Chapter 27 The Last Reserves 3

Chapter 27 The Last Reserves 3

On July 7th, there's one last item left: frozen fruit and the candy I suddenly remembered last night.

The first thing I do after getting up is still to heat the kang (a traditional heated brick bed) and take care of the chicks.

After getting everything ready, we drove to the county town.

I plan to spend all my money today.

I parked the car directly at the large supermarket in the county town. The supermarket was much busier than usual today.

It seems everyone has sensed the unusual temperature and started stockpiling goods.

Only then did I belatedly realize that I had overlooked the possibility of catching the peak of stockpiling.

However, the real peak season is when there is heavy snowfall.

There aren't that many people like that right now.

And luckily, what I needed happened to be outside of peak hours for most people.

Only the rice, flour, cooking oil, vegetable, and fresh meat sections were a bit crowded, requiring queuing.

Frozen food stalls were a bit crowded, so there was no need to queue, while sugar and fruit stalls were practically empty.

First, I bought the sugar: 300 bags of granulated sugar (1kg each), and 100 Snickers chocolates each.

Then buy fruit based on shelf life and personal preference.

5 boxes of apples, 10 boxes of pears, 20 coconuts, 10 boxes of oranges, 20 pomelos, and 100 lemons.

It seems like these are the only fruits available for purchase. I'm planning to buy some dried fruits and nuts as well.

20 jin of pine nuts, 100 jin of sunflower seeds, 50 jin of pecans, 20 jin of dried longan, 20 jin of raisins, and 50 jin of dried red dates.

The estimated cost is around 8,000 yuan. I asked the staff to take these items to the front desk to calculate the bill, and then let me know the total price after they have done so.

Then we went to the freezer section.

The frozen food section was almost empty because other people had taken most of it, and I was too lazy to take it all myself, truckload by truck.

I simply asked the staff and told them the quantities, and they took them out for me.

There are 12 kinds of hot pot meatballs, including beef meatballs, fish tofu, and osmanthus sausage, and you need three large bags of each kind.

20 packs each of the following products: Crispy Pork (semi-finished), Chicken and Bone Skewers, Sesame Balls, and Fried Chicken Strips with Yogurt.

10 packs each of sausage knots and bacon, 30 packs each of volcanic rock sausage and Taiwanese sausage, and 100 vacuum-packed steaks.

10 packs each of frozen scallion pancakes, stuffed pancakes, steamed buns, and zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and 100 bags of wontons.

Then we went to the refrigerated section.

100 pieces of duck blood, 100 packs of cold noodles, and 50 bags each of fresh lotus root slices, bamboo shoots, and konjac knots.

With the goods I sold previously, I estimate that I've almost spent all my money.

The total bill was 19,000 after checkout.

I asked the staff to help me load the truck at the front while I continued shopping inside.

Due to recent large expenditures, my Alipay credit limit has reached 30,000 yuan.

I plan to spend this 30,000 yuan directly, heading straight for high-end goods at the supermarket.

People tend to stock up on affordable pork and beef, rarely on premium beef.

I didn't buy too much at the Japanese restaurant last time, so I'll buy more premium beef today.

50 jin each of beef short ribs, beef belly, beef brisket, beef chuck, and diaphragm, totaling exactly 10,000 yuan. It's definitely much cheaper than at Japanese restaurants.

Then buy some other meat.

I love fried chicken, but the chickens I make at home are always tough and overcooked. Only young, tender chickens from farms are suitable.

Then I went to the chicken section to choose.

100 jin of chicken wings, 100 jin of chicken legs, 100 jin of chicken wing tips, 100 jin of chicken feet, 50 jin each of chicken gizzards and chicken hearts, and 100 young chickens from the farm. Total cost: 10,000 yuan.

I went to the prepared food section and bought some cooked food: 50 braised pig trotters, 50 braised pig livers, 50 jin of pig head meat, and 100 jin of frozen shrimp.

After paying at the front desk, I still had 5,000 yuan left in credit.

I started checking what I needed in the supermarket and finally picked out the items I required.

The free barbecue skewers from my online purchase weren't enough, so I bought 300 more metal skewers.

I've stocked up on breadcrumbs for fried chicken, marinades and dipping sauces for barbecue, as well as various stew packets and sweet and sour sauces.

I also bought a smaller quantity of fresh fruits and vegetables with short shelf lives to eat in the next few days.

In the end, I bought all sorts of snacks and pickled vegetables that I hadn't tried much before.

Then when I went to pay the bill, I found that I had 1,000 left, so I decided not to spend it and to keep it as reserve funds.

I spent 50,000 yuan today, and the manager greeted me and gave me some free gifts.

They said they were trial packs from brands he collaborated with. There were food items, health supplements, and kitchenware.

I didn't look at it carefully; I plan to study it slowly when I get home.

Then I drove home with a truckload of goods.

Although we spent a lot of money today, most of the items were quite expensive, so we managed to load the whole car with them.

As I was getting ready to leave, the supermarket became increasingly crowded; I guessed it was full of people who had just finished get off work and were there to stock up on goods.

The weather is getting colder and colder, and apart from the supermarket, there are hardly any people anywhere else.

I can even breathe out air.

When I got home, I was about to put the meat in the back room when I realized there were no storage cabinets available.

Move the fruits that are susceptible to freezing into the sunny side of the small west room, and leave the other meats outside. Since it's definitely below freezing outside now, there's no need to worry about them spoiling.

I first lit the fire with firewood, and then used the stove next to me to cook myself a bowl of rice noodles.

I added some greens and hot pot meatballs that I bought today. It was fragrant and spicy, and I worked up a sweat after eating it.

Because I didn't want to use my writing desk, I realized that I could only eat on the kang (a heated brick bed), and I was missing a floor table.

When I go to town to buy a storage locker tomorrow, I'll also buy a low table.

When I was getting ready to go to sleep that night, I discovered that another yellow chick had died, and now I only have 18 left.

It's normal to find out online that many chicks are born weak and sickly.

After taking a nap, I quickly went to town to buy a storage locker.

I bought a total of 5 large cabinets and 1 floor table.

For lunch, I ate at my favorite mala tang (spicy hot pot) place, and then asked him to cook 20 servings of soup packets. I also went to a stir-fry restaurant I loved as a child and got two servings of sweet and sour pork, five servings of braised pork hock, and three braised fish to go.

At this point, there was no money left in the phone, and the credit limit had been used up.

I pulled out 300 crumpled banknotes from the car; this was the cash I had specially exchanged for the old man before the race.

I used the money to fill up the gas tank and went home satisfied.

After getting home, I first put the packed groceries in the kitchen, then went back inside to check on the chicks, and then went out to move the furniture.

After moving five large cabinets, when there was only one low table left, my hand suddenly touched something warm and soft.

It startled me so much that I reflexively flung my hand away.

I heard something make two faint cries.

"Is it a rat? Did I touch a big rat?" I felt extremely disgusted, as if I had touched a big rat.

Use a stick to pry open the sack and look inside.

It doesn't seem like that; it's something yellow.

I turned on my phone's flashlight and looked closer, only to find that they were two little yellow dogs.

The two puppies were very small; one was smaller than my palm, probably because it hadn't been weaned yet.

He's lying there with his eyes closed, breathing weakly, about to freeze to death.

I just forcefully threw them both away, and there was no sound. I guess they're about to die.

Although I was certain they would die like those two little yellow chicks, I couldn't just leave them there to die.

He picked up the two puppies and prepared to take them back inside.

Their heads and claws were now ice-cold, only their bellies were slightly warm.
