"I'll go there this afternoon for the rest that need to be confirmed in person. You've worked hard tonight. I approve that you don't have to go to work tomorrow morning."
"Thank you, boss. Good night." Tian Wei replied quickly, without the slightest hesitation.
Meng Wan was already used to her behavior and stopped replying, simply closing her laptop. She subconsciously picked up the water glass from the bedside table, only to find it empty.
With a sigh, Meng Wan put away her computer, got up to stretch her limbs, and then got out of bed to grab her water glass and go out. As she pulled back the curtain, she was caught off guard and met a pair of dark, bright eyes.
Meng Wan got goosebumps immediately, and only breathed a sigh of relief after turning on the light and seeing the other person.
"Did I disturb you?" The owner of those dark eyes was none other than Meng Zhiyao. His hand was on the door handle, but his eyes were fixed on Meng Wan.
He shook his head, opened the door, and walked out. Meng Wan followed him out, and after watching him head towards the bathroom, she went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
After they finished what they were doing, they didn't say goodbye. Meng Wan turned off the light, and the not-so-peaceful night finally came to an end.
Perhaps because she was too tired yesterday, Meng Wan slept exceptionally well. She glanced at the time; it was only around ten o'clock.
After relaxing, Meng Wan got up to wash up. The house was empty except for a rice cooker with porridge warming inside, and a sticky note next to it reminding her to eat after getting up.
After finishing breakfast, Meng Wan was just about to go back to her room when there was a rhythmic knocking on the door.
Three knocks, then a complete stop.
Meng Wan opened the door; it was the deliveryman.
"Is this Meng Wan? Please sign for the package." The package box had the school's logo and name printed on it. Meng Wan didn't ask any questions, signed for it, and went back to her room after the deliveryman left.
Unsurprisingly, upon opening it, it contained the school uniform.
Unlike other public school uniforms, their uniforms come in three styles: spring, summer, and winter, plus additional sportswear, swimwear, and riding attire. New uniforms are issued annually and delivered to each student before the start of the school year.
The school's intelligence network is always top-notch; they receive any changes in a student's family immediately. Therefore, Meng Wan wasn't too surprised when she received the school's package.
Their school also has a tradition: to maintain students' creativity, everyone is required to create something on the first day of school using the white short-sleeved shirts provided by the school. The winner of the creative competition is then chosen by anonymous student vote.
The prizes vary each year. Although the students are all wealthy and powerful and look down on the school's small prizes, they are rich and have plenty of free time. In addition, the open creative graffiti competition itself is fun, so the participation rate is very high.
While some highly competitive individuals might seek help from cheat codes, most people simply want to let loose and express themselves. So every year when others are feeling anxious and about to start another boring academic year, the students at their school are like a bunch of idiots, competing to see whose design is better, and some even bring graffiti jars to create artwork on the spot.
Because someone vandalized the school building one year, their year was limited to allowing free graffiti only in specific locations.
Meng Wan looked at the white t-shirt inside and sighed. Fortunately, she was not good at drawing, but her use of color and aesthetic sense were always on point. Although she did not win the first prize, she inexplicably caused a short-lived fashion graffiti trend at the school.
Her sigh wasn't about worrying about the white T-shirt, but rather about anticipating the dark scene she would face the moment she stepped into school tomorrow.
Sighing as she was, she still had to do it well. Meng Wan looked around and then remembered that she wasn't at the Tang family's house anymore, and naturally, she didn't have any paints or anything like that. Although she had asked Yan Nian to bring her a small box last time, she had given it all to Meng Zhiyao and hadn't kept a single can for herself.
Helpless, Meng Wan got up, intending to borrow some paint from Meng Zhiyao. She knocked on the cabinet; the curtains swayed gently in the breeze, but there was still no sound. Meng Wan was used to this and assumed the child was engrossed in painting again, so she simply pulled back the curtains.
However, there was no one there.
Meng Wan was about to lower the curtain when she was drawn to the painting in front of the window. It was a scene of darkness, interspersed with a few streaks of dark red, the image eerily distorted. Despite the sweltering summer heat, the painting seemed to chill the surrounding air by several degrees.
Instinctively, Meng Wan walked towards the painting. The moment she reached out, Meng Zhiyao suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed her outstretched hand, and bit down hard. Meng Wan clearly felt the pain of teeth digging into her skin; the other person was so fierce, it was as if she wouldn't be satisfied until she bit off a piece of her flesh.
Meng Wan gasped. She raised her hand, but Meng Zhiyao trembled violently, her eyes filled with extreme terror, and she clenched her teeth even tighter.
Meng Wan was very perceptive of emotions, and a thought that she instinctively wanted to deny flashed through her mind. Her brows furrowed, and the pain still radiated from her hand, but she placed her raised hand on Meng Zhiyao's head and patted it gently, as if to comfort her.
The entire movement was very smooth, as if Meng Wan immediately raised her hand to comfort Meng Zhiyao after feeling pain.
There were no screams or thrashings as expected... Meng Zhiyao felt a sense of security and gentle care from Meng Wan.
He blinked, his eyes clear, the fear gone, and met Meng Wan's gaze. There was no disgust, only helplessness.
"Sorry for entering your territory without your permission. I just wanted to borrow some paint from you." Meng Wan squatted down to look him in the eye, so that she could be on equal footing with him.
Meng Wan didn't seem to have much of an emotional reaction to being bitten. Putting aside the fact that she was in the wrong first, his attack wasn't as impactful as the attacks from the Tang family.
Meng Zhiyao calmed down as well. He let go of her hand, huddled against the wall, and hugged his knees tightly. His already small and thin frame looked even more pitiful in this curled-up state. Meng Wan wasn't someone who easily succumbed to sympathy, but seeing Meng Zhiyao's current appearance, she couldn't help but frown.
She wanted to say something, but felt it wasn't the right time, and... she looked at her bleeding arm and sighed.
Without lingering, Meng Wan left the room, giving Meng Zhiyao some space. She searched the living room; it wasn't large, so she quickly found the first-aid kit.
The area around the wound was bluish-purple, with small beads of blood seeping out from time to time. Her hands were already fair and delicate, and the teeth marks looked extremely out of place on them, even somewhat frightening at first glance. Fortunately, it was her left hand that was injured, so cleaning it was not difficult.
Meng Wan unscrewed the hydrogen peroxide and poured it on without even blinking. Bubbles rose up, and after wiping it dry, she took out iodine and began applying the medicine. Her movements were swift and efficient, and she didn't blink once throughout the entire process.
After removing the gauze, Meng Wan bit one corner of it while wrapping her other hand around the wound.
At that moment, Qin Yi and the other two's voices rang out from outside the door, and the next second, the door was opened.
