Chapter 196 Big Chicken Leg
Chicken ribs, chicken necks, and other less palatable parts were put directly into a clay pot and cooked on the stove in the east room, following the usual method of making soup.
Chicken legs, chicken wings and other chicken meat are stir-fried in a large iron pot, stewed into a stew, and then a pot fork is placed on top to steam a portion of rice.
After the lid of the large iron pot was put on, the stove was wiped clean, and the floor was swept clean, the chicken soup in the house had already boiled.
Add a few red dates, two morel mushrooms, and a handful of goji berries and continue simmering. The whole house is filled with the delicious aroma of chicken soup.
Even with the most tempting comic books, Mancang's little eyes couldn't resist and started glancing towards the stove.
Four dogs and a cat sat in a row not too far from the stove, gazing longingly at the casserole and swallowing their saliva.
If it weren't for the large amount of food stored at home, we really wouldn't be able to feed these mouths.
"Aunt Cheng, it smells so good!"
Mancang couldn't resist any longer and took a deep breath of the fragrance in the air, exclaiming in amazement.
"Let's try it later and see if it tastes good."
How could a chef not be happy to hear praise? Hearing Mancang say it smelled delicious filled me with immense satisfaction. I was determined to make this soup perfectly so that Mancang could have a good taste.
He took a few steps back and sat on the sofa, then picked up Xiaodi and held him in his arms.
I've been so busy lately that I've neglected my dearest daughter. I'm determined to spend some quality time with her today.
Little Di stared at me with his round little eyes, motionless, letting me touch him all over.
I described its little eyes, little nose, and wet nose; it was a fragrant little puppy no matter how I touched it.
Now Tie Dan'er's figure is already resembling that of a pig, and right now it's because I'm holding Xiao Di and lying in the corner of the sofa, fuming about getting fat.
I called out softly, "Tiedan'er?"
Iron Egg didn't budge, but its slightly tilted little ears gave it away. It seemed it was really angry and didn't want to respond even though it heard.
But his round figure was really funny. I pinched Xiao Di's paw and poked Tie Dan'er. Tie Dan'er frowned and turned around, his face full of murderous intent, which made me laugh out loud.
Mancang stopped reading and focused intently on watching me play with the cat and dog. Seeing this, she couldn't help but ask, "Aunt Cheng, do you really like this dog? Why are you only hugging it?"
I pinched my little brother's ear and introduced him to Mancang: "This little dog is called Xiaodi. He's very well-behaved and loves me the most. The others... are all dogs."
Mancang probably didn't understand my abstract explanation, but he chuckled along with me.
This child has a bit of a people-pleasing personality right now, but that's okay. Give him more love, and he'll get better.
After enjoying the little place to the fullest, it was time to eat.
Go to the kitchen, wash your hands, lift the pot lid, take out the rice bowl, and serve the stewed chicken that has been braised until it's fragrant and crispy.
The thick sauce coats the whole chicken leg and the crispy little mushrooms. I deliberately didn't chop the chicken leg today, because I wanted Mancang to experience the joy of having a whole chicken leg.
Since this was our first proper meal together, I sprinkled some chopped green onions and cilantro on top, making the stew look even more appetizing.
Mancang still has difficulty walking and plans to continue eating at the kang table.
"Dinner's ready!"
He quickly carried a small pot of stewed chicken to the kang table. Tie Dan, who was lying on the kang, was completely stunned when he saw the pot of stewed chicken.
As she slowly sat up from the covers, she exclaimed dramatically, "(⊙o⊙) Wow, so much meat!"
"Haha, just keep eating, you won't make a sound once you start."
He turned back to the kitchen, grabbed some bowls, chopsticks, and rice, and when he returned, Mancang hadn't yet gathered around the kang table.
Yes, he's a very well-behaved and sensible child.
A heat-resistant mat was placed on the table, and a whole pot of chicken soup was also brought out.
First, use a soup spoon to scoop out a bowl of clear, slightly yellow chicken soup, with a thin layer of oil floating on top, which looks very nutritious.
"Be careful, it's hot. Drink the chicken soup first."
"Thank you, Aunt Cheng."
Mancang looked at the bowl of chicken soup in front of him, picked it up and took a sip, then stuck out his tongue from the heat.
"Oh dear, didn't I tell you to be careful of the heat?"
Mancang chuckled sheepishly, "Hehe, Aunt Cheng, I've never eaten such hot food before. I'll be more careful next time."
Oh, I shouldn't have spoken so loudly...
How could a child who has never even eaten a hot meal know to be careful of being burned!
Once the chicken soup had cooled down a bit, Mancang drank it sip by sip: "Aunt Cheng, this chicken soup is so delicious. Is chicken soup made by boiling chicken meat?"
I'm used to Mancang's cluelessness, so I patiently explained, "Yes, soup made with chicken is chicken soup. It's very nourishing for injured people and can help them recover."
After saying that, he picked up the huge chicken leg from the vegetable bowl and put it into the full bowl: "Here's a whole big chicken leg for you. Remember, you always deserve to eat chicken."
As soon as I said that, I regretted it. The little boy who was just happily drinking chicken soup suddenly had tears in his eyes.
Tears streamed down my face, falling into the bowl of chicken soup.
"Oh dear, don't cry. I spent so much time making this chicken soup, how can you drink it if you cry!"
I frantically wiped away Mancang's tears across the table.
When Mancang heard me say that, he stopped crying halfway through: "I will finish it, even if I shed tears."
She finished speaking and continued crying.
I sighed helplessly and could only continue to comfort him: "Don't cry, okay? The chicken leg will get cold soon."
With a sob in her voice, she said, "Aunt Cheng, you are the best person to me in this world. Since I can remember, no one has ever given me chicken to eat, let alone chicken legs."
"More people will be kind to you in the future. Every time Aunt Cheng stews chicken, she will save a chicken leg for you... Of course, you also need to become strong yourself, until one day you can earn your own chicken leg."
The little boy listened to my words and nodded heavily, the tears still on his face being shaken off by the gesture.
"When I become strong, I'll give Aunt Cheng a chicken leg too."
Wiping away the last of Mancang's tears, he said, "Your task now is to take good care of yourself and get back to your best. Eat up, or the chicken legs will get cold."
Mancang grabbed a chicken leg that was bigger than his small hand and stuffed it into his mouth. The chicken was now stewed until it was tender and soft. He took a big bite and chewed a large piece of tender chicken leg meat.
"It smells so good!"
Mancang ate with his head bobbing and swaying, praising loudly.
This guy looks so hungry while he's eating; it's influenced me, and I've started to have a big appetite too.
The two of them each had a big chicken leg, their mouths dripping with oil, which made the dogs on the ground spin and jump around in their eagerness.
Unfortunately, Mancang was still young, and even though the two of them ate heartily, their fighting power wasn't very strong, and they didn't finish the whole chicken.
A woman with a large belly leaned back and chuckled foolishly, "Hehehe, Auntie, I've never eaten so much before, this feels so good."
