However, before the gambling game even started, Hu Lou, the organizer who had been missing for a long time, returned.
The timing was too perfect. Meng Wan looked up, her eyes unreadable, but the smile on her lips made Xu Jiaojiao feel uneasy, as if something was about to happen.
At that moment, she suddenly felt incredibly fortunate.
"What are you all doing? Why is it so quiet?"
Hu Lou's appearance was like a wake-up call for everyone.
Hu Lou walked over and patted Ouyang Hui on the shoulder. The other man was very sensible and immediately moved aside for him.
"I didn't expect Miss Meng to be interested in this kind of thing?" Hu Lou sat down, resting his hands on his knees.
"The main person at the party isn't here, so we have to do something to pass the time." Meng Wan casually raised her eyes, but it inexplicably sent a chill down one's spine.
Often, it's not about accomplishing something extraordinary to arouse others' fear.
"That was my fault." Hu Lou snapped his fingers, and soon a waiter came over.
"I'll punish myself with three drinks first." With that, he took the wine glass and drank one after another.
When Hu Lou picked up the fourth cup, he didn't drink it, but placed it in front of Meng Wan.
"Princess Louis, please have a taste." With that, she placed another glass in front of Xu Jiaojiao.
Seeing that Meng Wan didn't move, Xu Jiaojiao naturally didn't dare to pick it up and drink it either.
"Is it not to your liking?"
"Good wine should be savored slowly, no rush." Meng Wan gently shook the bottle, but Hu Lou knew that she was subtly mocking him for drinking three cups in a row, which was impolite and rude.
Hu Lou forced a smile, his lips twitching slightly.
The next second, however, an unexpected incident occurred. Someone in the crowd shouted, "Don't push me!" But these people had been crowding together to join in the fun, and now they were like dominoes, one after another, bumping into each other.
With a 'crash,' someone bumped into the waiter.
The waiter held the plate tightly, but the wine glasses on it all fell over due to the spill, and the wine in the glasses was all splashed on Hu Lou.
The scene fell silent for a moment, as everyone looked at Hu Lou's disheveled appearance.
The most composed person throughout was Meng Wan, who simply swirled her wine glass without making a single movement.
"Hu Lou, are you alright?" Xu Jiaojiao covered her mouth, looking frightened.
"It's nothing." Hu Lou's face darkened, but he could only suppress his anger.
The two words were forced out through gritted teeth.
Xu Jiaojiao quickly grabbed a few tissues and handed them to Hu Lou, while Meng Wan slowly put down her wine glass.
"Young Master Hu, you should go and change your clothes first. As the protagonist, you can't wander around in wet clothes."
"Miss Meng is right. I'm sorry everyone, I have to leave again for a while." Hu Lou stood up, his expression having returned to normal.
"I'd think you were a superhero if I didn't know better, disappearing every now and then." His companion's teasing eased the tension considerably.
Hu Lou punched him on the shoulder, apologized to the others, and told the waiter to tidy up before leaving.
Meng Wan looked in the direction he left, and coincidentally, her eyes met Hu Lou's.
Meng Wan showed no remorse for being caught, and nodded generously as a greeting.
Hu Lou smiled, returned the greeting, and disappeared through the gate.
After the little incident ended, no one dared to confront Meng Wan again, and the incident gradually faded away.
In the blink of an eye, only Meng Wan and Xu Jiaojiao remained.
"What a pity, I was hoping you could play a couple more rounds."
Xu Jiaojiao quickly shook her head, "I've read so much but I still don't understand it. Besides, I'm not interested in this kind of gambling."
Meng Wan picked up the dice from the table, threw them into the cup, and shook them a few times.
"Oh? That's good. It's best to avoid gambling if you can avoid it."
Meng Wan opened the lid and saw several dice stacked together, with the top one showing a six.
"How did you make this?" Xu Jiaojiao asked curiously.
These dice seemed to have a mind of their own in Meng Wan's hands; whatever number she wanted, they would roll.
"My boyfriend taught me." Meng Wan looked at Xu Jiaojiao, and her eyes softened when she mentioned Yan Nian.
"Your boyfriend taught you this?" Xu Jiaojiao asked, somewhat surprised.
"If you can't escape it, then take control of the outcome. That's his exact words."
Xu Jiaojiao's lips were slightly parted, a mixture of surprise and envy in her expression.
"It's almost time, I'm going to the restroom." Meng Wan suddenly stood up.
Xu Jiaojiao nodded, "Go ahead."
"Remember what I said."
"I remember, don't worry."
Xu Jiaojiao's reaction made Meng Wan nod in satisfaction.
Without saying another word, Meng Wan left her seat.
Xu Jiaojiao sat in her seat, and as the others saw Meng Wan leave, they all came forward to inquire about the news. She kept Meng Wan's words in mind, and when faced with other people's questions, she just evaded them, saying everything, yet it seemed like she said nothing at all.
When offered drinks, they would decline, saying they had recently caught a cold and were taking medicine, and were also using traditional Chinese medicine to regulate their body.
Meng Wan stood at the entrance and casually stopped a waiter.
"Hello, which side is the restroom?"
"Please follow me." The waiter seemed relieved.
Meng Wan glanced at him, her movements subtle enough to go unnoticed.
"The public restroom on this floor is broken; you'll have to go to the next floor," the attendant explained in the elevator.
"Isn't the floor below a hotel room?"
"Yes, Mr. Hu took this into consideration and covered that floor to make it more convenient for guests to use."
With a flawless answer, Meng Wan raised an eyebrow, asked no further questions, and followed the waiter down the elevator.
"Here's your room key. Please feel free to use it."
"Only this one?" Meng Wan glanced at the room key in her hand and looked up at the waiter.
"Keep the other cards with the other waiters in case other guests need them." The waiter bowed, avoiding eye contact with Meng Wan the entire time.
"Okay, thank you."
The waiter nodded and returned to the elevator under Meng Wan's gaze.
The entire floor was empty; there wasn't a single person in sight. Meng Wan looked at the room numbers on her room cards and went from room to room.
The room was at the very end of the corridor, and the subtle arrangement made Meng Wan unable to resist curling her lips into a smile.
She twirled the room key and walked towards her target room.
With a "beep," I entered smoothly. The room clicked shut, indicating that it was locked.
Meng Wan walked in; the dim lighting created an ambiguous atmosphere. The room key card slot was already occupied; clearly, hers was a spare card.
The room was very quiet. When Meng Wan walked in, she bumped into Hu Lou, who was shirtless and wrapped in a towel, coming out of the bathroom.
Hu Lou seemed somewhat surprised when he saw Meng Wan.
"Miss Meng, what are you doing here?"
Meng Wan spread her hands, looking completely innocent.
"I should be asking you how you ended up here!"
In a moment of panic, then in a moment of composure, it seemed as if Hu Lou was the one who suffered the loss.
