The next morning, Qin Yi knocked on Meng Wan's door. Meng Wan answered and drew back the curtains, letting sunlight stream into the room.
There's a new photo frame on the desk; it's the same photo from yesterday.
Before I knew it, more and more photos were hanging on the wall. There were photos of the Yan couple, photos of Chen Xiong, group photos of the Meng family, photos of Zhiyao and Tang Li...
It turns out that so many things have happened in the past six months.
"Wanwan, are you feeling better?"
"Okay, I'm here." Meng Wan put on her coat, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked out of the room.
"Why are you dressed so lightly? Where's your scarf? Go put it on quickly, or you'll catch a cold!" Meng Wan had just come out when Qin Yi pushed her back inside.
Helpless, Meng Wan still found a scarf to wrap around her neck. As soon as she came out, she saw Yan Nian, who was also walking out with a scarf, looking equally helpless.
Before the two could speak, Qin Yi beckoned them over.
There were many things on the dining table.
"Mom, what are all these for?"
"Please clean up with these tissues and wet wipes when you arrive. I've also put bottled water in here." Qin Yi put each item into the large bag after introducing it.
"Make sure to clean every nook and cranny, okay?"
The two nodded obediently.
"These are pastries. Arrange them like this so your parents can have a taste too." As she spoke, she carefully plated the pastries.
"And also, these are the two prettiest bunches I picked out at the market this morning. Just leave them there when you get there, okay?"
Yan Nian nodded as he watched Qin Yi intently taking inventory of the items.
"Thank you, Auntie."
"What's the big deal? Go early and come back early. I'll make you your favorite dishes for lunch." Qin Yi patted Yan Nian's arm. She spoke softly, with the gentle charm of a woman from Jiangnan.
Unlike Jiang Yu's straightforwardness and frankness, Qin Yi is more like a spring breeze, silently nourishing everyone.
She has a very strong core, a trait that Meng Wan inherited from her, even though in their previous lives they were just strangers with blood ties.
She also came from a scholarly family and had a smooth life in the first half of her life. After going bankrupt, her first reaction was not to complain or blame others, but to constantly encourage her family and do what she could.
Her aura was very gentle. Even a mischievous and active child like Tang Li would unconsciously become well-behaved and obedient when he was around Qin Yi.
After Qin Yi's repeated instructions, the two finally went out. Yan Nian carried a large bag, while Meng Wan held flowers.
Following Qin Yi's instructions, the two first divided the work and cleaned the cemetery, then arranged the flowers, and finally plated the pastries and fruits.
In previous years, they would just leave a bouquet of flowers and that would be it; this was the first time someone had said these things to them.
"Mom and Dad, Happy New Year! Wanwan and I have come to visit you." The two bowed towards the tombstone.
The cemetery was empty, except for the two of them. Yan Nian took out a newspaper and spread it on the ground. The two of them didn't stand on ceremony and sat down.
He held Meng Wan's hand, unconsciously playing with her fingers.
"With Mom by your side this year, you shouldn't be lonely, right?"
"Don't worry, I'm living a good life. I've received a lot of care, and my parents even gave me lucky money. This year, we also went to have New Year's Eve dinner with Grandpa Chen. He seemed quite happy, and we'll visit him often in the future. Although you're enjoying yourselves as a couple, don't just focus on your own happiness. Come and talk to me in my dreams sometimes too."
Yan Nian rambled on about everyday trivia, and when he finished the last sentence, he let out a soft sigh, and the smile on his face became somewhat forced. He pulled down the hood of his sweatshirt, which was sticking back, to cover his slightly red eyes and sore nose.
Meng Wan remained silent, letting Yan Nian hook his finger around hers and ramble on with childish talk. Only in moments like this could he not be President Yan.
As they were talking, a light snow began to fall. Qin Yi had even considered this, and placed the umbrella inside the snow.
"Let's go, your aunt is waiting for us to go back for dinner."
"Okay." Meng Wan stood up, while Yan Nian bent down to pack his things.
"I think I forgot something in there." Halfway through, Meng Wan rummaged through her small bag.
"Did you leave anything behind when you were packing up?" Yan Nian stopped and tilted the umbrella slightly toward her.
"It probably fell when he got up."
"Let's go back and take a look." Yan Nian made the decision immediately without a single complaint.
"I'll go up myself. The snow is getting heavier. You drive the car over first, and I'll be down soon." Meng Wan raised her hand and pressed down on Yan Nian's arm, stopping him.
"But……"
"Soon." Meng Wan waved her hand, interrupting Yan Nian, and turned to run up, not giving Yan Nian a chance to interrupt.
"Wait! Take the umbrella, don't run so fast, take it slow, don't slip." Yan Nian rushed over and stuffed the umbrella into Meng Wan's hand, giving her a worried reminder.
"Okay," Meng Wan replied.
Yan Nian was worried and kept turning back every three steps, while Meng Wan just stood there, waving at him until she watched him go down before turning back.
A thin layer of snow had already covered the area, which Meng Wan gently brushed away.
"Dad, Mom." When she said it, Meng Wan's ears were red, whether from the cold or from shyness, it was hard to tell.
"Because Aunt Jiang said that you would be very happy if I called you that next time we meet, so I took the liberty of calling you that."
A gust of wind blew by, but it wasn't as biting as usual.
Meng Wan paused, the corners of her mouth slightly turned up, but her nose suddenly felt a little sore.
"Then I'll take that as your agreement."
She calmed herself and exhaled twice. White smoke rose slowly, and the snow continued to fall.
"Yan Nian and I will be fine, so please bless Yan Nian so that he may have a peaceful, smooth, healthy and happy life."
With that, Meng Wanju bowed three times before walking away.
Upon seeing Meng Wan, Yan Nian immediately got out of the car to pick her up.
"The item has been found?"
"Yes, I found it." Meng Wan looked very happy.
"Let's go, your nose is all red from the cold."
"Okay." Meng Wan nodded and rubbed his face.
Yan Nian was somewhat stunned, but did not resist.
After that, a new semester finally arrived. Meng Wan firmly held the top spot in the grade, and although Yan Nian only came for one or two days a semester, with Meng Wan's special intensive tutoring, he was able to maintain his position in the top ten.
Most people just laughed and joked when they saw the list, and there wasn't much of a tense atmosphere even though it was the last semester.
On the contrary, No. 1 Middle School arranged a diagnostic test as soon as the semester started, in order to help students get into exam preparation mode more quickly.
The two schools, facing each other, seemed to be separated by a dividing line, presenting two completely different atmospheres.
