Chapter 146 Conflict

Chapter 146 Conflict

The base wasn't very big, and there weren't many people there. After walking against the flow for a few minutes, only a few scattered people were running inside.

We're almost at the base entrance, but we still haven't found any trace of Brother Liu.

I grabbed Liu's wife: "Sister-in-law, it's dangerous outside, why don't we go home and wait?"

As Aunt Liu walked out, she tugged at my hand, saying, "Little sister, listen to me, you go hide at Aunt Liu's house first, I'll go out and see where your Brother Liu is."

Given how things have come to this, I absolutely shouldn't have gone to Aunt Liu's house to hide alone.

But I still turned around and ran back, got into the small truck, tucked two crossbows into my back waistband, rummaged through the truck for a rag to wrap the gun, and ran towards the entrance of the White Town base.

As we approached the entrance to the Baizhen base, my heart pounded in my chest.

I had only ever imagined bad guys coming to my house before, but this kind of conflict between two bases was something I had never encountered before.

I stopped a few steps away from the entrance of the Baizhen base.

A huge crowd was standing outside, completely blocking my view, so I couldn't see what was happening on the other side at all.

At the Baizhen base, the base commander stood at the main gate, surrounded by a group of security personnel with cloth strips tied to their arms, and some male residents who were covered in sweat and looked like they had just returned from the fields.

The two sides were in a standoff, neither of them speaking.

The base elder spoke first: "We've always kept to ourselves, what are you doing now?"

The base elder's voice was calm and measured, yet it sounded somewhat intimidating.

"Keep your distance? You didn't touch that coal mine in Hatta Village? It's such a big mine, and you've hollowed it out most of it. Hand it over right now!"

The voice on the other end was rough and loud, sounding very energetic, like someone who could knock me out with one punch.

"That coal mine isn't yours. If we have the guts, we'll take it. If you don't, what are you barking about at our base?"

That voice belonged to the tagalong who always followed the base commander around.

"How dare you talk like that, you little brat! Believe me or not, I'll punch you to death!"

Upon hearing the tagalong's words, the person on the other side flew into a rage.

"Brother, why waste so much time talking? Let's beat them up!"

Then another man's voice came in, sounding like it was from the other side.

Standing behind a group of big men, I, being so short, couldn't see anything. I had to rely entirely on my ears to find out what was going on, which was incredibly frustrating.

It seems the other party isn't particularly vicious. If they were really here for war, they would have already made their move. They wouldn't be wasting time talking and getting so angry at the little tagalong. So they should be safe.

After roughly analyzing the situation, I moved forward and squeezed out of the entrance to the White Town base.

Seeing what was happening before me, I realized my analysis was wrong; it wasn't safe...

There was a group of people standing opposite, with two large trucks parked behind them; they must have all arrived by car.

At least 30 strong men came, each one tall and burly. They could have easily killed me with a single punch.

Moreover, each of them was armed with clubs and machetes, so the group from the White Town base might not be able to defeat them.

My eyes darted back and forth between the two groups of people, trying to gauge which side was stronger.

The burly men opposite me were all broad-shouldered and thick-waisted, and their standing postures looked somewhat familiar; they looked like wrestlers participating in the Naadam Festival.

Thinking about this made me even more afraid; I was really afraid that I would be beaten around like a punching bag.

"superior!"

My small eyes were still darting back and forth when the burly man with the thick beard in the middle suddenly gave an order, and all the strong men walked towards me.

Although I was a little scared by what they were going to do, it wasn't my turn to fight, there were so many men around.

I glanced to my left, but there was no one there. I quickly looked to my right, but there was still no one there.

!!

At what point did everyone take a few steps back while I remained standing still?

When the base commander saw me standing there blankly, he took two quick steps forward and pulled me back.

"You bunch of cowards, hahahaha!"

The bearded man sneered as he swung a large machete back and forth.

"If you're scared, hand over the coal and I'll spare your lives."

"Do not act rashly, and avoid conflicts easily."

The base commander gave instructions to everyone in a soft but rapid voice.

Then, with unwavering confidence, he said to the other party, "Stop now, and we can still live in peace. But if you take another step forward, don't blame me for being impolite!"

After hearing the base commander's words, a burst of laughter came from the other side. The bearded man laughed arrogantly, "What can you use to be impolite to me?"

"Release the arrows!"

Immediately, all sorts of wooden and bamboo arrows shot out from the base, falling like raindrops.

"Damn! Shield!"

With a loud shout, the bearded man and his men magically produced a transparent panel of some unknown material from behind them and held it in front of them. Despite a barrage of arrows, the panel remained undamaged.

While the arrows were being fired, the base commander ordered everyone to retreat back into the base.

"Go back quickly, I have a way to deal with this."

"No, we have to stay and protect you."

But no one obeyed orders and refused to go back; it seemed they were determined to protect the base commander to the death.

Within minutes, they had used up all their arrows and lowered their shields.

"What other way is there to be impolite? You think you can pull out a gun? I've never even seen a gun in my life. Show it to me."

They didn't have guns, and I guess the White Town base didn't either. I was surprised that two large bases couldn't produce a single gun.

But on second thought, it makes sense. After all, in this remote mountain village in Inner Mongolia, it's already quite an achievement to be able to gather people together and build a base after the apocalypse. Hunting rifles have long been contraband, so where else could they get guns?

I gripped the gun in my hand, unsure whether I should take it out now.

"Stop talking nonsense, hurry up and get going, grab the coal and go home to sleep."

The bearded man had completely lost his patience. He waved his hand, signaling the burly men to charge forward.

The burly men rushed over, kicking up a layer of dust on the ground.

The male residents of Baizhen base, armed with picks and shovels, rushed forward and began wrestling with the burly men.

From the very beginning, it was clear that White Town Base was at a disadvantage.

"Hey! Hey! Don't kill anyone, just knock him down."

This bearded man was surprisingly kind-hearted; while directing the battle, he also instructed his men to show mercy.

After watching for two minutes, I realized that Brother Liu was also among them, being beaten on the ground by two burly men. He was already bruised and swollen, and his eyes were too big to open.

The base commander was also extremely anxious at this moment, and directed everyone to take the women inside first.

"Quick, quick, bring everyone inside, and turn on the electric fence!"

The base commander watched as his residents were knocked to the ground, his expression one of great pain.

"Forget it, stop hitting me, I'll give you everything..."

We can't delay any longer. If the base commander compromises, he might face even greater oppression. I interrupted the base commander.

"Base Commander! Your gun!"

He quickly tore off the tattered cloth covering the gun, revealing a hunting rifle, and a collective gasp immediately rose from the crowd.
