Chapter 81 Another wave of free purchases

Chapter 81 Another wave of free purchases

After the autumn harvest, I rested for two days to recharge before going to town to choose furniture.

I'm rather greedy and probably want a lot of things, so it's definitely impossible for me to haul them back and forth in a small cart.

Walking alone is exhausting, let alone carrying a lot of stuff.

I plan to drive the small truck there. The diesel fuel in the basement is basically useless; the small truck will be enough.

There were hardly any people in the town, and they had all gone to Bai Town. There wasn't a single person left in the village either.

Therefore, driving there is not very dangerous.

Going out at night means you'll encounter fewer people, making it safer.

Sangbiao happens to be home today, so I can take him with me tonight.

In the evening, we first added diesel fuel to the small truck, and then carried Sang Biao, Xiao Gua, and Xiao Di onto the truck.

After locking both the house door and the courtyard gate, I drove off with a thud.

As soon as the car started moving, Xiao Di, Xiao Gua, and Sang Biao were all quite frightened.

But after a while, seeing the scenery outside move slightly, they found it amusing and began to observe their surroundings.

Seeing that they weren't too resistant, I felt relieved and focused on driving.

I didn't encounter a single person on the road, so I parked my car at the furniture store I used to frequent.

When they got off the bus, they took the three dogs and the wolf with them.

By this time, the furniture market was dilapidated and had lost its former glory.

Most of the things inside had been moved out, and I don't know what was moved out; I can't remember anymore.

What's left now are mostly items that are too heavy to move.

The wolf and dog sniffed around, seemingly quite enjoying the place.

I turned on my flashlight and started looking for usable furniture. Suddenly, the flashlight shone on a figure in the corner.

It scared me so much that I trembled all over and broke out in a cold sweat.

At this moment, Sang Biao also noticed her and began to make a professional wolf howl as a threat.

This was the first time I'd ever heard Sang Biao yell like that, and it really startled me.

The little melon also made a whimpering sound, but it was clearly different.

Sure enough, no matter how hard Xiaogua tried to imitate, he couldn't sound like a real wolf howling.

If there hadn't been a real person there, I almost would have laughed at it outright.

Forget it, let's get down to business first, we can laugh at Xiaogua next time.

The person in the corner was wearing a worn-out tracksuit and had short hair, but was petite and clearly a girl.

He crouched on the ground, holding a wooden stick in his hand, his eyes full of vigilance.

This is very similar to me when a stranger came to my house that day.

I understand her fear right now. Although I'm not a saint, I can't bear to see her trapped in the same fear of isolation and helplessness that I am in.

"I'm also looking for something. Let's just leave each other alone."

I broke the deadlock quietly.

Upon hearing this, she thought for a moment, then slowly stood up, loosening her grip on the wooden stick.

Then she turned on her flashlight, and we each searched for what we wanted.

My favorite and most needed item is a kang table. I can't live without it every day, and the more the better.

The remaining kang tables in the shop are all very heavy; they're the ones I really liked but couldn't bring myself to buy.

It looks like a piece of mahogany furniture, with winding curves in the table legs, giving it a very artistic feel.

Such a great thing, and now it's being given away for free. I'm even starting to feel glad I didn't spend money to buy it back then.

They moved the last four kang tables directly onto the truck.

I've set my sights on that expensive rosewood coffee table that I couldn't bring myself to buy before.

The huanghuali tea table is even more beautiful, with a simple and elegant design, a solid and sturdy feel, and a glossy, oily color that looks very expensive.

The only reason this wonderful item wasn't moved is that it's too heavy and takes up too much space, but I still gritted my teeth and, with trembling legs, carried it onto the car.

No one took the stepped ladders, so I didn't stand on ceremony and took the remaining five.

A large swing rocking chair placed in the corner caught my attention. It was pale yellow all over, with a large frame that could seat at least three people.

If only I could put this in the yard, it would be so comfortable to rock back and forth all day long.

I went over and tried to move it, but I could only pry one side open; I simply couldn't lift it.

Just as I was about to give up, the girl suddenly came over and stood on the other side to help me move it.

"Let me lend you a hand."

Her voice was also hoarse, so it seems she's similar to me, not talking very often either.

Thank you.

After I thanked them, the two of us worked together to lift the rocking chair onto the truck.

I've set my eye on a cream-colored sofa.

Two single sofas plus one double sofa make a complete set.

After I struggled to load the two single sofas onto the truck, the girl helped me lift the double sofa onto the truck as well.

After collecting five more carpets, there was nothing left to take.

So I followed the girl to see what she needed to carry and helped her move it.

She didn't stand on ceremony and helped her move a bed into the car.

It turns out she parked her car behind the furniture store; no wonder I didn't notice it at first.

Then, as if by unspoken agreement, we stopped talking and went our separate ways.

Our second stop was the curtain world; it would be great if we could take some leftover fabric home.

The curtain world was also dilapidated, ransacked and looked empty compared to before.

But it's clear that there are still things you can take.

Holding a flashlight, I walked to the innermost part of the room and found two goose down comforters that felt exceptionally soft. I quickly put them in the car.

Back outside, I swept the messy fabrics off the stall onto the ground and picked up all the neatly folded fabrics underneath, putting them all in the car.

They also took two sacks of cotton, gathered a large amount of needles and thread, and found two particularly good cotton mattresses and several straw mats.

I put it in the car and was about to drive away when I suddenly realized something and ran back.

The sewing machine is right here, all exposed, and nobody's taking it!

Then I won't stand on ceremony and will carry the whole sewing machine onto the car.

He grinned and chuckled as he drove off to other places.

The most worthwhile thing about this trip was the sewing machine; it will save me so much time when making clothes in the future.

I'm missing an air conditioner, but most households in small northern towns don't have them installed.

It was very dark. I looked carefully and finally spotted the air conditioner unit on a nicely decorated two-story house.

I carefully climbed through the broken window on the first floor, praying that there were no corpses or other strange things in the house.

When we reached the second-floor window with air conditioning, I finally breathed a sigh of relief. Everything went smoothly, and I didn't see anything scary.

After a lot of effort, we finally managed to get the outdoor unit and the air conditioner down.

Load it into the car and drive home.

I got home at 2 a.m. After unloading everything from the car, I was ready to drive out again in one go.

By this time, the three of them were fast asleep in the back seat of the car.

I drove to the supermarket first.

Just as I expected, there was basically nothing there.

I'm not discouraged; this is exactly what I expected.

The next stop was a hardware store, which was also completely bare.

However, I found some hard plastic sheets, which I can keep to make chicken coops, rain shelters, and the like.

A large bundle of plastic sheeting and sunshade cloth was found in the corner.

I guess the others thought it was too bulky to carry and didn't take it, but for me it was a treasure, so I threw it all into the car.
