Chapter 18 Chicken Coop Materials and Summary

Chapter 18 Chicken Coop Materials and Summary

On June 12th, I went to town again in the morning to buy the things I hadn't had time to finish yesterday.

Unable to find a suitable chicken coop, I remembered the wood processing factory; I could make my own chicken coop.

I found the gatekeeper and explained my needs to him. His eyes lit up, probably thinking that he was about to earn some extra money.

I can choose whatever I want for 50 yuan, but it can only fill one truck, and I have to come at night.

I didn't care about morality; all I was thinking about was stocking up on more that night.

First, go to town to buy some other materials.

I bought some wire mesh to fence off the chicken coop, and later, when the weather gets warmer, I can also use it to fence off the vegetable garden. I bought a total of 500 meters for 800 yuan.

Plastic fences, 10 pieces, used to separate the chicken coops, 100 yuan.

A round chicken coop woven from straw is placed inside for the hens to lay eggs. Ten coops are needed, and each one needs to be replaced every two years. The cost is 300 yuan.

Chicken coop fermentation beds are made of straw and other ingredients. They can effectively prevent odors, and chicken manure and moisture are directly absorbed in the fermentation bed. When it is replaced after a long period of use, it can also be used as fertilizer.

This was mixed by the farmers themselves, and it's much cheaper than online. I bought 10 sacks for 200 yuan.

Last time I went to the hardware store to buy tools, I forgot to buy a hammer, so I just bought 5 hammers and 200 large nails instead. I also saw that they were selling very sturdy plastic sheets, so I bought 10 of those as well.

After delivering the goods home, they returned to the town as it was getting dark and headed straight for the furniture factory.

After giving the old man 50 yuan, I started my self-service zero-yuan purchase for the day.

The dimensions of the wooden boards are estimated visually and may differ slightly from their actual size.

20 square wooden boards, each 1 square meter in size, are moved; 40 wooden boards, each 30 centimeters wide and 1 meter long, are moved; and 20 wooden strips, each 1.5 meters long and 10 centimeters wide, are moved.

Actually, that's about enough, but the old man said to put on whatever I wanted, and I couldn't let him down.

A rectangular column, 2 meters long and 20 centimeters wide, is just the right size for me to build a shed for the firewood.

The timber is too big, I'm sorry I only took 5 pieces.

As I was hesitating about whether to stop and leave, I suddenly saw some round and cube-shaped wooden blocks not far away, about 30 or 40 centimeters high. Wouldn't that be perfect for sitting on a small stool?

I took six of each item, a total of 12. I'll go back and polish and make them myself.

This solid wood stool must be very expensive if you bought it in a store.

Suddenly I realized that this was someone else's order. Would taking it cause a shortage of goods for the factory?

So when I drove up to the entrance, I asked the old man if I could take these small wooden blocks.

"It's alright, we don't have a very high inventory of these materials, taking a little won't hurt."

I thanked the old man and was about to go home when he continued talking to me.

"Is that all you're carrying? The truck isn't even full yet."

I was completely stunned; I thought I had gone too far.

"There's so much sawdust, even people wouldn't take it, do you want it?" the old man continued.

Sawdust is the powder that falls off when sawing wood, and it has many uses. It can be used as fertilizer, made into a fermentation bed for chickens, or even burned to smoke bacon. At the very least, it can be used as fuel.

"Yes! I want it!" I said eagerly.

The old man pointed eastward: "Over there, they're all bagged up. You can just take them away."

I drove over excitedly, intending to load up a lot. But it was just too heavy; it took a lot of effort to lift five sacks onto the car.

The car was almost full, and I reminded myself that greed knows no bounds, so I decided to retreat.

When we got to the door, I slipped the old man another 50 yuan. With so many things, 100 yuan was really too little.

With a look on the old man's face that said, "You're a smart kid," I drove away.

I didn't unload the car when I got home; I just washed up and went to bed.

Let's do it tomorrow, I'm too tired, too tired...

On June 13th, I stayed in bed a little longer in the morning and checked my recent bills again. After rounding down the amounts, I still had 100,000 left.

I was planning to set up the chicken coop today, but then I received a call from the delivery guy.

My last batch of online purchases has arrived.

They quickly unloaded the truck and, without much hesitation, drove to the town.

Upon arrival at the Cainiao Station, I simply scanned the QR code to pay 200 yuan, and the deliveryman and his wife quickly helped me load it into their car.

On my way home, I was driving while thinking about how to lift the batteries down. The two large-capacity batteries must be very heavy.

In the end, I decided to do it the same way as before: place a wooden plank at the back of the car and slide down it.

The battery is wrapped in foam, so it shouldn't get damaged.

When I got home, the first thing I did was move the batteries. They were much lighter than I expected, not even as heavy as a bag of rice.

After glancing at the order details, I discovered that the high-capacity battery only weighs 60 kilograms.

The basement was damp, and I was worried that storing the batteries there would affect them, so I placed the two batteries on the floor of the dark room.

The two batteries are 50×30×30 cm in size, and they don't take up much space when placed side by side against the wall.

The square shape doesn't detract from the aesthetics; on the contrary, it makes the darkroom seem less rudimentary.

The small storage battery is intended to be installed on the stationary bike generator.

When bored, riding a stationary bike and charging it directly with a small rechargeable battery is a great option for lighting or charging electronic devices.

The exercise bike was placed on the sunny side of the small west room, by the window. It felt very healthy to exercise while basking in the sun.

There's no rush to install solar panels. Placing them on the roof and letting them reflect light will make them easier for people to spot. Besides, there won't be much sun during the extreme cold and apocalypse, so we can wait until the extreme cold has passed before using them.

The remaining exercise bike and diesel generator gave me a headache. There was simply no room left in the room.

I want to keep the rest of the space to grow vegetables.

I opened it and checked it; the packaging was very secure, with the cardboard box completely wrapped in a foam box inside.

After much thought, I decided to put it in the basement.

After unpacking and inspecting the self-defense weapons and finding no problems, one of each type was left on the ground.

Put the rest back into their original packaging and place them on the shelves in the basement.

Because we bought a large quantity of seeds, they were all shipped in boxes.

They were all neatly placed on the shelves, and those that couldn't be placed were piled up on the floor in the corner against the wall.

The basement is now completely full, with 40 shelves neatly filled with various items, and sacks of grain and other items piled up neatly.

Although the basement was full, it didn't look cluttered after a long period of careful organization.

Because the shelves are all labeled with item categories, I can clearly remember which section it is in whenever I want to find something.

Sure enough, he was a serious hoarder. No matter how much physical work he had, he was always immersed in the joy of hoarding.

Finally, electronic products were left.

I opened and inspected each phone and music player, and after confirming that there were no problems, I put them all back into their original packaging for safekeeping.

The electronic products weren't planned to be stored in the basement; they were temporarily kept in the wardrobe in the small west room.

After removing the area where vegetables would be grown, the emptier parts of the entire house were the large wardrobes in the two bedrooms.

Apart from essential clothing and a set of bed sheets filling a large wardrobe in the east room, the rest of the room was empty.
