Chapter 74 Repaying Kindness

Chapter 74 Repaying Kindness

When I woke up in the afternoon, I still couldn't calm down.

But looking at the sangbiao, it remained unchanged as always.

It was as if nothing had happened that it had seen the wolf pack last night.

If it weren't for the wolf mother, I would even associate it with a scumbag boyfriend.

I made a mistake the day before, and my girlfriend was still sulking. The next day, I pretended that nothing had happened and wanted to let the matter pass by easily.

But it's just a small animal, how can I hold a grudge against it?

Since I actually saw the wolf pack yesterday, I'm even more afraid to go out.

However, I still need to water them. The weather is so hot; if I don't water them for a day, I'm afraid they'll all die from the heat.

I came up with a good idea: I'll take Sang Biao out to water the plants.

According to the novel and TV series, if the wolf pack attacks me, Sang Biao should protect me.

So I mustered my courage, pulled a cart full of water, and opened the gate to the courtyard.

Just as I was about to walk out, I was stunned by the scene before me.

There was a bloody smell outside the gate; three pheasants and four rabbits lay scattered on the ground.

The bloodstains had stained the soil red.

I looked at Sang Biao with a question in my eyes.

"What does this mean?"

Sang Biao's eyes sparkled again as he walked around the rabbits and pheasants with his head held high.

So, the result of its negotiation last night, which lasted about ten minutes, was that its family managed to get some wild game to help us.

I was both amused and exasperated; it seemed my worries about being harmed by wolves were unfounded.

Now that I've repaid my debt of gratitude and paid for my medical expenses, the probability of him killing me should be relatively low.

I don't know when the pheasants and rabbits were put here; the blood on the ground has congealed somewhat.

So I first bent down and picked up the rabbits and pheasants and put them inside the yard, then pulled the cart to water the plants.

Sang Biao consciously followed me.

As I watered the plants, I kept an eye on my surroundings, still afraid that a wolf might suddenly pounce from behind.

After watering, there was no movement around, so it seems the wolves weren't here during the day.

When I got home, I hesitated for a moment, then dug out a lot of potatoes from the ground.

The potatoes have grown quite a bit bigger now, much larger than when we first ate them.

After returning home, I first put the potatoes in the kitchen, and then brought the pheasant and rabbit into the kitchen.

It's still a bit hot, so there's no rush to deal with it.

I thought I should give a return gift, so I filled two large buckets with water and placed them outside the courtyard gate.

It's hot outside now, so it's probably hard to find water on the ground. I don't know if they'll be able to find that pond.

If animals can drink a large bowl of water in one go, just like when I first met Sang Biao, then they are indeed very thirsty.

After an hour, when it got dark, I started to prepare the chickens and rabbits.

Before processing, prepare a large bowl of dough to make steamed buns.

First, I used a small knife to skin the rabbit. It was my first time doing this, but I wasn't as resistant as I had imagined.

Perhaps living a farming life for a long time makes one more psychologically adaptable.

I boiled a large pot of water and scalded off the pheasant's feathers.

Use a kitchen knife to gut the rabbit and pheasant, discarding all the internal organs except for the gizzard and heart.

We'll leave it outside. My younger brother and his friends can eat some if they want, or we'll deal with it later tonight.

After everything was prepared, the four rabbits were frozen in the refrigerator.

Including the fish from before, the refrigerator is now completely full again.

There's nowhere to put the three pheasants, so I'm going to stew them all.

I've been really craving chicken, but I can't bear to kill my own chicken, so I haven't eaten it yet.

I never expected that I'd be able to eat wild chicken thanks to Sang Biao.

You can't hunt anything yourself; there are very few birds around here, let alone pheasants.

First, I chopped the chicken into small pieces with a meat cleaver, and then I peeled a large bowl of potatoes.

A large iron pot is necessary to stew this many chickens.

They lit a fire in the stove with firewood and put a lot of oil in the large iron pot.

