Chapter 256 Good News

Chapter 256 Good News

A few days later, all the vegetables and grains were planted in the soil, but the weather had not yet gotten hot.

I learned from Brother Liu that many residents of the Baizhen base came to my town to clean up their houses and prepare to settle down here.

Having just finished my work and having some free time, I decided to go to town myself to take a look.

They filled two large bottles with water and loaded all the dry rations onto the donkey cart.

Little Corn pulled the cart, and I sat on the donkey cart with four dogs, slowly making our way to town.

The weather in early spring is neither too hot nor too cold, and an occasional breeze blows by, dispersing some of the warm air.

This country road leading to the town is absolutely beautiful.

Both sides were lined with weeping willows that had just sprouted tender buds, and a layer of tender green grass had also emerged from the ground, somewhat like a picture in an elementary school textbook.

I patted Xiaodi's head, poured the water from the water bottle into the empty bowl on the donkey cart, and held it to its mouth.

Little Di tilted its head back and looked around. When it saw the water offered to its mouth, it drank it happily.

Before Xiaodi could finish drinking, Xiaogua, Xiaosan, and Xiaosi suddenly stood up and squeezed towards the water bowl.

The chubby little creatures made the donkey cart shake for quite a while.

"Slow down, slow down."

We've only been out for a short time, and I don't think they're thirsty; they just like to join in the fun.

After a while of rocking and swaying, we finally arrived in the town.

The town is not as deserted as it used to be; you can see a few people coming and going from the houses.

Occasionally, if I run into someone I've met before at the Baizhen base, I'll say a few words and say hello.

While driving, we unexpectedly spotted Brother Liu and Sister-in-law Liu near the Curtain World.

"sister in law!"

I called out to my sister-in-law loudly and led the donkey cart toward her.

"Hey girl, what brings you here?"

It seems like Aunt Liu says this every time she sees me.

"I heard that some of your people will be moving to this town, and they come here from time to time to see if they can run into you."

Aunt Liu put down what she was holding, wiped her hands on her worn apron, and pulled my arm to lead me into the house.

"Look, this is the house that Aunt Liu chose."

I went inside and looked around.

Upon entering the house, you'll find a large living room, which is quite spacious with a large sofa on the floor.

I immediately praised it, saying, "This sofa is really nice."

"Oh dear, this sofa was picked up from another house by your brother Liu. It took us a lot of effort to move it."

"It's worth the effort!"

"All the rooms looked empty, and it took us a long time to find this sofa."

"Of course, over the years, it's basically all been emptied out."

I continued reading while replying to Aunt Liu.

There are two bedrooms on the east and west sides of the living room, similar to my home. The bedroom on the east side is very large and spacious, while the bedroom on the west side is smaller.

There is another door on the north side of the living room; pushing it open leads to the kitchen.

The kitchen has a door on the east and a door on the west, and each door leads to a storage room.

I guess one is for storing grain, and the other is for storing miscellaneous items.

The house has a good layout; it's large, spacious, and very clean.

"This house is really nice. When are you planning to move in?"

"We haven't decided on a specific time. We'll just move them here whenever we're not working."

I couldn't help but wonder, "Where will the land be planted this year?"

Aunt Liu explained, "They're still planted over there. This is the last time we'll plant them this year. Next year, we'll plant them behind this town."

That's good. We can start by packing up this year, and then move over completely once the grain is harvested.

"That's great! We'll be closer to each other now and can see each other more often."

I'm still very happy. Living alone for a long time makes me want to see Aunt Liu. Now that we live closer, I can come and visit more often.

"Yes, it won't take long to get there by donkey cart, and then I can visit your house more often."

Aunt Liu replied to me with a smile, and she seemed very happy.

"But if the base's personnel are dispersed, won't the scale become too large?"

I still can't understand how a base could just disband like that.

"There are too many people at the base, and not enough land to cultivate. If we live separately, we can harvest more grain."

Wow, so that's how it is. I really didn't expect that.

Since Aunt Liu and the others were busy here, it wasn't convenient for them to cook. I stayed for a while and then rushed home.

Halfway there, the satellite phone rang.

"Want to come to the Eagle Base? Chengcheng."

Sumi's voice carried a hint of excitement, suggesting that something good was about to happen.

"Hmm...that works too."

I saw that it was still early, and since we were already in town, going to the Eagle Base was fine.

Sumi, for some unknown reason, hung up the phone in a rather strange manner.

After a long ride in the donkey cart, I started to feel sorry for Little Corn. Finally, we arrived at the Eagle Base.

Looking at the imposing gate of the Eagle Base, it really is tall; you have to look up to see the top.

In recent years, the Eagle Base has grown stronger and stronger, with a large population and increasingly powerful combat and productivity capabilities.

However, this does not mean that the Baizhen base is bad; it simply means that the two bases have different objectives.

I got off the car and led Little Corn. The small donkey cart stopped at the entrance of the Eagle Base, looking rather tiny.

However, the security guard recognized me. He greeted me with a big smile and opened the door eagerly.

I nodded gratefully and led Little Corn inside.

I have to say, having Sumi as my best friend is really great. She spread my identity throughout the entire Eagle Base, and no one stopped me wherever I went, giving me plenty of face.

The Eagle Base is bigger now. I moved Little Corn to a specific parking shed.

As soon as I approached, someone came up to greet me.

An elderly man in his sixties helped me unload the donkey cart.

"I'll take it to eat some grass and drink some water."

The old man took the reins of the little corn and said in a businesslike tone.

"Then I'll trouble you to give it a little space to rest for a while."

After instructing Little Corn on the way, I led the four dogs further in.

I walked easily to Sumi's villa, where she was sitting on the steps waiting for me.

When it saw me, it suddenly jumped up from the steps.

"You're here, Chengcheng! I've been waiting for you for so long!"

She shouted excitedly, looking like a little child.

Actually, Su Mi is not young anymore. She was more composed when they first reunited, but now she has returned to her carefree self.

"You didn't just invite me here to sit down, did you?"

I walked up with a smile and asked directly.

Sumi covered her mouth and smiled, her eyes full of slyness.

You'll find out in a moment.

After entering the villa with Sumi and having some tea, the sound of a broadcast came from outside.

"Dear residents of the Eagle Base, there is an important announcement to be made at the base. Please move to May Fourth Square for the meeting."

The announcement came on three times, and I looked at Sumi with a face full of questions.

Sumi stood up and patted her slightly wrinkled clothes: "Let's go."
