"Does Wanwan usually avoid any certain foods?"
"I don't really like tomatoes." There was no feigned politeness; the conversation flowed naturally between the two.
“Then you take after your dad, but your dad doesn’t like that either.” Qin Yi said with a gentle smile.
"Is there anything you like to eat? Mom will make it for you."
The two women were holding hands, looking exactly like the mother and daughter they encountered on the street. Meng Wan noticed this, and a slight smile appeared on her lips, her gaze softening.
Meng Wan had been to supermarkets before, but this was her first time at a wet market. Watching Qin Yi skillfully greet the vendors and haggle over prices, Meng Wan couldn't help but imagine what it would be like if Su Yao were here.
Would she lower herself and haggle back and forth with the boss for a few cents' difference? Meng Wan shook her head, thinking that the other party was more likely to negotiate with the boss with a cold face.
A person who came from poverty and a person who fell from a high place have completely opposite personalities. One is assertive, the other gentle, which Meng Wan finds amazing.
In the crowded farmers' market, the sounds of people shouting and hawking their wares were so loud that you had to raise your voice to communicate unless you were whispering in someone's ear.
At first, Meng Wan found it novel, then she found it noisy, and finally she had no thoughts at all. She obediently followed behind Qin Yi, walking with her through the crowd and listening to her tell her which vendor sold things cheaper and which vendor would cheat on the weight.
When she came out, the noise around her disappeared all at once. Meng Wan took a deep breath, feeling inexplicably as if she had been transported to another world.
At this time yesterday, she was still fast asleep in one of the most luxurious hotels abroad.
"Isn't it too noisy?" Qin Yi quickly noticed Meng Wan's slight mood.
"I don't really like crowded places," Meng Wan said with a smile.
"I'm sorry, I thought you'd be bored being alone..."
"No, please bring me next time if possible." Unexpectedly, Meng Wan made this request.
Qin Yi was puzzled.
"It was quite fun to haggle with the vendors, and I even saw some things that I didn't see in the supermarket. It was really interesting." When she goes shopping, she usually just waits in the VIP room for the staff to bring her the styles she wants. This kind of occasion is a first for her.
Only after confirming that Meng Wan hadn't forced her did Qin Yi's expression relax.
"This market is the largest in the area, and it's also the last to close. The earliest market to close is one that starts selling around 4 or 5 pm and closes at 8 pm. I didn't know this when I first came here. I only found it because my neighbor, an old lady, told me about it."
Qin Yi's voice was light and cheerful as she told Meng Wan about the help she had received since arriving here, as well as her bargaining tips. Meng Wan would reply occasionally, and the two of them, each holding one side of the shopping basket, crossed the path and began their return journey.
While responding to Qin Yi, Meng Wan observed her surroundings to familiarize herself with the area, and caught a glimpse of a somewhat familiar figure.
"What's wrong?" Seeing Meng Wan stop, Qin Yi also stopped.
"That person...doesn't he look a lot like Dad?"
Following the direction Meng Wan pointed, Qin Yi also looked up. In just one glance, a hint of sadness appeared in her eyes, and the corners of her mouth turned down.
Meng Boqun sat on a bench downstairs in the residential area, dressed in a sharp suit with a briefcase beside him. His head was bowed, and the white hair on his head reflected the sunlight, making him look lonely and heartbroken.
"I'll go call..."
"Wanwan, shh." Qin Yi put her hand to her lips and shook her head slightly.
Meng Wan understood, withdrew her gaze, and she and Qin Yi quickly walked across the path.
"Wanwan, when your dad comes back later, don't ask him anything, okay?"
"I understand." Meng Wan was smart enough to realize that Qin Yi was protecting Meng Boqun's self-esteem.
It's not hard to imagine what a person in a high position would encounter if they suddenly went bankrupt and had to find a job again to support their family.
Meng Boqun must be feeling terrible right now.
Qin Yi's eyes showed relief, "The Tang family has taken good care of you. You've suffered a lot following us."
Meng Wan shook her head, but didn't mention her situation in the Tang family. The Tang family members were either heartless or insane; she was only able to act like a normal person thanks to someone.
When Meng Wan got home, Qin Yi was already in the kitchen preparing lunch. Meng Wan sat in a chair, replying to messages.
"Miss Meng, have you finished your official duties?" It was 10 a.m., and the other party was clearly very familiar with Meng Wan's biological clock.
"Are you mocking me now?" Meng Wan typed quickly, and the time she sent the message was 11:30. Even though an hour and a half had passed, the other party replied instantly.
"How dare I?" Yan Nian sent a kneeling and begging emoji.
Meng Wan curled her lips and sent a punching emoji.
"Looks like you're doing alright? Otherwise, you wouldn't have dumped two suitcases on me and relegated me to the sidelines."
Meng Wan said she was used to the other party's irresponsibility and simply sent an emoji to brush it off.
"When are you coming over?" The other party replied very quickly.
"I'll find some time to go there in the next couple of days."
"Shall we get you a new house?"
Meng Wan rolled her eyes, ignoring Yan Nian's sudden outburst. She got up and went to the kitchen, where Qin Yi casually tossed her a piece of meat. Her satisfied expression pleased Qin Yi, who rewarded her with another piece of meat.
"Mom, you should open a shop. It would definitely beat a five-star hotel."
"You have such a sweet tongue. Hurry up and set out the bowls and chopsticks, it's almost time to eat." Qin Yi patted her head, clearly not taking Meng Wan's words seriously.
