Chapter 162 Emergency Treatment

Chapter 162 Emergency Treatment

"I'm not lying to you. I really was sick a few days ago and only just recovered. I was thinking of you all, so I came over."

Hearing what I said, Aunt Liu felt a little relieved: "Then thank you for your hard work, sister."

"Go back inside quickly and conserve your energy."

Liu's wife obediently went back to the inner room and sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) looking at her unconscious brother Liu.

The medicine was being boiled over a high flame. When he saw that there was no firewood by the stove, he ran outside to find some. He saw a pile of firewood, not knowing whose it was, picked it up, and came back to continue burning it.

Another stove was lit, and water and rice were added to the pot to cook porridge.

After simmering over high heat for half an hour, the medicinal soup became very concentrated. Two bowls of the soup were then poured out to cool.

They made Sister-in-law Liu drink it, and she finished it in two gulps. Then they fed Brother Liu little by little.

Brother Liu was unconscious and couldn't drink from a spoon, so the couple had their own way of feeding him.

I asked Taozi for his address, grabbed a bowl of medicine, and ran there.

After knocking on the door for a long time, Taozi mumbled a response, but no one opened the door for a long time.

I put the medicine bowl aside, kicked the door violently a few times, and finally managed to kick it open.

Carrying the medicine into the bedroom, the room was very empty and looked very desolate. Taozi was lying alone on the kang (a heated brick bed), and he seemed to be in a daze.

I patted Taozi's face: "Taozi, wake up, can you hear me?"

Taozi frowned, slightly opened his eyes, and mumbled, "Sister..."

"Yes, it's me. Quickly drink the medicine."

As she spoke, she put her hand on Taozi's shoulder and pulled him up from the kang (a heated brick bed).

Since a person can't control his sitting posture, put your hand under Taozi's armpits, pull him to the wall, and make him sit against the wall.

She picked up the medicine bowl and came to his side: "Open your mouth quickly, you'll feel better after drinking the medicine."

Taozi was not fully conscious, but he still obediently opened his mouth slightly. I held the bowl to his mouth and slowly poured the medicine into his mouth.

Taozi swallowed unconsciously and drank the whole bowl of medicine.

They found a pillow on the kang (a heated brick bed) and helped Taozi lie down again.

"Wait for me a moment."

After saying that, he ran quickly to Aunt Liu's house.

Ladle out the rice porridge from the pot and place three bowls of porridge on the stove to cool.

"How are you feeling, sister-in-law?"

Liu Saoyao shook her head without speaking, indicating that the medicine had not yet taken effect.

Seeing that the two bowls next to Sister Liu were empty, I quickly asked, "Brother Liu, have you had any?"

"I drank it," Aunt Liu said weakly.

I helped Aunt Liu lie down slowly.

"You need to sleep for a while. Once you wake up, the medicine will take effect."

Aunt Liu obediently closed her eyes.

While the medicine was taking effect, I ladled all the medicine out of the pot, filling two iron basins to the brim.

Carrying a basin of medicine, I walked towards the center of the base and found the broadcasting room at the end of the corridor.

A pot of medicine was placed directly at the entrance of the broadcasting room, and I went in and fiddled with the broadcasting equipment for a bit.

When the microphone indicator light came on, I cleared my throat and heard the cough clearly coming from the loudspeaker outside. I began to speak: "Attention, attention, all residents who are able to move, please come to the entrance of the base center immediately. There is a decoction for treating infectious diseases here. Please take one bowl each."

He repeated this sentence three times and carried the whole pot of herbal medicine to the entrance of the base.

I waited for less than three minutes at the entrance of the base before someone came over with a bowl.

I went to the nearest office and found a tea mug. I scooped a whole mug of medicine into his bowl, and at my prompting, he drank the medicine in one gulp.

The second person to arrive surprised me greatly; it was the base commander.

The base elder looked even older, hunched over, and incredibly weak and pitiful.

He quickly scooped up a teacup full of medicine and poured it into the base chief's bowl.

"Please drink it quickly, this medicine is very effective."

The base commander didn't waste any words and drank the whole bowl of herbal soup in one gulp.

"Go back to bed and lie down. You'll feel much better after a good night's sleep. I cooked some porridge at Brother Liu's house and will bring you a bowl later."

The base commander nodded in acknowledgment and turned to return to his office.

Before the first person who took the medicine had left, he suddenly spoke up: "How about I help you here? My family... I'm all alone now. I see you can't manage, so everyone at the base should lend a hand if they can."

"That's great, please. One bowl for each person is enough. I'll bring you some porridge in a bit."

After handing the teacup to this man, I ran as fast as I could towards Brother Liu's house.

When we arrived at Brother Liu's house, we ladled out the entire pot of porridge, making two large basins. One basin was left at Sister Liu's house, and the other was taken to the Baizhen base.

After returning, he placed two bowls of porridge on Liu Sao's kang (heated brick bed), and took the other bowl of porridge to Taozi's house.

"Taozi, wake up."

Gently patting Taozi's face, Taozi slowly woke up.

I helped him up and leaned him against the wall, then fed him spoonful by spoonful of porridge.

Taozi ate cooperatively and didn't spit out a single bite. As long as he didn't spit it out, it meant that there were signs of improvement.

After he finished eating the porridge, we helped him lie down to continue resting.

When I arrived at the center of the base, the people helping me told me that only 11 people had come before. They watched as the people drank their medicine and took some porridge before leaving.

If only 11 people have been here, it means that quite a few people really died in the base.

I thanked the person who helped me and told him to go home and rest well. Then, carrying the medicine, I started knocking on doors one by one.

If there is a response from inside, let him come out and fetch a bowl of medicine.

Apart from those who had previously retrieved their medicine, there were 12 people inside who responded.

When we returned to Brother Liu, Sister-in-law Liu had already woken up, and there was only half a bowl of porridge left on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Are you feeling better?

"You're really feeling better. Your medicine really works, girl."

Aunt Liu looked much better; her complexion was no longer as sallow as before and had a rosy glow.

“Your brother Liu just woke up, drank half a bowl of porridge, and went back to sleep.”

"As long as I can eat, as long as I can swallow food, that's good."

I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard that Brother Liu had woken up again.

"How is Taozi? Have you been to see him?"

Aunt Liu inquired about Taozi.

"I've been there, given him his medicine and some porridge. I hope he gets better. I'll go check on him again."

After saying that, I went to see Taozi again, spinning around like a top between Brother Liu's house, Taozi's house, and the Baizhen base.

Two hours have passed since Taozi took his medicine, and he is still asleep. He seems to be sleeping more soundly than before, and his complexion is slightly rosy.

It seems this medicine really works. Let's pray that everyone gets better.

I was busy until dark, and my clothes were soaked with sweat. Taozi woke up and looked about the same as I did on the first day after taking the medicine.

It was time for me to go home. I filled a bowl with medicine and a bowl with porridge, placed them on Taozi's kang (heated brick bed), and told him to eat them all later.

I should go home now; there are still a bunch of livestock, cats, and dogs waiting for me there.

Upon arriving home, I barely had time to catch my breath before rushing to feed the pigs, chickens, ducks, and rabbits.
