Chapter 98 Childhood Sweethearts, Innocent and Pure

"Oh dear, Miss, the young master said not to disturb him, so please don't knock on the door anymore, your hands are all red from knocking. I made your favorite cream cake, shall we go downstairs to eat?"

Aunt Liu tried to coax her, but no matter how she tried to persuade her, Xiao Tangwan just kept knocking on the door with her eyes reddening.

"Tang Qi!"

Just as Xiao Tangwan was about to knock again, the door suddenly opened. Due to the momentum, Xiao Tangwan fell straight inside, but fortunately Tang Qi caught her and pushed her out.

He opened the door just a crack, the room was dark, and the curtains were drawn, revealing only half of his face.

"Get out of the way," Tang Qi growled, his tone unusually impatient.

"Why don't you go?" Tang Wan pouted, trying her best not to cry, but tears still slowly welled up in her eyes.

Did I promise you I'd go? Don't flatter yourself!

Tang Qi's exposed eye showed no emotion. Although the two often bickered, Tang Qi had never spoken to her in this tone.

"Hiccup! Hiccup!" Little Tang Wan couldn't help but hiccup.

Tang Qi instinctively reached out to pat her back, but withdrew his hand as soon as he did.

He looked at Aunt Liu beside him, his tone becoming increasingly impatient.

"Take her downstairs now. I told you not to let anyone come here. If anyone knocks on my door again, you're all fired."

Aunt Liu was startled and kept apologizing. Without thinking of anything else, she picked up little Tang Wan, who was silently shedding tears and hiccuping, and went downstairs.

"I... hiccup... will never... hiccup... talk to you again..."

Tang Qi gritted his teeth and closed the door.

The dark room was a mess; everything that could be smashed had been destroyed, and the family photo that had been neatly framed was torn to shreds. No one knew that he had nearly died in the suburbs because of his best friend's jealousy.

The next day, Tang's father intervened, and he never saw his deskmate again. After that, although Tang Qi and Tang Wan would occasionally bicker, Tang Wan never invited anyone to participate in any of her school activities.

Tang Qi naturally wouldn't speak up, preferring to have someone broadcast the video and take photos, or to disguise himself and watch it. The matter was thus locked away, and no one mentioned it again.

-----

At 9:30, the sports meet officially began! Yan Nian and a group of investors sat in a designated viewing area, while the principal and directors stood on the stage delivering some tedious opening remarks.

The cannons fired, exploding in the air, and colorful ribbons slowly drifted down.

"Now, please welcome the students of Class 7, Grade 12! They are stepping..."

The host's voice echoed in the air as Meng Wan, holding a sign, calmly stepped onto the track and followed the team in front of her around the field.

"Zhilian, the one in the front is Wanwan, hurry up and take a couple more pictures."

"As expected of our child, Wanwan will definitely be amazing if she debuts."

It has to be said that the Meng family's children all inherited the best traits from their parents, truly demonstrating what it means to defeat the Meng family's genes—only the next child of the Meng family can do it!

Students entered one by one, their voices mingling and creating a somewhat noisy atmosphere. Some parents, sensing the excitement, took the opportunity to unfurl specially made support banners to cheer on their children, but most parents maintained the composure of those in positions of authority, sitting elegantly in their seats and watching, occasionally conversing quietly with those around them.

"Wanwan's looks are still stunning! At first glance, she's the absolute best in our class!"

"That's right! It's been three years, and Sister Wan is still unbeatable."

"Please let me be born like Sister Wan in my next life."

"How did she manage to be so powerful?"

"Human evolution has forgotten about us again."

After the neat and orderly formations finished marching, as the next class entered, some noise gradually rose from the ranks. Tang Zhiyi heard it all and gritted her teeth inwardly.

For some reason, every time someone praises Meng Wan, she feels that the other person is mocking her for being inferior to her! Anyone can be better than her, but Meng Wan is absolutely not!

After the opening ceremony, Fang Liang explained some important points and then had everyone sit in their respective class areas. They could leave once their events began to participate or cheer on their classmates.

Because of her leg injury, Tang Zhiyi didn't sign up for any events and quietly left the class. Apart from Sun Lu, no one noticed.

The competition proceeded as planned, spanning two days. The long-distance run was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, while today featured some standard and simple events. Meng Wan performed well in the high jump and long jump, giving her class a good start. After several rounds, she secured both championships.

Meng Zhiyuan and Meng Zhilian were even more nervous than Meng Wan during the competition. After everything settled down, they were so excited that they almost forgot to take pictures. Meng Zhiyuan, being the older brother, was more composed and quickly patted Meng Zhilian's thigh to make him take pictures.

She stood on the podium, but instead of looking at the audience, she looked towards the investors' area and waved to the young man.

Yan Nian's eyes were full of pride. Ignoring the puzzled looks from others, he raised his hand in response.

After Yan Nian responded, Meng Wan looked towards the audience and waved to the two Meng brothers. Meng Zhilian quickly took a picture, while Meng Zhiyuan responded to Meng Wan.

"Brother, didn't you think Wanwan was waving to someone else at the beginning? Like someone from that area." Meng Zhilian noticed something when he looked back at the photos.

Meng Zhiyuan looked at the screen and, just as Meng Zhilian had said, Meng Wan's first reaction upon receiving the award was to look towards the investment section.

"You know someone, right?" Meng Zhiyuan wasn't too surprised. After all, it seemed quite normal for something shocking to happen to Meng Wan.

Meng Zhilian understood his elder brother's meaning and nodded in agreement.

"She's probably looking at that kid Yan Nian. I was wondering why I didn't see him in the audience." The two brothers' voices were neither too loud nor too soft, so Ji Sheng, who was right next to them, could hear them and subconsciously chimed in.

"Yan Nian?" I vaguely remember hearing someone mention him at some point.

The two brothers sounded confused, and Ji Sheng knew that Meng Wan hadn't mentioned Yan Nian to them. Whether it was indifference or a feeling that it was unnecessary, Ji Sheng blinked, somewhat regretting interrupting.

But since he had already brought it up, he simply pointed it out to them.

"The one at the very top, and also the youngest, is Yan Nian. If you really want to know what their relationship is... childhood sweethearts, inseparable? But one thing is for sure: if Meng Wan had to choose between Yan Nian and you, she would definitely choose Yan Nian without hesitation."

The two brothers paused and looked at Yan Nian. Meng Zhilian then remembered that when Meng Wan came to the company for a meeting before, the person sitting next to her was the young man in the investment panel.

"Yan Nian is quite remarkable. He was able to take on the Yan family business at the age of 16, and in just two years, he led the Yan family business back to its former glory. If his father were still alive, he would be very proud, right?" Lan Zhenxie sighed.

"His father?" Meng Zhiyuan had a vague bad feeling.
