Chapter 188 The Lone Ranger

"Congratulations on the successful conclusion of our Cui Qingling baby exhibition!" Lan Xing stepped forward and hugged Cui Qingling. Ji Sheng and Yan Nian stood on either side of the dressing room, holding empty ceremonial cannons. Meng Wan slowly walked over with a cake that had been prepared at some point.

"Thank you for your hard work." Meng Wan smiled, her eyes filled with satisfaction.

The little girl who used to just stare out the window and draw design drafts in the ward has become very outstanding, and more importantly, she is very healthy.

Human life is truly fragile, so she never thought about a lifetime. She just wanted to become stronger so that, in the limited time she had and in the unknown future, she could provide a safety net for her friends and family, allowing them to enjoy life in the present, freely and without worries.

This is good enough. Everyone is healthy, and everyone is happily running forward on their own path, according to their own ideas...

As if by telepathy, Yan Nian walked over at some point, pulled Meng Wan into his arms, kissed the top of her head, and made a silent promise.

In the dark apartment room, only the television screen emitted light.

A "beep" sounded as the door unlocked.

He Tong didn't move at all, his eyes seemingly glued to the television.

"What? Trying to pull that self-isolation act? It's pitch black." Meng Zhilian's voice rang out from the doorway.

"Don't turn on the lights, we're watching a movie."

Upon hearing this, Meng Zhilian put down his hand that was caressing the lamp, changed into slippers, and came in carrying a bag.

"What did you bring?"

"I'm afraid you might do something rash with the alcohol."

Meng Zhilian was on his trip when he received the message, and by the time he finished, the matter was over. After work, he didn't go home to catch up on sleep; instead, he bought some canned liquor and came over.

Both of them lived in apartments arranged for their later years. The security was very good, and stalkers and reporters could not get in. In addition, the accommodation was free and the environment was good. Most celebrities choose to live here in their later years.

After hearing this, He Tong chuckled and sat up straight to make room for Meng Zhilian.

Meng Zhilian didn't stand on ceremony and sat down directly, handing him a can of beverage he had taken out.

"Room temperature?" He Tong asked, sounding somewhat dissatisfied.

"Don't you have any idea what your stomach is like? I don't want to end up on the trending topics again with you, saying that Meng Zhilian had ulterior motives, maliciously forced He Tong to drink alcohol in order to seize resources, and caused He Tong to end up in the hospital."

"You haven't been in this business long, but you've already figured out all the headlines these marketing accounts use," He Tong said, opening a wine jar with one hand and taking a sip.

Meng Zhilian didn't speak, and the two of them just stared at the movie playing on the screen, drinking in silence.

The two lived on the floors above and below each other. He Tong seemed lively and easy to get along with, but in reality, he was a loner who didn't interact with anyone. It was only because of his identity as Meng Wan's brother that he spoke a few more words with Meng Zhilian.

The two had just an ordinary working relationship, and it was only by chance that things turned out this way.

That day, Meng Zhilian bought some groceries on his way home to cook. He inherited Qin Yi's talent for cooking and was a hidden kitchen whiz. He often cooked half of the dishes at family gatherings.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, He Tong, bundled up tightly, staggered out of the elevator.

"Are you alright?" Meng Zhilian reached out and helped him up.

He Tong recognized Meng Zhilian's voice and forced himself to sit up straight.

"Hey, just got back? What did you buy?" He looked nonchalant, as if nothing had happened if his palms weren't ice-cold.

Meng Zhilian frowned. "Where are you going looking like that? Aren't you afraid of being photographed by paparazzi?"

"It's an old ailment; I'll go to the clinic to get some medicine." Seeing that he couldn't hide it any longer, He Tong simply stopped trying to conceal it. After all, he was Meng Wan's brother, someone he could trust to some extent.

The clinic has fewer people and better confidentiality than a hospital. Besides, Chen Xiong was lively and energetic as soon as he got the needle.

"I'm delivering some things to my brother on my way, let's go together." As soon as the clinic was mentioned, Meng Zhilian immediately knew where it was.

He Tong knew perfectly well that he was talking nonsense. Why would someone who had just returned from home and bought groceries suddenly want to deliver something? But it was fine this way; it was better for him to deliver it than for her to take a taxi.

After all that commotion, it was already dark.

He Tongren calmed down considerably, and his face regained some color.

Meng Zhilian didn't say anything, escorted him back to his room and went upstairs. Less than half an hour later, he knocked on He Tong's door.

"What's wrong?" He Tong looked down and saw that Meng Zhilian was carrying a lunchbox.

"I cooked extra porridge, and there's no one else to give it to, so I'll give it to you." After saying that, she shoved the porridge into He Tong's arms, walked away with a straight face, and didn't say another word.

He Tong found it amusing, but didn't refuse; why not take something that's free?

This is an old problem of his. He used to live in a slum where there was not much to eat, and he would go hungry for three days after eating one meal. Later, he became a big star and filmed day and night. Sometimes, in order to look better on camera, he would skip one or two meals. His stomach has long been ruined by his own actions.

As Grandpa Chen said, if things continue like this, even a celestial being couldn't do anything about it.

But what can be done? He was all alone, so what if he died? At least he didn't die in a dark alley; he should be content.

But for the next few days, the doorbell rang precisely on time. As soon as he opened the door, Meng Zhilian would appear at his door with a lunchbox, and his words would remain unchanged.

On the third day, He Tong rubbed his messy hair and opened the door sleepily.

"Password 3605, stop pressing it, you'll have to register your fingerprint later. Dude! Eight o'clock! What young person gets up at eight to eat breakfast?! I finally got a month-long vacation!"
