When she came out, Meng Wan had a bag in her hand with a takeout box containing noodles with soybean paste inside.
"Let's go, what kind of club is so busy that they don't even give us time to eat?" Guo Qingqing complained.
"It seems to be a large-scale event, some leaders are coming, so it's being taken very seriously. The student council has been busy for a week." When it comes to social skills, no one dares to say they're second to none. She already knows a lot of information before it even gets out.
Thanks to her, 206 never missed any notifications or information from the class, department, or even the entire school.
The three of them walked towards the student council, chatting and laughing. As luck would have it, they turned a corner and saw Xu Jiaojiao not far away. Guo Qingqing was about to call her name when Lin Mi covered her mouth and pulled her to a corner.
"What's wrong?" Guo Qingqing asked, puzzled.
"Wanwan, isn't that the guy who was bothering you before, what's his name, Hu?"
"Yes, how come Hu Lou is with Jiao Jiao, chatting and laughing together?" Guo Qingqing obviously recognized him too, and deliberately lowered her voice.
"I think I heard Jiao Jiao say before that they were all in the student council." Lin Mi looked at Meng Wan, who smiled and didn't seem to care.
“I don’t get along with him, so I can’t expect Jiaojiao to keep her distance from him too, right? We’re in the same student council, so it’s normal for us to have contact. Don’t overthink it.”
"Let's go, or the noodles will fall apart." Seeing Meng Wan's generous demeanor, the two finally felt relieved.
Xu Jiaojiao was unaware that Meng Wan and the others were right behind her. Although Hu Lou and she were both in the student council, they had no contact because they belonged to different departments.
"Excuse me, I bumped into you. Are you alright?" Hu Lou picked up the scattered documents on the ground and then took the large stack of documents from Xu Jiaojiao's hand.
"No need, it's okay, I can do it myself."
"What kind of logic is it to let a girl carry so much stuff?" Hu Lou's voice was magnetic, and his movements were full of gentlemanly manners, making him the type of person who easily wins people's favor.
"I'm used to farm work, this is nothing to me." Xu Jiaojiao blushed slightly, looking simple and well-behaved.
"That won't do either, give this to me. By the way, I feel like I've seen you somewhere before? It wasn't a flirting attempt... I remember... you're Meng Wan's roommate, right? What's your name?"
When the other person mentioned Meng Wan's name, Xu Jiaojiao finally remembered who the other person was.
"You don't need to be too wary. Meng Wan and I just had a misunderstanding. We're all in the same circle, so we'll all have some interests involved. I'm just stating the facts, not personalities." Hu Lou's open and generous manner made Xu Jiaojiao less wary.
"Wanwan is a reasonable person, it's fine as long as she explains it clearly."
"You're a pretty good person," Hu Lou chuckled.
A compliment made Xu Jiaojiao blush.
"Jiaojiao." As the two walked side by side, Guo Qingqing's voice came from behind.
Xu Jiaojiao stopped in her tracks. "Qingqing, what brings you here?"
Xu Jiaojiao was both surprised and delighted.
"I won't bother you any longer. I'll take these documents in for you first. The chairman and the others won't be here for another half hour, so there's no rush," Hu Lou said softly, standing beside her.
"Thank you so much, you've gone to so much trouble."
Hu Lou smiled slightly at her, then carried the documents into the office building.
"Jiaojiao, what's going on? Why are you with him?" Guo Qingqing took Xu Jiaojiao's hand.
"I had too many documents and accidentally dropped them on the ground. He picked them up for me," Xu Jiaojiao said, explaining what had happened.
Guo Qingqing nodded. "I still think this person is very cunning. You should be careful."
"I understand, don't worry." Faced with Guo Qingqing's advice, Xu Jiaojiao did not speak up for Hu Lou, but agreed.
"By the way, what brings you all here?" Xu Jiaojiao steered the conversation back on track.
"I brought you some food, noodles with soybean paste. Eat up, don't let it get soggy." Meng Wan handed the bag to her and pointed to the flower bed next to her.
"Thank you..." Xu Jiaojiao was a little touched. After all, she was all alone in a foreign land, and the only ones who would still care about her not eating properly were the three of them.
"By the way, I really have nothing to do with him, don't misunderstand." Xu Jiaojiao looked into Meng Wan's eyes and emphasized again.
Meng Wan chuckled and flicked her forehead lightly.
"stupid!"
Xu Jiaojiao rubbed her temples and grinned foolishly. The three of them led her to sit by the flower bed and finish eating her noodles.
Since that day, Hu Lou began to appear in Xu Jiaojiao's field of vision intentionally or unintentionally. The two did not have much interaction, but they would occasionally exchange a few words because of business.
Everything seemed normal, but the two seemed to be getting closer.
"Jiaojiao, the event starts tonight. What are you in charge of?" As soon as Hu Lou entered the auditorium, he walked towards Xu Jiaojiao at the back of the auditorium.
"I'm in charge of registering and greeting guests at the door. What about you?"
"I'll take the photos." With that, Hu Lou picked up the camera from his chest and snapped a picture of Xu Jiaojiao before she could even react.
Xu Jiaojiao covered her face, but unfortunately, she was still a step too late.
"Don't be shy, you're very beautiful, look." Hu Lou smiled and pulled up the photo.
He moved closer to Xu Jiaojiao so she could see him better. Their shoulders were touching, which appeared quite intimate to outsiders.
"She's just a country bumpkin. Hu Lou is a good person, so it's normal for him to care about her more."
On stage, a well-dressed girl looked rather unwell, while another girl whispered words of comfort in her ear.
"Of course I know. With her country bumpkin appearance and stench, her clothes are probably worn out from years of wear." The sophisticated girl's words revealed her extreme disgust and disdain for Xu Jiaojiao.
