The roar of the motorcycle and the whistling wind rushed past their ears as the two crossed the road and finally turned into a side street, stopping at its end. The shop door was open, looking unremarkable from the outside, and inside there were only two or three scattered people cleaning, waiting for night to fall.
Meng Wan took off her helmet and casually ran her fingers through her long hair. Lan Xing's short hair was neat and clean; she just tossed it a couple of times and then ignored it. It was Meng Wan who couldn't bear to see it and helped her tame the stray hairs.
The waiter saw the two and immediately stepped forward to take the helmet. Lan Xing also handed the car keys to the waiter and led Meng Wan inside. Meng Wan is 168 cm tall, but Lan Xing is almost a head taller than her.
"How is it? It's done according to the design you gave me. As a small business owner, I didn't even bother to show up at the opening." As soon as she stepped inside, Lan Xing couldn't wait to show Meng Wan her little bar.
"You know I don't really want to show my face, so as an apology, I sent you some little trinkets, right? Our Miss Lan is so magnanimous, she certainly won't hold it against me, will she?"
Meng Wan cupped her face in her hands and winked at Lan Xing.
"How could I dare to be angry with my sugar daddy?" Lan Xing glanced at the glasses and wines displayed on the counter and clicked his tongue twice.
"Yes, it's just a trinket worth nearly 80 million." That's why she wasn't worried at all even though she knew Meng Wan had left the Tang family.
Whose pampered young lady, underage, can casually take out 80 million to buy trinkets without relying on her family, and incidentally invest 10 million to open a dream tavern for this spendthrift girl who is not favored by her family?
Meng Wan didn't reply to her, but simply walked around the tavern. Lan Xing didn't say anything more and silently followed behind her.
Unlike typical taverns that are flashing with colorful lights, this one wasn't dark at all; instead, it had a warm, yellowish ambiance. The lighting, however, wasn't overly dim; rather, it exuded a sense of refined luxury.
If someone in the know came in, they would immediately recognize that everything here, from a small cup to a large brick on the wall, is of high quality, and some of them are not simply small items that money can buy.
After looking around for a while, Meng Wan casually chose a small corner to sit down. Lan Xing snapped his fingers, and a waiter immediately brought over a cocktail and a soft drink.
Lan Xing tossed her hair back, picked up a cocktail glass with one hand, and casually rested the other on the sofa, looking dashing and carefree.
"So, my savior, are you satisfied with what you see?"
Meng Wan raised an eyebrow, took a sip of juice, and put it back. "Not bad. With Ji Sheng and the others overseeing the work, there shouldn't be any major problems."
"How is Qingling?"
"He should be able to come back in the second half of the year."
"That's good. This guy tells me every day that everything is fine, but when something really happens, he can hide it better than anyone else. Last time, he almost lost his life. If I hadn't been careful, he would still be keeping it from me."
Knowing that Lan Xing gets angry when this topic comes up, Meng Wan changed the subject.
"But why did you suddenly call me over? Is there something important?"
"It's nothing important, but I poached a singer from another store. He's quite handsome. Let's go out for dinner later and listen to a couple of songs before I leave?"
Although Meng Wan wasn't particularly interested, she still nodded.
"Speaking of which, I heard you took your second brother to the traditional Chinese medicine shop?"
"Ji Sheng said that?" Meng Wan raised an eyebrow, not missing the slight unease in Lan Xing's expression.
“He came over yesterday and had two drinks.”
"Did you come to drink yesterday, or do you come every day?" Meng Wan asked deliberately, her tone full of teasing.
Lan Xing pretended to pick up her glass and take a couple of sips, remaining silent on Meng Wan's question. "Don't change the subject, what are you thinking?"
"At least he can live for a year, so consider it a way of repaying him. It would be a pity if he died at 25. He's a decent person, and he has some talent, so I just went along with it and did him a favor. The old man has always wanted to take on an apprentice, and now I've found him a ready-made one, so at least he won't be nagging me about it for a while."
Lan Xing nodded approvingly, "That suits your personality. You wouldn't look down on someone without ability, and the fact that Elder Chen accepted you as a disciple shows that you must have some ability without even looking at you."
"Are things going well? If not, don't force yourself. It's not like you have nowhere else to go."
Meng Wan shook her head. She had lost count of how many times she had explained, but she remained patient and showed no impatience with her good friend's concern.
The two paused for a moment. As if suddenly remembering something, Lan Xing crossed her long legs and leaned forward slightly to look at Meng Wan.
"I received an invitation from the Tang family for a family reunion banquet. It seems they're paving the way for their real daughter to be recognized. What are you planning to do? Or should I go and settle things for you?"
Meng Wan chuckled, "You're just venting your anger?"
Lan Xing awkwardly touched his nose. "That banquet at the Hu family last time was really unexpected. I just let him use his bullying tricks from school. Who knew Hu Feng would be so impatient?"
"A grown man, you can't out-argue me, you can't beat me in a fight, you're a useless guy."
Ultimately, this whole thing started because of Meng Wan.
Hu Feng is a notorious playboy who neglects his studies at school and instead harasses Meng Wan every day. Unfortunately, the Tang family and the Hu family have business dealings, so Meng Wan can't openly break off the relationship. Therefore, Lan Xing always steps in to handle things, but the whole school knows that Lan Xing and Hu Feng don't get along.
After a period of stalemate, the Hu family held a birthday banquet for Old Master Hu. The Tang family intended for Meng Wan to come into contact with Hu Feng, which led to the scene where Lan Xing showed Hu Feng bullying students from families with worse backgrounds than him.
