Chapter 253 Selling Bread

Chapter 253 Selling Bread

The crust is caramel-colored, and as it heats up, the deep red bean paste oozes out, contrasting beautifully with the creamy yellow interior of the bread, making it look absolutely delicious.

Tear open the packaging and break it into three pieces.

My movements were too quick, and by the time Aunt Liu tried to stop me, I had already completely bent the rope.

"Hey, wait! Girl, what are you doing? This is for sale, why did you break it apart?"

"Oh, these are all our own food, take them and eat them without paying any money."

I handed one piece to Brother Liu and Sister-in-law Liu, and kept one for myself.

One bite reveals a slightly crispy outer crust and a soft bread inside. The sweet red bean paste blends with the wheat aroma of the bread, creating a lingering sweet fragrance on the palate.

"It smells so good! This girl is really good at everything she does."

Seeing Brother Liu and Sister-in-law Liu enjoying their meal made me feel even more satisfied.

As the group was enjoying their meal, someone suddenly stopped in front of the bread stall.

She was an old lady.

He appeared rather short due to his extreme thinness.

Her head was full of silver hair, and every single strand was meticulously combed and tied back.

His clothes had many patches, but they were neat and clean.

"How did you exchange this bread?"

The old lady's voice was somewhat cautious.

"It depends on what you're offering in exchange. I'll exchange it if I need it."

I swallowed the last bite of bread and answered with a smile.

The old lady glanced behind her and asked, "Little one, do you want some?"

That's when I noticed there was a child standing behind her, not very tall, about the same height as when Tuantuan first came to my house.

This little guy is much thinner than Tuantuan; he's skinny and his skin is very dark.

But his eyes were very big and bright.

He listened to the old lady's words but did not answer immediately. He glanced at the bread a few times and said crisply, "I don't want to eat it."

The old lady clearly wanted to eat it, and she probably noticed that too. She stopped talking to the child and looked down at the bread in front of my stall.

The child grabbed the old woman's thin hand and urged, "Grandma, let's go. We'll go home after we buy the salt, or it'll be dark by the time we get home."

But the old lady let the child hold her hand and stood still.

After thinking for a moment, he looked up and asked me, "Do you want soybeans and millet?"

Although I really wanted to sell it to her, I didn't need any soybeans or millet.

I shook my head apologetically: "Sorry, I don't need either of these."

Upon hearing this, the old lady's eyes dimmed.

Undeterred, she looked up and asked me again, "I also have hazelnuts and walnuts, do you want them?"

Walnuts? I haven't eaten those things in years.

It would taste really good if some walnuts were added to the nut brittle.

Although I had heard of farmers growing walnut trees before, I had never seen them in person. I never imagined that there were actually walnut trees in Inner Mongolia.

"Yes, walnuts and hazelnuts are both fine!"

Although there are plenty of hazelnuts on the hill behind my house, we ate them all in one winter, and we can't get any in spring and summer. It would be nice to be able to exchange them for some hazelnuts.

Upon hearing this, the old lady immediately beamed with joy, her wrinkles crinkling together: "Wait for me!"

She waved her hand and led the child slowly back the way she came.

I looked up and waited, but the old lady didn't come back after a long time.

During this time, many people would glance at the exquisite bread on the basket as they passed by, but as soon as they met my gaze, they would quickly look away and walk away.

Brother Liu, who had already replaced the pork, said anxiously, "These people really don't know what's good for them! Such delicious and beautiful bread, why don't they come and exchange it!"

Aunt Liu glared at Brother Liu and tentatively suggested to me, "Could it be that the bread looks too good to them? Why don't you try advertising it?"

Aunt Liu's words made me realize something. I stood up, stomped my legs which had gone numb from sitting, and shouted loudly.

"Bread, freshly baked this morning! Made with goat's milk! Made with egg whites and sugar! There's even red bean paste filling!"

Seeing that my hawking was not going well, Aunt Liu stood up and shouted loudly, "Bread, all kinds of bread, cheap sale, cheap sale!"

Upon hearing the word "cheap," everyone gathered around.

I secretly gave Aunt Liu a thumbs up in admiration; it turned out she meant it was cheap.

How much is this bread?

The woman at the head of the group, dressed in a decent manner, asked while carrying a basket in her hand.

I replied exactly the same way: "It depends on what you're offering in exchange!"

Salt? Sugar?

The old woman asked tentatively, perhaps thinking that such exquisite bread must be exchanged for salt or sugar.

I waved my hand and said, "No need, no need. I don't need salt or sugar. Just tell me what you have, and I'll replace it with whatever I need."

At this point, more and more people gathered, forming several layers inside and out.

A tall man standing on the outer layer used his advantage to see the few loaves of bread inside.

He asked loudly, "Do you want some honey?"

Honey! Absolutely!

"Yes! I want honey!"

When the man heard that I wanted some, he pushed his way forward, holding a large jar of honey in his hand.

He stretched out his hand: "This is honey produced by our own bees. This is all we have left. How many can we exchange for?"

This huge jar of honey could bake bread dozens of times and still not be used up.

However, goat milk, white sugar, and white flour are also very precious. I thought about it for a moment and said, "Six?"

Most people probably don't have a concept of exchanging bread, so the man paused for a moment and then said cheerfully, "Okay, take whatever you want."

Everyone saw that I only had 6 loaves of bread on the stall, and the man immediately agreed to exchange them for 6, which immediately caused a commotion.

"Oh, you sold them all at once?"

"What's going on? They can cut in line and buy everything right away? We want to buy some too."

"Waaaaah, Mom, I want to eat too! I want to eat too!"

The scene became quite chaotic for a time.

Brother Liu was the first to come to his senses and shouted, "Hey, stop arguing, everyone take your time, there's still some left in this bucket."

As he spoke, he lifted the lid, revealing that most of the basket of bread was inside.

Everyone was relieved.

"I only have six styles in total, shall I take one of each to try?"

The man's eyes lit up when he heard this, indicating that he thought it was a good idea.

We had a lot of plastic bags at home before, and they're still working great.

A dozen brand-new plastic bags were taken out of the bucket.

She squeezed open a plastic bag, carefully packed six loaves of bread inside, and handed it to the man.

"Oh my, there are new plastic bags too, how stylish!"

The hushed chatter of the group reached my ears.

That's a must; the main focus is on a trendy and fashionable look.

"Should we change the blueberry jam?"

I haven't eaten blueberries in a long time. I can't believe someone can grow them. I wonder if their blueberry jam is any good.

"Can I open it and smell it?"

When I made the request, the person simply handed me the blueberry jam.

Instead of smelling it directly after unscrewing the lid, I fanned my nose with my hand. The rich aroma of blueberry jam instantly brought back memories of the taste of blueberry yam.
