Chapter 172 Meng Wan cried?

"I'll go call security." Cui Qingling could tell at a glance that things inside must be in complete chaos.

"Okay, I'll go first."

"Then be careful." Cui Qingling said with some concern.

"Okay." Meng Wan patted her shoulder and ran in the direction the reporter had left. Cui Qingling didn't dare to delay and immediately went to the front desk to find help.

When Meng Wan arrived, a crowd had formed a circle, with flashbulbs going off everywhere, hurting people's eyes. Besides those conducting interviews, many patients also came out to join the commotion, completely blocking the passageway.

Nurses were trying to maintain order, but it didn't do much good; they couldn't even squeeze inside.

Meng Wan didn't care about anything else and squeezed in, using her agility to weave through the crowd.

"As I said, if CPR hadn't been performed at the time, the elderly person wouldn't have made it this far. The bones of the elderly are inherently more fragile than those of younger people, and in that situation, of course, human life was more important!"

Meng Zhili's tone was full of helplessness, but he still patiently reasoned with the simply dressed couple in front of him.

“I don’t care about any of that. Anyway, you broke the old man’s ribs, so you have to be responsible for the medical expenses, as well as compensation for mental distress, lost wages, and caregiver fees. You can’t escape any of them.”

The man pointed at Meng Zhili, spitting as he spoke. Meng Zhili frowned and took a step back.

"Hey, hey, are you trying to run away?! Oh my god, this is outrageous! You've hurt people and you want to run away? My mom is still lying in the hospital bed. My husband and I have elderly parents and young children to support. How did we end up like this?!"

Meng Zhili's actions misled the woman, who thought he was leaving. She immediately sat down on the ground and started wailing, slapping her thighs from time to time and muttering about how hard and difficult her life was.

Meng Zhili's expression was not good. He stood there, unsure of what to say. The man was still pointing at him and cursing, the woman was squatting on the ground wailing, and there was a group of onlookers who seemed to enjoy the drama. The scene was quite chaotic.

Meng Zhili pursed his lips, watching the farce unfold before him without uttering a word.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of him.

"Ahhhh! Let go, let go!" The man's face was contorted, and Meng Wan twisted his index finger into an extremely strange position.

Meng Wan gave him a push, and the man lost his balance, stumbled back a few steps, and fell to the ground.

The woman was stunned, and quickly crawled to the man's side to help him up.

"Honey, are you alright? Honey!"

The man cried out in pain, and when the woman saw this, she howled even louder.

"They're hitting people! This is outrageous! They're hitting people!"

"Shut up!" Meng Wan's face was stern, and the warning in her eyes frightened the woman a little, but after she calmed down, she continued to howl.

To her, the person in front of her was just a little girl, what was there to be afraid of?

"Wanwan, what brings you here?" Meng Zhili looked nervous, a stark contrast to his earlier helpless yet composed demeanor. He pulled Meng Wan's hand behind his back, his back to the couple.

"Second brother, are you alright?"

Meng Wan hates it when people point fingers at her.

"I'm fine, but what are you doing here?"

"If I hadn't come, you would have just let them point their fingers at you and insult you without saying a word?" Meng Wan pursed her lips, a hint of helplessness in her eyes. She was indeed angry, but only because Meng Zhili had been bullied.

“There’s no point in talking to this kind of person. Let’s wait for my brother to bring the police over to investigate, file a case, and then we can go home.” This is why Meng Zhili stood there silently.

It's not that we're inactive, but rather that it's unnecessary. Engaging in conflict with them at this time would put us at a disadvantage.

He knew what Meng Wan was thinking, so he gently patted her head, silently comforting her.

As they were talking, the woman and man exchanged a calculated glance. The man clutched his head and groaned in pain. The woman placed his head on her knees, and the next second, she cried out.

The way she looked was as if her husband had died.

"What's wrong with you? You won't pay me and you even hit me! Is there no justice in this world? Pay up! Pay up! Look what you've done to my husband! He must be hurt somewhere!"

"Shut up!" Meng Wan's temples throbbed. She pushed Meng Zhili's hand away and walked step by step toward the woman.

The woman panicked and shrank back.

"What...what do you want to do? There are so many people here, you...you..."

Meng Wan half-squatted in front of her, looking her in the eye. The woman glanced away and silently took a step back.

"You want an inspection? Sure! But if nothing's wrong, you'd better be prepared to take responsibility for the consequences."

The woman's heart skipped a beat, but the man tugged at her sleeve. The movement was very light, but Meng Wan noticed it.

Sure enough, the woman's pupils shifted, she turned her head to look at the surrounding crowd, opened her mouth, and tears fell.

"You're threatening me? You're threatening me! Look at this young girl, threatening a poor man like me! You have no conscience! You all live well and eat well, while we poor people have to be threatened by you. How are we supposed to live!"

"Oh dear, how pitiful."

"Yes, the young lady is dressed so nicely, and look at that other person... These days, young people don't seem to have any compassion."

"Hey, isn't that just them trying to extort money?"

"Whether they're trying to extort money is still uncertain. Didn't you hear them say the old man's ribs were broken? Whether he can be pulled back from the jaws of death is another matter!"

"In my opinion, this couple isn't good people either. The young man did a good deed, but if they act like this again, who will dare to help him?"

"The ribs are indeed broken, so it's only right to pay some compensation. Look at what they're wearing, this amount of money is nothing to them. If the young couple weren't really broke, they wouldn't be making such a fuss!"

Everyone chimed in, each offering their own opinion.

The cameramen held their breath, constantly pressing the shutter button, their flashes going off one after another; you'd think it was a red carpet event.

Meng Zhili frowned, pulled Meng Wan up, and shielded her behind him.

"Don't go too far!" After Meng Zhili finished speaking, Meng Wan patted his hand, indicating that he didn't need to rush.

Meng Zhili was puzzled, but Meng Wan simply raised her hand, and the onlookers quieted down, looking at Meng Wan expectantly, wondering what she would say or whether she would tearfully say that she had not threatened the other party.

The cameras were all pointed at Meng Wan, anticipating her reaction.

"Auntie, how did I threaten you?"

His polite and courteous manner, coupled with his innocent expression, left the woman momentarily stunned and speechless.

"You...you..." She opened her mouth, momentarily at a loss for words.

"Does asking my uncle to get a medical checkup constitute a threat?"

Meng Wan's eyes reddened, and anyone who saw it would think it was the other side's fault.
