly and making faces at her.
In situations like this, she wouldn't even need to lift a finger. Tang Qi wouldn't care whether the other person's parents were present or not; she'd just step forward and slap them across the face. Sometimes, getting into fights with those parents was a common occurrence. She called it: disciplining their children for them.
Later, they both learned their lesson and started to tormenting them with the smallest things, sometimes by breaking their windows, sometimes by catching bugs and throwing them at the children...
Over time, the children in the alley will become afraid, and their parents will stop visiting them, instead warning their children not to play with them anymore.
But who wants to play with them? If this counts as playing, they have plenty of other ways to play!
Although she is only five years old, she is much more mature than her peers. This is why she always acts like a little adult, because most of the time, she can only rely on herself.
