Meanwhile, as soon as Qian Yixuan left, Yan Nian immediately relaxed his guard and breathed a sigh of relief.
She took Yan Nian's hand and shook it, then brought her face close to his.
Yan Nian didn't react for a moment, his Adam's apple bobbed, and his gaze fell on her small, bright red lips.
"Wh...what's wrong..." Yan Nian blinked rapidly and looked away. He felt inexplicably guilty and didn't dare to look Meng Wan in the eye, his ear tips turning slightly red.
“I’m watching some people get jealous out of nowhere.” Meng Wan ruffled his hair.
"I didn't eat anything indiscriminately," Yan Nian retorted softly.
Meng Wan didn't quite understand, but Yan Nian had never done anything out of line, so she let him be. After all, Meng Wan found his occasional jealousy quite cute.
Even Meng Wan found Yan Nian's hostility towards Qian Yixuan strange.
If it's just because of jealousy, then it should be jealousy of He Tong. After all, He Tong's debut song was created by the two of them living and eating together for three days and going through countless revisions. As for Qian Yixuan, she only brought him to Chen Xiong's place.
Even if Qian Yixuan really had feelings for her, he would never have said it.
He lacked He Tong's courage to take a desperate gamble. When faced with a problem, he might not necessarily seek the optimal solution, but he would certainly proceed in the safest way. If he found that a path was not feasible, he would simply give up.
Clearly, confessing his feelings to Meng Wan is a dead end and will only lead to his complete failure.
If that's the case, why does Yan Nian treat everyone the same, but act as if he's facing a formidable enemy when dealing with Qian Yixuan? Logically speaking, Qian Yixuan is the most restrained one, and should be the one Yan Nian can relax the most, right?
Meng Wan didn't understand, but since Yan Nian didn't say anything, she wouldn't press him further. Within the normal scope of friendship, Meng Wan wouldn't automatically avoid suspicion, but once that scope was crossed, she would naturally give Yan Nian the greatest sense of security.
"Let's go, I'll take you home first. After all, it's the New Year, it's better to go home."
"Then why don't you stay here for the night? We can go and wish Uncle Yan and the others a Happy New Year together tomorrow."
"Hmm." Yan Nian rubbed Meng Wan's head, his mood not very good.
Meng Wan stopped and stood on tiptoe to cup his face in her hands.
"Our handsome young man Yan Nian, don't look so gloomy."
Meng Wan's eyes are round, bright, and clear; they look so beautiful under the streetlights.
Yan Nian couldn't help but chuckle and nod.
When I drove downstairs, I saw a familiar car parked in front of the door.
Meng Wan looked at Yan Nian, who probably knew who the person who had come was.
"Speak properly, don't argue. I'll go park the car first and come pick you up later." The two of them touched heads together, and Yan Nian gently stroked her hair, softly persuading her.
"Okay, what's there to argue about?" Meng Wan pouted, but still unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
As soon as she got out of the car, a person and a dog ran out of the car.
"Tang Wan!" Tang Li, dressed in a Tang suit, had a rosy face but bright eyes, and ran straight into Meng Wan's arms.
The Tyrannosaurus Rex wagged its tail and circled the two of them, its tongue sticking out, looking quite excited.
"Why don't you go upstairs?" Meng Wan reached out and caught him, then casually wrapped the scarf around his neck.
“I asked Meng Zhiyao, and he said that since you weren’t there, we didn’t go up.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Tang Qi stepped down. The long trench coat made his figure appear even more upright and added a touch of refined elegance to him.
"Is the family dinner over?"
"Yes. To give you some hints, she's been getting involved with the new heir of the Hu family."
"Hu Lou? With Tang Zhiyi's brain, don't let her be used and end up counting money for others."
"That's her problem."
He reached out and patted Meng Wan on the head with the red envelope. Meng Wan glared at him in displeasure.
"Happy New Year, you little ingrate."
It was a brand new red envelope, thin, and carrying a touch of warmth.
"Happy New Year." Meng Wan replied, suppressing a smile.
"Oh right, here you go. You're a year older now, so you can't be so willful anymore." She touched her pocket and then remembered that the red envelope was in her bag, and the bag was in the car.
"Here you go." Yan Nian, who had parked his car at some point, walked over and handed the bag to Meng Wan.
Meng Wan accepted it, and Tang Li's expectations were finally met. Tang Li, who was initially angry because of Meng Zhiyao's boasting, now just wanted to retaliate and show off to Meng Zhiyao.
Meng Wan also put the red envelope that Tang Qi gave her into her bag.
Tang Qi and Yan Nian sized each other up. The latter nodded slightly, while the former gave a soft snort and looked away.
"Shall we go up?"
This time, it was Meng Wan who took the initiative to propose it.
"Let's go." Tang Qi rubbed her head.
The way the two interacted seemed particularly awkward to outsiders.
Tang Li didn't make a fuss, waved to her, and got into the car with Tang Qi.
"Look, a red envelope." After the two people and the dog left, Meng Wan immediately took out a red envelope and waved it in front of Yan Nian.
"Are you happy?" Yan Nian put her hat on, held her hand, and breathed on it.
"It's alright." Meng Wan refused to admit it, but the smile that appeared on her face revealed her true thoughts.
Yan Nian didn't expose her, and the two went upstairs hand in hand.
Fireworks burst in the sky, and the two stopped in their tracks as if on cue.
When they were little, they used to set off fireworks in the yard, but now that they're older, other people are setting them off instead.
"Let's celebrate the New Year together next year."
"good."
Their fingers were intertwined. They didn't talk about forever, but when it came to the future, the other was always there for them.
