Chapter 114 Gale

Chapter 114 Gale

Once the glutinous rice balls are fully cooked, scoop them into a small bowl and add two spoonfuls of soup.

The glutinous rice ball skin is soft, chewy, and bouncy, while the red bean filling inside is smooth, creamy, and very sweet.

I've always loved drinking glutinous rice ball soup. It has a subtle aroma of glutinous rice and a light, delicious flavor.

A few days after the winter solstice, I was sleeping at night when I suddenly heard a loud wind.

At first, I was sleeping soundly when I heard the sound of the wind, but when I heard a few unusual rooster crows, I was suddenly awakened from my dream.

I put on a cotton coat. The lights in the yard were out, so I had to turn on the windshield light and go outside to check.

The yard was a complete mess. The chicken coop had been overturned and blown to the center of the yard, where several chicks were huddled in a corner, clucking.

Straw and branches were scattered all over the yard, and the firewood shed that had been built before had also collapsed.

I immediately snapped out of my drowsy state, buttoned up my overcoat, and focused on rescuing the chickens.

I picked up a few chicks and ran back. The wind was so strong that I couldn't open my eyes. I could only squint and run into the house with my blurry vision.

The short distance of a dozen steps was extremely difficult to walk; I felt like I was being blown away by the wind.

It took five or six trips to finally bring all the chickens inside, and then we had to go back out to bring the chicken coop in as well.

The nailed-up chicken coops and firewood sheds were overturned on the ground, shaking in the wind. I felt sorry for the plastic sheets and wooden stakes, so I went out against the strong wind to try to drag the sheds into the windshield.

The plastic canopy can be brought in, but the canopy legs can't. So, I ruthlessly kicked the supporting legs of the canopy to break them and brought the canopy in first.

After bringing it in, quickly close the windshield door and stand inside the windshield to observe what other items outside might need to be rescued.

Seeing the swing chair in front of the window swaying back and forth in the wind, I made up my mind to go out and lay the swing chair down.

The swing chair is heavy and won't be blown away by a strong wind. The only concern is that a strong wind might tip it over and break it. If you lay the swing chair down beforehand, it won't break.

I ran back into the windshield to observe the outside. In just over ten minutes, the wind picked up even more, with gales flying everywhere. Straw from the yard and grass leaves from the mountain were swept into the air by the wind.

I looked at the pigpen with concern. Actually, the pigpen was quite sturdy, and the roof hadn't been blown off.

It doesn't seem to have any major impact, so I'm going back to my room to continue sleeping.

Looking at myself in the mirror, my hair was messy, piled up on my head like a bird's nest, as if I had suffered some great calamity.

He combed his hair, tied it up, and lay down on the sofa fully clothed to sleep.

With such strong winds outside, it's impossible to lie in bed and sleep. If there's any unexpected situation outside, I can just run out while wearing my coat.

But the sound of the wind was surprisingly hypnotic. Outside, the wind was howling, but inside it was warm and peaceful. Even lying on the sofa, I slept soundly.

The rooster in the kitchen was still crowing at dawn. I don't usually hear it clearly from outside, but today it was crowing right in the kitchen, and its crowing startled me awake.

The moment I opened my eyes, I suddenly remembered the fierce winds of last night. I quickly got up from the sofa and looked out the window. The weather outside was clear and cloudless, and the sun was shining brightly. If you ignored the mess in the yard, you might even doubt that there had been any strong winds last night.

Looking at the yard, which was like a ruin, he sighed deeply and said, "You can do this job." He did it without saying a word.

I went to check on the pigs in the pigpen first. The piglets were all safe and sound, so I could make breakfast in peace.

No need to go to the woodpile to fetch firewood; just grab a handful of straw from the yard and bring it back to the house. After breakfast, start the yard restoration mode.

First, gather all the firewood together, and then take out the firewood shed roof and chicken coop roof from the windshield.

The existing pit was dug deeper, the broken pillars were replaced with new ones, the pillars were reburied in the same way as before, and after reinforcement, the roof was put on.

It took most of the day to completely set up the woodshed and chicken coop; it was really tiring in the windy weather.

After tidying up, I used a large broom to sweep up the withered grass and leaves in the corner of the yard, creating a huge pile, which I guessed had been blown down from the mountain.

I pushed open the courtyard gate, ready to check if the outside had been affected by the strong winds.

When the door opened, everyone was stunned. The yard was filled with all sorts of dry weeds, stalks and leaves, almost blocking the gate completely.

I didn't find it troublesome at all; on the contrary, I was overjoyed.

This is all free firewood, and it's the kind that can be used as kindling. It will ignite instantly with just a spark, making it perfect for lighting a stove.

Find a few large burlap sacks, put on gloves, and stuff handfuls of dry grass leaves into the sacks. Once a sack is full, stomp down hard with your foot to create space for another half sack.

It took three sacks to clear the area in front of the courtyard. Looking to both sides, there were still many more in the corners of the courtyard walls.

I picked up my sleeves and kept working, gathering all the weeds and leaves from both sides of the courtyard wall. This was firewood delivered right to my doorstep, free of charge. Another day of lying down and getting free firewood.

After finishing all the work, I was starving and wanted to eat something to fill my stomach right away.

Go back inside, change out of your work clothes and into your home clothes, then start washing rice and cooking.

Rinse the rice thoroughly and place it in a clay pot. Add the water you would normally use for steaming rice, a few drops of oil, and heat it on a stove.

Go to the west wing and find a piece of smoked bacon and smoked sausage. Wash them with water, cut some into small pieces, and when the rice is almost cooked, put the bacon and sausage on top of the rice and steam them together.

The aroma of cured pork and sausage wafts out, indicating that the meal is almost ready.

Sprinkle with chopped green onions and cilantro, drizzle with a suitable amount of light soy sauce, cover, and simmer for a while.

Go to the kitchen to get bowls and chopsticks, and fill a small dish with pickled vegetables.

I've never tasted mulberry wine or cherry wine since they were first made, so it's time to give them a try. I went to the small west room and poured myself a small glass of mulberry wine.

By this time, the rice with cured pork and sausage was fully cooked, and it was served on the table for us to eat.

First, use a rice paddle to stir the rice with cured pork and sausage, so that the soy sauce, scallions, cured pork and sausage are fully mixed with the rice. You can smell the strong aroma while stirring, and you can't help but swallow your saliva.

A layer of crispy rice crust has formed at the bottom, which can be easily scooped off with a little force.

Put all the crispy rice crusts directly into the bowl, eat the crispy rice crusts first and then eat the rice, to prevent the crispy rice crusts from becoming soggy and not tasty.

The rice crust is golden with amber hues, and the rice has been fried in oil and then soaked in dark soy sauce, making it very appealing in color.

One bite reveals a crispy texture without being gritty, releasing a rich aroma of cured meat and rice crust.

The flavor was just right, and with a side of pickled vegetables, I ate a whole bowlful in no time.

After finishing the crispy rice crust, it was finally time to eat rice. A big bowl of rice with cured pork and sausage was scooped up, and the red sausage, white rice, and green scallions were intertwined and blended together, making it look very appealing.

I couldn't wait to take a big bite. The cured pork was very chewy and full of smoky aroma. The sausage was oily and fragrant, and became sweeter the more you chewed it. It was also spicy with the aroma of rice and scallions. It was filling and satisfying.
