Chapter 14 Opportunities

"I need to tell my parents when I get back."

Meng Zhili was still muttering to himself, but Meng Wan stopped walking.

"I have to go somewhere, so I won't be going back with you. Don't bother preparing dinner."

"Okay, then let me know when you get back and I'll come downstairs to pick you up. It's not safe in the alleys at night." Meng Zhili didn't dare to ask any more questions, only giving this instruction.

Meng Wan wasn't actually worried about this, but the other party said that if she refused again, she would inevitably have to make excuses for several more steps, so she simply agreed.

At the fork in the road, Meng Wan turned a corner and disappeared around the street corner under Meng Zhili's watchful gaze. Meng Zhili, clutching the bag in his hand, sighed, a complex expression on his face.

If Meng... Tang Zhiyi were here, he would inevitably ask a few more questions, but as for Meng Wan, although he was worried, he was afraid that asking a few more questions would annoy her.

He is still thinking about how to make Meng Wan feel relaxed and at ease.

Inside the courtyard, Chen Xiong was already lying on the armchair he had just been in, enjoying the pastries that Meng Wan had brought.

"Master, who is this Meng Zhili? Besides Brother Yan Nian and Sister Wanwan, no one else answered the question, right? Could it be that Sister Wanwan leaked the question beforehand?"

Chen Xiong smiled and waved to him. Chen Liu walked over and half-squatted in front of him. As soon as he squatted down, Chen Xiong flicked him on the forehead, making Chen Liu wince in pain.

"Don't you know what kind of person your sister Wanwan is? She wouldn't bring someone who isn't capable. How long have you been here? At least five or six years, and you haven't answered more than half of the questions others have asked correctly!"

"Wanwan's brain is like it's mutated, how can I compare? Over the years, only Yan Nian has been on par with her." Chen Liu felt extremely aggrieved.

"Do you think I don't know your own limitations? You're comparing yourself to your sister Wanwan! I'm talking about Meng Zhili."

"What? He didn't say a word from beginning to end!" Chen Liu raised his voice.

Chen Xiong stuffed a piece of pastry into his mouth and then put the note into his hand.

"Alright, go help out in the front yard, don't get in my way." With that, Chen Xiong lay back down, but the image of Meng Zhili silently answering questions, his fingers tapping the seams of his trousers intentionally or unintentionally, flashed before his eyes. He initially thought it was just a coincidence, but after several questions, he found that the quantities matched the prescription, confirming it was true.

"Yes, yes, I know. Your precious Wan'er is no problem for you." Chen Liu chewed on his pastry, spewing crumbs out as he spoke, which made Chen Xiong so angry that he wanted to get up and hit him.

Unfortunately, Chen Liu slipped away quickly, managing to escape before Chen Xiong could get up, even managing to grab a piece of pastry with him, leaving Chen Xiong both annoyed and amused.

Upon reaching the front yard, Chen Liu opened the note. The names of the medicines and the precise dosages were listed. Although it was a very basic prescription, it was remarkable that someone could achieve this level of skill without any formal training, relying solely on book knowledge…

Chen Liu put away the note and nodded unconsciously.

Meanwhile, Meng Zhili opened the door with mixed feelings. There was some noise coming from the kitchen; Meng Boqun was preparing dinner. Qin Yi, who had been playing with building blocks with Meng Zhiyao in the living room, came out after hearing the noise.

"mom."

"Wanwan, didn't she come back with you?" Qin Yi looked behind him.

"Wanwan said she has something to do and won't be home for dinner tonight."

"Then go down and meet her when she comes back tonight. There are all sorts of people downstairs, and Wanwan is all alone as a girl..."

“I know,” Meng Zhili said gently.

"By the way, what did you buy this afternoon?" Qin Yi saw the bag in Meng Zhili's hand and assumed it was the siblings' spoils from the afternoon's shopping spree.

"Speaking of which, I have something to tell you all." Meng Zhili smiled and spoke in a light voice.

Qin Yi immediately noticed Meng Zhili's mood, and the corners of her mouth turned up in a smile. "You little rascal, you're starting to keep us in suspense now, is something good happening?"

Meng Zhili didn't answer, but placed the items on the table. At his prompting, Qin Yi opened the bag and her expression changed upon seeing what was inside.

"Why is it medicine?"

Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Meng Zhiyao pulled his attention away from the building blocks and sat silently next to Meng Zhili. Meng Zhili ruffled his hair. "Don't worry, Mom, it's nothing serious. But guess who prescribed this medicine?"

"Who prescribed the medicine?" Qin Yi was taken aback. Meng Boqun had come out at some point and sat down next to Qin Yi.

"It can't be Wanwan, can it?"

"This is all thanks to Wanwan." Meng Zhili stopped keeping her in suspense and recounted everything that had happened that afternoon.

"So, you mean Wanwan not only got Mr. Chen to treat you, but also got him to take you as his apprentice?" Meng Boqun's mouth gaped open, somewhat incredulous.

"Is Chen Xiong the same Chen Xiong that your attending physician mentioned when you went to the hospital before?"

"Yes." Meng Zhili smiled and nodded, giving the two a definite and concise reply.

"We spent a lot of money trying to get a date, but we still couldn't get one..."

"Forget about making an appointment, we haven't even been able to find the person," Meng Boqun added.

"Yes, really? How did Wanwan do that? Forget about taking on a disciple, I'd be thanking my lucky stars just to be able to show you. Heaven has opened its eyes, Zhili. What did Old Master Chen say? Is your health alright?"

"I just need to go a few more times later, but I'll be going there on weekends anyway, so I can learn something."

"That's good. This is your opportunity. You must seize it and not let Wanwan down, nor let Mr. Chen down," Meng Boqun instructed seriously.

"I see."

"If your body can't handle it, tell Mom. Mom is very happy for you to realize your dream. If it really doesn't work, take another year off from school. Mom has experienced all this and now understands that the most important thing is for the whole family to be healthy, safe and sound, and always together."
