Upstairs, Meng Wan's hand hovered in mid-air before she finally gave up knocking and gently pushed the door open to go inside.
The door closed with a slight sound.
Yan Nian looked at her, her eyes red-rimmed, looking somewhat aggrieved, like an unwanted golden retriever, making her look pitiful.
Meng Wan said nothing, but stepped forward and hugged him. Yan Nian held her waist and didn't let go for a long time.
Just like two years ago, Meng Wan gently patted his back again and again, giving him silent comfort and support.
At this moment, no amount of comforting words can compare to the reassurance of a hug.
After what seemed like an eternity, Meng Wan finally sat down. Their hands were clasped tightly together, as if they were the only two people in the world.
"Grandpa Chen told you, right?" Yan Nian's voice was a little hoarse.
"Mmm." Meng Wan gripped his hand even tighter.
"Am I being too selfish? I know Mom is in a lot of pain, but I'm only thinking about myself."
"I know." I know all your thoughts, all your unspeakable pain.
"Grandpa Chen said he had a way to wake Mom up, but after that, nothing he did could change anything. Dad didn't leave a word when he passed away, so I thought... at least I could talk to Mom one more time..."

"No, but the school sports meet starts next month, are you coming?"
"Of course, Peng Zhe told me you signed up for three projects. Was it him who kept pestering you to sign up? If you don't want to, then don't participate. Ignore his madness."
"It's the last year, so I'll just let it be. I won first prize in this design competition, and Su Ping and Peng Zhe plan to use my design for class uniforms."
"Isn't W.P. just planning to expand its business? This is a perfect opportunity to do some free advertising."

"Let Tian Wei step in then, otherwise if Peng Zhe finds out that you're in charge, everyone in the industry will know within three days, and you'll definitely find it annoying."
At this point, Yan Nian finally smiled, as if he could already see Meng Wan's adorable appearance, helpless and embarrassed, yet forced to deal with trivial matters with a cold face.
"That's what I was planning to do too. I'll leave the rest to Su Ping." She paused, then continued.

“Not everyone can recognize a person as discerning as Wanwan.” Yan Nian ruffled Meng Wan’s hair, his tone full of affection.
The car came to a smooth stop at the entrance, and Yan Nian got out and opened the car door for Meng Wan.
In the courtyard, Tang Li and Meng Zhiyao were demonstrating the Tyrannosaurus Rex's skills, which was quite harmonious. Qian Yixuan sat on a stone bench in the courtyard, watching the two people and the dog play.
Hearing the commotion, the three people and the dog all looked over. Tang Li, with his sharp eyes, immediately spotted Meng Wan.
"Tang Wan!" Tang Li ran over, and Meng Zhiyao and Tyrannosaurus Rex followed. Qian Yixuan shouted from behind to tell them to slow down, but no one listened to him.
He was the last to come out and paused for a moment when he saw Yan Nian, but still nodded to him as a greeting. Yan Nian returned the greeting, but silently took a step closer to Meng Wan, displaying a strong sense of possessiveness.
Qian Yixuan noticed the coat Meng Wan was wearing. He tugged at the corner of his mouth, looked away, and concealed his emotions.
"Have you eaten?" Meng Wan's attention was on the two children. She covered their heads with her hands, making sure they were both touched.
"I ate," Tang Li replied loudly, while Meng Zhiyao nodded silently.
"I'm sorry I'm only coming to pick you up now. I hope I didn't cause any trouble for Brother Yixuan?" Meng Wan didn't put on an adult-like attitude towards the two of them. She was open and generous in apologizing when necessary and praising when appropriate.
"Of course not! As a reward and apology gift, how about taking us to the amusement park next time?" Even though she is young, she is still one of the heirs cultivated by the Tang family, and she is first-rate in negotiation.
"An amusement park?" Meng Wan was somewhat surprised.
Tang Li's eyes shone brightly with anticipation. But it wasn't that he had never been to an amusement park before; in fact, he had been twice.
One time, he sneaked out. There were many people, including many children his age, but seeing the other children with their parents, he inexplicably couldn't feel happy. The second time, he booked the whole place, thinking it would be fun to play alone, but he ended up going home after less than an hour.
