Chapter 184 The Strange Seeker

Chapter 184 The Strange Seeker

With the weather so cold that we can't go hunting, we naturally need to eat something warm.

But I can't feed them completely. What if the wolves eat and drink well in my care, become complacent, stop hunting for themselves, and rely solely on me for food?

One person can manage to raise four dogs, but if they were to raise a dozen wolves every day, they would probably run out of food.

Therefore, when the environment is harsh, providing appropriate assistance is just right.

As he turned to walk back into the house, his breath rose onto his eyelashes, where it condensed into frost.

When I got to the back of the house, I took off my gloves and hat, and there was ice on the brim of my hat.

After changing into light cotton clothes for home, I sighed: "I clearly agreed to live alone and relax, but now I have countless mouths to feed every day. I'm going to exhaust myself to death."

Despite saying that, her hands couldn't stop; she still had to cook something for herself, who hadn't had a drop of water.

Chop the cured pork ribs into small pieces with an axe, wash them in water, and soak a handful of dried green beans at the same time.

Heat oil in a wok, add chopped green onions and ginger slices and sauté until fragrant. Add cured pork ribs to the wok and stir-fry until fragrant, then add water.

Add various seasonings to the pot, then add dried green beans and simmer.

While waiting, one would squat by the stove to warm oneself by the fire. Once one was warm and cozy, the stove would be cleaned up, and the stew in the pot would be ready.

After a delicious meal of braised pork ribs with dried green beans, my stomach felt warm and comfortable, and the fatigue of daily life instantly disappeared.

The remaining half bowl of pork ribs stewed with dried green beans was placed in the breeding room, and it was simply heated up and eaten in the evening, completely adhering to his doomsday rule of not wasting food.

After feeding the pigs, chickens, and rabbits with the dishwater, I can finally relax on the sofa and feel better.

The weather outside began to darken, and the light inside grew dimmer, with the firelight from the fireplace slightly illuminating the area near the sofa.

I lay back on the sofa and placed Tiedan on my belly. Tiedan rose and fell on my belly with my breathing, and soon I coaxed him into sleepiness, and he started purring softly on my belly.

The left side of my body was warmed by the fire, and I began to feel drowsy.

When I woke up, the firelight had dimmed, but the temperature in the room wasn't affected much, and I was still warm and cozy on the sofa.

I stretched comfortably and took Tie Dan off me, placing it in the corner of the sofa.

This little lazy cat can sleep even longer than me. I've been sleeping for so long, and it's still sitting perfectly still on my belly.

After calming down a bit, I added coal to the stove and took the few unused shelves from the back room to the kitchen to wipe them clean.

First, take the vegetable basins from the east room outside, put the shelf inside the east room, and then arrange the vegetable basins in rows on it.

Ever since the dog knocked over the vegetable bowl last time, I've been thinking about how to make the east room more spacious and prevent the cats and dogs from knocking over them.

Just as I woke up, a brilliant idea suddenly struck me: put the vegetable basin on the shelf. The shelf can hold at least four shelves, which would save a lot of space.

Why didn't we think of this method before?

Four shelves were placed against the wall, and the vegetable basins were placed on them, which freed up a lot of space in the room.

Four full shelves of green plants stand against the wall, making the room look much more pleasing to the eye compared to the vegetable basins that used to cover the floor. It has a forest cabin feel to it.

Take out the pine cones that I had previously put away, tie them one by one with green yarn, and hang them irregularly on both sides of the shelf. They look exquisite and beautiful.

In high spirits, I watered the vegetable pot, hummed a little tune as I heated the kang (a traditional heated brick bed), preparing to boil water to cook food for the pigs.

Is anyone there?

"Help!"

Faint sounds came from outside the courtyard, sounding like a woman's cries for help.

Because the sound was quite far away, I wasn't sure if the sound I heard was coming from a woman.

If it really was a woman's voice, it would be very unusual for her to be able to call for help in this desolate place like my home.

Not daring to let my guard down, I put down what I was doing, quickly but carefully put on my thick clothes, and tucked the crossbow into my lower back.

At this time, only the kitchen light was on; the courtyard gate and the east room were completely dark.

Without turning on the lights, I went straight out through the back door of the back room and tiptoed around the threshing ground to the front gate.

Holding my breath, I hid behind the courtyard gate, listening to the sounds outside.

"There must be someone inside; the lights are still on in that room."

A woman with a sweet voice spoke softly.

"You've been calling him for so long, why hasn't he come out yet? I'm freezing!"

Another impatient female voice rang out.

"They probably didn't hear me because they were too far away. I'll call out a couple more times."

After saying that, the woman's shrill voice rang out again.

"Help! Please save me!"

The tone was convoluted, sounding as if it was deliberately trying to lure people out.

Logically speaking, if two poor women came to me, I would probably help them, but judging from their words, they didn't seem like kind people.

The woman called for help four or five times before stopping.

"There's no way he didn't hear it, could he be deaf?"

"What the hell is this bad luck? We've been eyeing this place for so long, and we've come all this way, but no one answers when we knock on the door."

The impatient woman sounded even more agitated, stamping her feet in the snow, whether from the cold or anger, it was hard to tell.

"Let's see if we can pry the door open first, then we'll go in and talk."

The woman with the sweet voice actually tried to pry open the door, and then there was a soft rustling sound coming from the door.

I have a lot of confidence in my door. Although it wasn't built with a lot of money, it's made of thick iron and the lock inside is very large. It can't be pried open with ordinary tools.

"Damn it! This family is really something else. The padlock ring is as thick as my thumb. Who can pry it open?"

The woman with the sweet voice fiddled around for a while, then also swore, her tone turning sinister and anything but sweet.

I stood behind the door listening, and my body started to get cold. These two are really resistant to the cold. I wonder where they came from and how they can stand outside in the cold for so long.

"Once I get inside, I'm going to kill him!"

The short-tempered woman said through gritted teeth.

The woman with the sweet voice replied, "You'd better take it easy. Don't do what happened the day before yesterday, where you cut my neck off and blood splattered into my mouth. It was disgusting."

These two are murderers and robbers... they came straight for me.

Hearing this sent chills down my spine. Luckily, Brother Liu helped me build a wall, otherwise I don't know how many times I would have died.

However, now that I know they want to kill me, my murderous intent has also arisen.

"Okay, okay, let's quickly figure out how to get in."

The short-tempered woman impatiently interrupted her.

The two were silent for a moment, then the woman with the sweet voice continued, "No, we can't get in anywhere, we can only climb the wall."

Then they heard a rustling sound of straw, presumably because they had taken the straw from next to the wolf den.

As for why the wolf pack didn't attack them, it's probably because they considered these two people to be like Brother Liu and his group—their friends—so they didn't make a move.

"Look here! There's something here!"

The irritable woman noticed the cotton curtain at the entrance of the cave dwelling and, judging from the sound, seemed to be pulling the sweet-looking woman towards the cave dwelling.