Once the oil is hot, add scallions, ginger, and garlic, stir-fry until fragrant, then pour the entire bowl of chicken pieces into the pot and stir-fry.

There was a lot of meat from those three pheasants; my arms were aching from stirring them so much.

Once the chicken is fragrant, add the potatoes and stir-fry together, then add the soybean paste and continue to stir-fry.

By the time my arms were almost too sore to lift, the aroma of the soy sauce had been released.

Four large ladles of water were added to completely submerge the chicken.

Add some thirteen-spice powder, chicken bouillon, and other seasonings, then cover the pot and start stewing over high heat.

While stewing the chicken, steam the buns in an electric cooker.

The electric cooker has three steaming trays, and I steamed three trays full of large steamed buns.

If you have too many steamers and the steamed buns won't cook through, wet a towel with water and drape it around the steamers to allow more steam to enter.

As I always do, I fill a whole steamer with sweet buns.

After the steamed buns are done, I'll stew the chicken a little longer.

Since it's pheasant meat, the meat is quite tough, and if it's not stewed until tender, it's hard to chew.

So I took a sugar bun back to the darkroom and ate it while waiting.

Tear open a small hole in the steamed bun, and hot white sugar will flow out.

My favorite food is steamed buns with the edges dipped in white sugar. The sugar syrup soaks into the edges of the buns, making them especially fragrant when you bite into them.

After finishing Xin'er's food, the leftover steamed bun skins were given to the dogs sitting in a circle on the ground.

Although we treat them well normally, feeding them meat all day long, they become especially greedy when steamed buns are made.

I don't know why, but I can eat plain white steamed buns without adding any meat.

The most typical example is the small melon, which can be swallowed whole without chewing.

They also gave Sang Biao a piece, and he seemed to like it quite a bit.

However, since there will be stewed chicken later, I won't feed him any more.

Once the chicken is almost cooked, start scooping it out.

Including the chicken, potatoes, and soup, it made three full bowls.

I have a bit of a headache; it seems I haven't controlled the amount properly. So, let the dogs eat their fill today.

First, place a large basin aside to dry; this is feedback to the wolf pack.

You can't just take someone's things for free and then give them a little water in return.

Then I started serving the dogs food. Today there was a large amount, so small bowls wouldn't work.

Take out the stainless steel tray from before, put chicken, potatoes and soup in it, and then break off a few steamed buns.

Two large trays of food were placed directly on the ground, and Xiao Di, Xiao Gua, Sang Biao, and the four dogs gathered around, munching away happily.

I discovered that Sang Biao doesn't mind spending time with Xiao Di and Xiao Gua, and they even occasionally lick each other's fur.

I'm relieved that they get along well. The better they get along, the more it proves that the wolf pack won't harm Xiaodi and Xiaogua.

Then I served myself some food and started eating.

It smells so good! I haven't had chicken in ages, this chicken and potato stew is absolutely delicious.

Pheasant meat is firm and chewy, with a slightly slippery texture, and becomes more fragrant the more you chew it.

The potatoes were stewed until they were very soft and flavorful, melting in your mouth.

Dip a small piece of steamed bun into the sticky broth of the stewed chicken and potatoes, and it's incredibly delicious.

I ate two large steamed buns and half a bowl of stewed chicken with potatoes, and my stomach started to bulge again.

My dogs and I ate most of the bowl, and there are still two and a half bowls left.

Seeing that the dogs had licked the plate clean, I poured the remaining half-bowl of chicken back in.

The main problem is that there are too many leftovers and nowhere to put them.

I emptied the refrigerator of fruit and made room for a small bowl of chicken.

The remaining basin was broken into pieces, six large steamed buns were mixed in, and it was laboriously carried outside the courtyard gate and placed with the water bucket.

I specifically checked the bucket, and it was still full of water, so it seems the wolf pack hasn't come yet.
