The next day, Meng Wan took Yan Nian back to the Meng family home.
Because it snowed the night before, Meng Zhiyao called to ask if Meng Wan would be coming home today.
Meng Wan originally planned to go home for a meal and then leave, but Yan Nian spoke up himself, saying he wanted to visit the Meng couple. After all, their daughter had stayed with him for more than a month, and although they didn't say it, they must have been a little worried.
"Are you alright?"
"Well, let me try your mother's cooking too." Yan Nian tucked Meng Wan's stray hairs behind her ear, his expression gentle, yet tinged with sadness.
Yan Nian's words left Meng Wan with no reason to refute them.
The four Meng brothers were all there today, sitting on plastic chairs that looked like high-end leather desks, which only made the living room seem even smaller. Of course, there was also Tang Li, who said he was there to freeload a meal.
Knowing that the two were coming back, the Meng couple closed their noodle shop and went to buy groceries early in the morning. They were busy in the kitchen at the moment.
It wasn't that the children didn't want to help; the kitchen was too small, and it was already a bit crowded for just two people. Any more would only make things worse.
Yan Nian sat in the living room with her legs together and her hands neatly placed on her knees. She looked obedient and awkward, completely unlike the domineering Yan Nian she usually was.
A pile of gifts was laid out on the table; it was clearly just a simple visit, but it felt like a marriage proposal.
“I saw you in my later years,” Meng Zhilian said, breaking the silence.
With the debut date approaching, Meng Zhilian was very busy, but knowing that Meng Wan was coming back, he still took an afternoon off and said that he would make up for the practice in the evening, which finally made Bai Liling let him come back.
Yan Nian nodded, "I didn't even get a proper greeting last time."
The conversation fell silent again, and Meng Wan finally came out of the room. She sat down naturally next to Yan Nian and patted his hand to signal him to relax.
"Wanwan, take a look at these floor plans. Do you like any of them?" Meng Zhili put the gifts on the table aside, making room for the floor plans in front of Meng Wan.
"Floor plan?"
“We took on a few cases recently, and the payments have all been settled. My parents and I discussed it and decided to move to a bigger house. My dad and I looked at a few, but we wanted to wait until you came back before making a decision.”
Meng Wan was somewhat taken aback, but she still picked it up and glanced at it.
"This is the set I found for you before."
When Yan Nian saw the second set, he suddenly spoke up.
"this?"
"Um."
Meng Wan remembered, but so much had happened afterward that she forgot. She looked up and saw her brothers staring at her with blank expressions.
She didn't read any further. The fact that Yan Nian chose this set naturally proves it's the best.
"I asked Yan Nian to help me find a new house before. I was going to tell you guys, but so many things happened and I forgot. I didn't expect that you would also choose this one. It seems that it's in the same building."
"Maybe this is what they call telepathy?" Meng Zhili smiled. "How about we settle on this one? We'll find someone to renovate it, and if all goes well, we can move in by the New Year."
Meng Wan nodded. "That area seems to be all Ji family land. We can contact the workers from last time for the renovation. They are Ji Sheng's men, very efficient and meticulous in their work."
They were the ones who did the last store renovation, so Meng's father naturally had their contact information.
“Okay, that’s what Dad plans to do too. I’ll post the progress and design plans in the group later, remember to check them, and just let me know if you have any ideas. We’ll do it your way.”
Meng Wan smiled and nodded.
Meng Zhiyuan was better at seizing opportunities than he had imagined, and was able to quickly gain recognition in the industry. Although Xu Zhengjin was part of the reason, it was mainly due to his own strong abilities.
“Speaking of Ji Sheng, we sat together at the sports meet, and he mentioned you too, praising you the whole time.” Meng Zhiyuan brought up a topic to get Yan Nian involved.
"Yes, we were neighbors before we moved. My father and his father were friends for many years."
"Wanwan told me you're helping out at Grandpa Chen's clinic? How's Grandpa Chen's health lately?"
"Yes, Chen Liu spends most of the time with him. I just go over on weekends to see if there's anything I can do."
The two children couldn't understand, but that didn't stop them from sticking close to Meng Wan. The Tyrannosaurus Rex yawned boredly and lay lazily on the ground.
The long-awaited scene, even if we just chatted about random things, felt incredibly precious.
"Kids, come and eat first."
Smelling the aroma of food, the Tyrannosaurus Rex got up and circled around Qin Yi. At this point, Qin Yi was no longer frightened by the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
She put down her chopsticks and stroked the Tyrannosaurus Rex's back.
"Good boy, your food is over there."
As if understanding, the Tyrannosaurus Rex consciously walked to the corner. Having come countless times, even the Tyrannosaurus Rex had its own special food bowl.
“Let’s go, try your Aunt Qin’s cooking.” Meng Wan stood up and extended her hand to Yan Nian.
Yan Nian grasped it, smiled, and stood up.
A group of people sat around the dining table, which was a little crowded, so they moved two small stools over and let the two children eat at the coffee table.
Tang Li was unwilling, and Meng Zhiyao was also unwilling, but she was more obedient than Tang Li. Under Meng Wan's patting on the head, she obediently picked up her bowl and sat down.
Seeing this, Tang Li had no choice but to follow, and Meng Wan patted his head as well.
"Yan Nian, right? He's really handsome."
"Hello, Uncle. Hello, Aunt." Yan Nian stood up, his movements revealing a hint of clumsiness.
Meng Wan smiled with her head down, but had no intention of helping out of the awkward situation.
"Sit down, sit down, don't be nervous, make yourself at home." Qin Yi smiled and gestured for him to sit down.
"If you don't mind, come over more often. Aunt Qin doesn't have much to offer you, just some home-style dishes. Try them and see if they suit your taste. Wanwan, put some food on Yan Nian's plate."
Qin Yi had asked Meng Wan beforehand, so the table was almost entirely filled with dishes that the two of them liked. However, Qin Yi still asked Meng Wan to serve Yan Nian instead of serving herself.
"How is it? Is it alright?"
Yan Nian nodded, "Wanwan said your cooking is excellent, and now I've finally tasted it."
Qin Yi was naturally pleased to be praised in her area of expertise.
"Eat more. Look at you, a grown man, how can you be so thin? It's okay, come to Aunt Qin's place more often, or go to the noodle shop, Aunt Qin will make you your favorite food."
"Yes, I come here to play chess and chat with my uncle when I have free time."
Yan Nian felt a lump in her throat, lowered her head, fiddled with the bowl and chopsticks, and nodded.
Meng Wan sensed Yan Nian's emotions almost instantly.
Under the table, Meng Wan gently patted Yan Nian's thigh, silently comforting him.
Although the change of seasons is a bit long, it will eventually pass.
