Chapter 79 Deliberately Pleasing
Two people sat opposite each other.
Zhou Yunjie lowered his head, silently picked up a strand of noodles with chopsticks, and quietly put it into his mouth.
The hot air blurred the distance between the two people.
Shen Zhiyu looked gravely at the top of her head, where there were two small swirls, quietly circling above her black algae hair.
Looks stubborn and arrogant.
"Why is there only one fried egg?"
Zhou Yunjie hummed and looked up at Shen Zhiyu, "I don't like fried eggs."
Shen Zhiyu nodded, "I thought you were trying to please me on purpose..."
deliberately?
To please?
Zhou Yunjie's eyes widened. "Why do you have to please me?"
"Didn't we fail to reach an agreement?" Shen Zhiyu said.
Zhou Yunjie said, "Before I came here, I thought I might be rejected by you."
Shen Zhiyu looked at her silently for a few seconds, "I thought you would be very disappointed."
Zhou Yunjie stirred the noodles in his bowl a few times, then suddenly put down his chopsticks and looked at the man opposite him with his chin propped up. "Did you reject me because of the woman on the phone just now?"
Shen Zhiyu also put down his chopsticks and leaned back in his chair, “No.”
"So... do you have someone you want to marry?"
Shen Zhiyu said with certainty, his scrutinizing gaze fixed on Zhou Yunjie like a substance, "Yes!"
Zhou Yunjie subconsciously curled her hand on the island counter, her nails scraping across the marble countertop, making a slight friction sound. She took a deep breath, then looked up at Shen Zhiyu, forcing a somewhat polite, even ugly smile on her face. "Congratulations."
Congratulations?
The corners of Shen Zhiyu's mouth curled up in a meaningful arc, and he looked at Zhou Yunjie with a smile, a bit of scrutiny, and even more of inquiry.
He leaned down slightly, resting his elbows on the counter, his gaze firmly grasping the woman opposite him like a hook. "You haven't answered my question yet."
Zhou Yunjie lowered his brows slightly, avoiding the man's gaze that seemed to see through people's hearts. "If you missed it, you missed it. Since it can't be undone, then let's move on. Everything in the world has its own destiny. Maybe... this is the path I should take."
"Only incompetent people would attribute all their unattainable things to the law of cause and effect." Shen Zhiyu's tone was cold and sharp. "Why did you suddenly figure it out?"
Zhou Yunjie was silent for a moment, then laughed self-deprecatingly, "Can I say it's because of money?"
A low laugh shook out from Shen Zhiyu's chest. Zhou Yunjie stood there in a daze. What was so funny about this?
"Is it funny?" she asked.
Shen Zhiyu leaned back in his chair, his eyes scanning Zhou Yunjie's face, as if trying to determine whether her words were true or false, and as if he was suddenly intrigued by her.
"You're very... candid."
Zhou Yunjie thought to himself, nonsense.
Compared with a shrewd old fox like him, can a little white rabbit like her hide her intentions?
He can go around in circles better than I can.
It would be more direct to state your purpose directly.
Zhou Yunjie shrugged. "I used to think that love was enough to satisfy me, but now I understand that money is the most secure thing in the world. Instead of relying on others for love and security, it's better to rely on yourself."
"Are you sure that marrying me now will get you what you want?"
"Whether you can get it depends on how valuable I am." Zhou Yunjie looked at Shen Zhiyu, "If you really have a secret that you can't tell, at least... it will be easier for me to get rid of it than others when we get divorced in the future."
Shen Zhiyu pursed his lips.
"That sounds... really good."
