Chapter 159 Courtyard Barbecue

Chapter 159 Courtyard Barbecue

After cutting off most of the fur off Xiaogua, it went from a muddy little dog to a dog-chewed little dog.

After I finished trimming the little melon's fur, I was covered in mud, so I had to wash myself again.

Little Gua is happy to spend the night outdoors tonight.

I led Tiedan and the three dogs back into the house, hugged the soft little Tiedan, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.

This little guy is very good at being cute and charming. When you hold him in your arms to sleep, he snores softly, which sounds very soothing.

Touching its soft little head, it fell asleep in no time.

No one would know that Little Gua, spending the night alone outside with his dog, was gazing sadly into the cold moonlight.

The next morning, still a little groggy, I opened the windshield and went out into the yard to stretch my body and breathe in the fresh air.

Seeing the big yellow dog chewing on its fur in the yard, I didn't react for a moment.

After I realized what was happening, I burst out laughing.

Xiao Di, Xiao San, and Xiao Si all ran out when they heard my voice, and they also saw the dog chewing on the fur.

The three dogs curiously surrounded Xiaogua, jumping and biting him, as if mocking his new look.

Little Guala rolled her eyes and ignored everyone.

When it was time to eat breakfast, I called the dogs into the house. When Xiao Gua looked in the full-length mirror, the whole dog was in a bad mood.

Seeing my soft fur gone, replaced by a scruffy, mangled coat, in the mirror, I became completely depressed.

I'm puzzled. If it's unhappy outside in the morning and it's not because of its appearance, then what could it be?

Is it just a dog spending the night in the yard?

That's too petty of them.

When the midday heat came in, I took a few dogs and hid in a dark room, where I sat on the kang table and read a book on traditional Chinese medicine.

After reading for less than 10 minutes, I got a little thirsty, so I put the book away, went to the refrigerator to get a watermelon, and went back to the dark room to eat it.

After eating watermelon, I took a nap, and when I woke up, it was already dark.

I sat up and spaced out for a while, then took the bucket of water and went out to water the vegetables.

As soon as I stepped out of the courtyard gate, I saw Sang Biao and the wolf pack.

I hadn't seen them for a while, so I quickly put the bucket of water at the entrance of the yard. The wolf king still drank first, and only after he finished did the other wolves dare to come forward.

They came to me for water because they couldn't find a water source when it got hot.

Just as I was thinking this, two half-grown wolves that had just finished drinking water ran up to me and rubbed against my legs.

Upon closer inspection, they appeared to be two cubs born to the mother wolf.

These two little ones were very close when they were little, and it seems they haven't forgotten me even now that they're a bit older.

When the wolf pack left, the two cubs showed no intention of leaving. The mother wolf approached them and negotiated with them before they finally followed.

After the wolves left, they filled the buckets with water and went to water the vegetables in the field.

Halfway through pouring the vegetables, I suddenly had a craving for barbecue. I have to say, since the apocalypse, apart from grilled meat, I haven't had a proper barbecue meal.

Let's have a barbecue tonight.

By the moonlight, I peeled two ears of corn that weren't fully ripe, dug out two small potatoes from the ground, pulled up two scallions, cut a bunch of chives, and picked some green peppers, eggplants, and green beans to prepare for a barbecue when I got home.

While hesitating between taking a large or small piece of beef from the refrigerator, I suddenly remembered that the pigs would be slaughtered in winter, and I should treat myself well. So I decisively chose a piece of beef with a good balance of fat and lean.

Cut the beef into long strips, then into small pieces. Add some ginger, garlic, scallions, light soy sauce, and oyster sauce, mix well, and set aside to marinate.

Leave a small piece of beef without marinating it; just skewer it directly. This is for the little gluttons.

Break the corn into small pieces, slice the potatoes, and skewer them onto barbecue skewers.

The green beans and bell peppers were washed and skewered directly, while the eggplants and chives were laid out on the barbecue grill.

Take a few small bowls and pour oil, garlic chili sauce, barbecue sauce, cumin powder, sesame seeds, honey, and barbecue seasoning into them respectively.

Finally, skewer the beef, light the charcoal in the grill, and start grilling.

A large bunch of beef skewers are placed on the barbecue grill, the sauce drips onto the charcoal, and a small cloud of smoke rises, accompanied by an enticing aroma.

The aroma alone was enough to make several dogs and kittens restless.

Once one side of the beef has browned slightly, turn it over to the other side, frequently flipping the skewers back and forth and brushing on a thin layer of oil from time to time.

When it's almost cooked, brush on a layer of garlic chili sauce. Once the garlic chili sauce has dried slightly, sprinkle on some cumin powder and barbecue seasoning.

The aroma immediately filled the air, making my mouth water.

Move the beef skewers to the side where the fire is less intense, and then grill the green peppers and green beans.

You can leave the green peppers and beans untouched after brushing them with oil. Pick up a beef skewer, blow on it a couple of times before eating, even though it's still hot. The beef hasn't been grilled for long, so it's very tender now.

It's juicy when you bite into it, and with the marinated meat seasoning, your mouth is filled with the aroma of barbecue.

After finishing two skewers, I flipped the green beans and bell peppers over and continued grilling.

The point of grilling skewers is to eat them as they're grilling; by the time all the skewers are done, the ones that were grilled earlier have cooled down.

The skins of the green beans and bell peppers are already wrinkled. Brush them with barbecue sauce and garlic chili sauce, and wait for the sauce to dry out. Then sprinkle them with barbecue seasoning, cumin powder, and sesame seeds.

The green peppers and green beans look soft, so they're ready to eat.

Place green peppers and green beans in a bowl, put a grill rack on the grill, spread two eggplants on top, and slowly grill them.

Sitting on a small stool, I enjoyed eating a large bunch of beef skewers.

The dog and cat sat next to me, looking on with longing. Seeing that the beef skewers were already cold, I peeled them off with my hands and fed them small pieces to the cat and dog.

This little bit of food is just a mouthful for them; it certainly won't fill them up. We can only feed them small pieces to satisfy their cravings.

After I finished my big bunch of beef skewers, I started eating vegetables.

The roasted green beans are soft yet crunchy, and you can even taste a hint of sweetness if you chew them carefully.

The roasted green peppers were full of the aroma of charcoal, oily and tender. The spiciness started to come from the middle, and the last bite of the green peppers was so spicy that it made you want to jump.

But the spiciness didn't matter; it was so addictive that I ate three chili peppers in a row.

The eggplant on the grill has softened. Flip it over, use chopsticks to separate the softened parts, spread garlic chili sauce inside, sprinkle with cumin powder and barbecue seasoning, and add some chopped green onions and cilantro.

Once the eggplant can be easily spread out with chopsticks, it's done baking.

The grilled eggplant was incredibly soft and tender, soaking up all the flavorful barbecue sauce; every bite was bursting with oily aroma.

Half of the roasted corn is made sweet, and the other half is made savory.

The sweet parts are brushed with honey and sesame seeds, while the savory parts are brushed with barbecue sauce and barbecue seasoning.

The sweet corn was incredibly fragrant with every bite, filling my nose with its sweet aroma, while the savory corn was also delicious. I ate six pieces of corn in a row.

I was a bit full by then, but I was still craving something sweet, so I ate some roasted chives and roasted potato slices, which were both quite good.

The dogs also love roasted potato chips; they cleaned up the mess I didn't finish.

After cleaning up, I took a shower and went to sleep even though I was very full.
