Chapter 84 Piglets

Chapter 84 Piglets

The market and the parking lot are very close, only twenty or thirty meters apart. If there's a problem, I'll rush back immediately.

The patrolling men would only glance at me briefly before looking away, which gave me a great sense of security.

The more indifferent and uncaring they are towards me, the safer they feel.

When you arrive at the market, it's incredibly lively, with all sorts of things for sale.

They really are from the countryside; their ability to be self-reliant is amazing.

Even though the high temperatures killed most people, a lot of grains, vegetables and fruits were still grown this year.

The market had a wide variety of vegetables and fruits, and people were also exchanging grains for food, as well as some wild game.

However, the prices are not uniform; different stalls have different requirements.

Some vegetable stalls required meat in exchange for vegetables, while others required salt.

After making inquiries, I found that the most valuable and scarce items right now are salt and meat.

I asked about the prices of several chicken sellers, and they all had very high requirements.

Perhaps because everyone ate their chickens during the extremely cold period, live chickens are now in short supply, and two sacks of grain are needed to exchange for one chicken.

After much searching, I finally found a few places selling piglets.

It seems that the farmers raised them themselves and managed to save them with great difficulty.

Several piglet sellers joined forces to protect the piglets.

Six or seven burly men stood together in a row, creating a very imposing sight.

How much is this piglet?

After I mustered up the courage to ask, I felt a little embarrassed. Maybe it had been too long since I'd socialized. I should have asked about exchanging.

What do you have to offer in exchange?

A burly man asked me in a rough voice.

Is there anything you want?

I don't want people to know what I have right away; let them decide.

"What we want is something you don't want to change."

The burly man thought for a moment, but didn't say what he wanted to say.

"You have to tell me so I'll know if it exists or not."

They haven't even told me the price yet, and they've already started playing mind games. Aren't people from the countryside supposed to be honest and simple? Why are they doing business like this?

I silently complained to myself.

"Will you exchange the salt or not?"

Oh, you wanted salt, but I didn't bring much.

How much salt would it take to trade one?

"At least 10 bags."

The man seemed to have uttered some terrifying request, looking at me with an unfathomable expression.

My eyes widened when I heard this request.

Even if salt is expensive in the apocalypse, it shouldn't be this expensive.

What used to cost 10 yuan for salt can now be exchanged for a piglet?

The man saw that I was staring at him and thought I was frightened.

“If you think that’s too much, 8 bags is fine too.”

Seeing that I was frightened, he made a slight concession.

"I don't have that much salt. What else can I trade for besides salt?"

The main problem was that I didn't bring much salt; the amount I brought was only enough to buy one piglet.

"Three chickens can be traded for a pig."

The man waved his hand, as if he was certain I couldn't afford it.

"Ten bags of salt and three chickens, plus two boxes of eggs, and three piglets. Do you want to trade?"

Seeing that I was rambling, the man was momentarily confused and unsure whether it was worth it.

He turned to look at the man next to him, who thought for a moment and then nodded.

"Okay... let's do it this way!"

I feel like I got a great deal. Three pigs were traded for such a small amount of stuff?

Perhaps piglets are only precious to people like me who don't have piglets.

Just like they don't have chickens, they still consider chickens very precious.

My hardworking mother, please take good care of the chicks in the future. Your children are my means of transportation.

"I want one male and two females."

As I spoke, I looked into the cage.

The burly man who had been talking to me pointed to the pigs in the cage and introduced them to me one by one.

"These are from the same litter. You can take them separately from the other litters. They're all pretty much the same and all look very energetic."

"So, has the pig been swapped out yet?"

Just as Big Man and I were looking at the pigs in the cage head to head, we suddenly heard a somewhat familiar voice.

Looking up, I saw the male owner of the family who had bought the pigs before.

"Oh dear, you..."

The man pointed at me, speechless with surprise.

"It's me, it's me."

I watched as the male homeowner greeted me with a smile.

"My God, girl, you're so lucky! I never thought I'd see you again."

The male homeowner was very happy to see me and started talking to me very warmly.

Are you with these families who sell pigs?

Remembering that the male homeowner had just been talking to the big man, I couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.

"Yes, yes, it was so cold during the extreme cold that we practically raised the pigs together. It was a tough time, and we almost didn't make it through."

The man nodded as he told me about the hardships of the extremely cold period.

"It's alright, we've all made it through. But it's such a coincidence that I'm buying pigs from you again this time."

I smiled and continued chatting with the male homeowner.

"Oh, it's an acquaintance. What a coincidence."

The big man chuckled and scratched his head, probably feeling embarrassed about his initial rudeness towards me.

"Could you pick three piglets for me? We've already agreed on the terms."

I smiled slightly at the big man, then turned to the male owner and said, "I definitely trust the male owner who raises pigs more."

Based on the fact that they were happily slaughtering a pig when I visited their home, I believed in his character.

"Let me see..."

The male owner bent down and leaned close to the pig cage, carefully selecting a pig for me.

Finally, three piglets were selected and placed in a separate iron cage.

"Just the three of them, these little guys are fighting over food."

The male owner said this to me while holding the cage.

"Okay, thank you. Come with me to get the salt and eggs."

I didn't reach out and take the cage, after all, we hadn't exchanged money yet.

The burly man and the male homeowner followed behind me, walking towards the car.

When I got to the car, I opened the door, climbed in, and took the eggs and chicken from the back seat.

It's really unfair to the wolf and the dog; they also have to put eggs and chickens in the back seat, squeezing them into a corner.

I really don't dare put it in the truck bed; it could be stolen in a second.

When they tried to take the cage containing the chickens out, it got stuck in the back seat and they couldn't get it out.

I remembered that the chickens were released first, and then Xiao Gua and Sang Biao came in later.

In his haste, he forgot that there were two burly men standing outside watching what was happening inside.

Just pat Xiaogua and Sangbiao on the head to let them come out first.

With a great effort, Xiao Gua jumped from the back seat to the front seat, his head right up to the big man's face.

"Holy crap, that startled me! Girl, you keep a dog?!"

He was probably craning his neck to look inside when a dog's head suddenly popped out, giving him a fright.

I was so engrossed in the activity inside that I had no time to answer the big man's question.

Then Sang Biao also jumped out, jumping even further, directly over Xiao Gua, and jumping even further forward.

The wolf's head struck the burly man squarely on the forehead.

It seems the big man was hurt, as he cried out, "Ouch! Girl, you keep two dogs?"
