After hanging up the phone, Meng Wan stared at the darkened screen, lost in thought.
"Wanwan, what's wrong?" Cui Qingling came out from the next room and saw Meng Wan standing alone at the end of the corridor, lost in thought.
Meng Wan put away her phone and shook her head.
"Are you done talking?"
"Yes, I've already paid for their meal. How was your food?"
"Half and half, I'm saving half my stomach for when you come back."
The two talked as they entered the private room.
On the other side, Tang Qi looked away, placed his phone on the table, and slowly began to cut the beef on his plate.
"What did my sister say?" Lin Bai asked curiously.
Tang Qi didn't speak, but glanced at Lin Bai. The latter curled his lip, "Fine, your sister, your sister! Even her own brother hasn't said anything to me."
When he said the last sentence, Lin Bai lowered his voice, clearly not daring to be too presumptuous in front of Tang Qi.
"Tell me what they're talking about?"
"What else could it be? It's just trying to make that ingrate a little bit of trouble." Tang Qi swirled his wine glass and took a small sip.
"Aren't you worried?" Even Lin Bai was a little confused by Tang Qi's calm demeanor.
"A reminder is enough; what you do next is up to the little ingrate." Tang Qi put down his wine glass.
“I didn’t interfere in her affairs when she was young, so I naturally don’t have that right now that she’s grown up. Besides, she’ll do everything very well, so what’s there to worry about? Even if she doesn’t do well, there are plenty of people to back her up. She can’t lose no matter what, so let her do whatever she wants.”
Lin Bai is an only child and doesn't understand this awkward sibling relationship.
"Oh, he's gone." Lin Bai saw Hu Lou stand up.
They were on the second floor and couldn't see Hu Lou's expression clearly, but they could clearly sense Tian Wei's composure. When Hu Lou stood up, Tian Wei remained seated, without moving an inch.
"In your opinion, did the talks break down or succeed?"
"Interested?" Tang Qi glanced at him. "Then why don't you go down and listen?"
Lin Bai didn't know what he had said to offend this young master, so he pursed his lips, stopped talking, and looked away.
Downstairs, shortly after Hu Lou left, Tian Wei also got up and left.
The table was spotless, with only two glasses of water. The glass at Tian Wei's seat was full and untouched.
Over here, the group of people who had been eating gradually left. After hailing a taxi for her drunk colleague, Cui Qingling still needed to go back to her studio to tidy up some other things, so she left with Ji Sheng and Lan Xing, who were going the same way. Meng Wan, on the other hand, went back to school with Yan Nian.
In the car, Meng Wan mentioned to Yan Nian what Tang Qi had just told her over the phone.
"Tian Wei... I remember she followed you right after graduating from school, right? She was only about half a year younger than Bai Liling?"
"right."
Bai Liling, as an agent, had already gained some fame in the industry, but she was betrayed by the artist she had nurtured. When she was desperate, Meng Wan took her in and she became one of the founding members of the company.
Tian Wei, on the other hand, entered the workforce when she was just beginning to gain some recognition in her later years.
At that time, she didn't know anything, and Meng Wan had to teach her things little by little. Fortunately, she was smart enough to learn many things quickly, so she passed the probation period smoothly and has been working there ever since.
"Judging from your expression, you think she won't betray you, right?" Yan Nian always seemed to be able to guess what Meng Wan was thinking.
"Mmm," Meng Wan replied readily.
No sooner had he finished speaking than Tian Wei called.
Meng Wan raised an eyebrow and waved it in front of Yan Nian like a child showing off a toy. Yan Nian chuckled and ruffled her hair.
When the green light came on, Yan Nian released the brake, and the car slowly started moving.
"Mr. Meng, the latest quarterly report has been sent to your email."
"I saw it."
"Also, we should be careful about the Hu family recently. They seem to be expanding into the entertainment and fashion industries. I checked, and they've invested in our competitor. Sister Bai also mentioned that the Hu family has been privately contacting artists whose contracts are about to expire. Manufacturers on W·P's side have also said that the Hu family is offering higher prices and lower requirements, which is clearly targeting us."
Tian Wei's voice was flat, like a programmed robot, with no inflection. Just by listening to her speak, one could imagine an elite woman in a business suit and black-rimmed glasses.
"Check which artists are interested in leaving, and have Sister Bai categorize them and handle them accordingly. Let those who want to leave go directly, don't force them to stay." With He Tong and Meng Zhilian, currently the two most popular top stars, they are enough to support a third of their later years.
In their later years, there are still some veteran actors who are skilled and don't act like divas, so they are unlikely to leave. The only ones left are the newly popular young actors, and whether they stay or leave won't have a significant impact on their later years.
"Keep an eye on W·P. If any manufacturers refuse to cooperate, then communicate with others. W·P's main focus is on quality, and we will never back down."
"Understood. I've already contacted several backup manufacturers and sent them to your email. The price list and their pros and cons are also in the table." Tian Wei always anticipates Meng Wan's next move and prepares in advance, so she's very efficient.
Meng Wan responded with a reply.
She always trusted Tian Wei to get things done; she handled everything meticulously, big or small, without Tian Wei needing to say a word. After all, she had personally trained Tian Wei, and she knew perfectly well where the limits of her abilities lay.
But even after the call ended, Tian Wei didn't mention that she and Hu Lou had gone out to eat.
"How is it?" Meng Wan's question seemed abrupt and unrelated.
"Wanwan's judgment of people is never wrong." With that, the car came to a smooth stop next to the school gate.
Meng Wan unbuckled her seatbelt to get out, but Yan Nian stopped her. He blinked, looking like a wronged puppy.
Meng Wan understood, and with a smile, she cupped Yan Nian's face in her hands and planted a kiss on his lips. Yan Nian, however, was not satisfied and pressed the back of her head, deepening the kiss.
It took them a while before they reluctantly parted.
"Goodnight." Yan Nian's eyes were slightly red, and he kissed Meng Wan's slightly swollen, red lips with a hint of pity.
Meng Wan's nose was red. She nodded and then opened the car door to get out. Her legs felt a little weak as she got out, and she felt as if she were walking on clouds, light and airy.
Meanwhile, Tian Wei rubbed her eyes after hanging up the phone and closed her laptop.
"Finished the work?" A thin woman leaned against the bed, with a wheelchair and two walking frames beside her.
“The food’s getting cold. Why can’t we wait until we finish eating before cooking? You’re always like this, only thinking about work and never taking care of your health.” Tian Chan’s tone was full of concern.
"Since I've taken such a high salary and enjoy the benefits they approved for me, I have to do my job well. Haven't you always told me to remember their kindness and not be ungrateful?"
Tian Wei opened the takeout box. Her dialect sounded soft and sweet, almost like she was being coquettish. Compared to her usual concise and aloof demeanor at work, she was completely different.
