Chapter 25 Investigation

To be honest, Lao Yan was also very curious about who the person behind the scenes was.

They actually managed to accomplish such a big thing!

He had been working for Xu Hui for a year, but they didn't have a particularly deep relationship.

At first, we only dealt with simple issues: such as tracking down the owners of competing companies, collecting evidence of other companies' illegal activities, and so on.

It's at least presentable.

However, he was quite disgusted by the demands Xu Hui made recently.

First, they found a young girl and almost succeeded by tracking her through her license plate number, but then they lost her.

Then came the attempt to catch young girls. They thought they could wait for them to come to them, but in the end, they still failed.

Now we have to deal with this mess again. Xu Hui did something utterly immoral, and now we have to clean up his mess.

He was extremely unwilling.

She has a daughter of her own, and she has long cursed Xu Hui's ancestors for eighteen generations in her heart for doing such a despicable thing!

Once this deal is finished, I'll terminate the contract with Xu Hui completely. Continuing to do this would be against my moral character. I'm not doing it anymore...

Thinking of this, Lao Yan inexplicably had a premonition.

Could this be related to Wang Feifei?

After getting out of the car, Lao Yan glanced around the internet cafe: it was right next to farmland, with only a few scattered houses nearby, and hardly any passersby. Only a place like this would be a place that caters to the basic needs of unemployed young people in rural areas.

He had a bad feeling; it seemed unlikely that he would find any clues now, and the other party had definitely come prepared.

Sure enough, after he walked all the surrounding roads, he found no municipal surveillance cameras.

Ha! This opponent is interesting; they're not easy to deal with!

Old Yan paced around the internet cafe twice, then smoked a cigarette.

He frowned for a long while, then threw away his cigarette, stomped it out, and went into the internet cafe...

The internet cafe owner was a balding, greasy man in his forties, smoking a cigarette, who casually asked:

"Give me your ID card after you've worked for a few hours."

Old Yan ignored him and scanned the area with his professional eye. There were cameras here as required, but not many.

The boss noticed his strange behavior and was about to ask him a question.

Old Yan spoke up: "My nephew lost two thousand yuan from his pocket while using your internet cafe yesterday. I suspect it was stolen from here. I want to check the security footage."

The boss was furious after hearing this and cursed:

"Damn it, my place is spotless, and you just say it got stolen? Pay up to go online, or get the hell out of here!"

Old Yan wasn't angry. He put on a smile and offered the boss a cigarette.

"Boss, calm down. I was just checking the security footage. It's not like anything will happen."

After saying that, he took out a hundred yuan and put it on the table.

"Just take a look, I definitely won't cause you any trouble."

The boss immediately stopped being angry when he saw the money, and a smile spread across his greasy face.

"Hey bro, you should have said so earlier. Watching the security footage is easy. Come on in this room, take your time."

"Would you like some Wanglaoji? I'll get you a bottle."

After saying that, the boss led Lao Yan into a small room at the back of the internet cafe.

That was where he slept; it was filthy and reeked of a foul stench.

There was a computer next to the bed. Old Yan sat down, enduring the stench, and began to check the surveillance footage.

There are a total of six surveillance cameras: one at the entrance of the internet cafe and five inside the internet cafe.

Old Yan quickly spotted a suspicious person.

This person, wearing a hat and mask, appeared to be a woman. She disappeared after entering the internet cafe, and none of the five surveillance cameras in the internet cafe could identify where she was sitting.

During the midday commotion, he saw a fight on the security camera at the entrance, and he also saw the woman take advantage of the chaos to walk out and disappear.

Old Yan's hunched back gradually straightened...

Cold sweat broke out on his face. He recognized the figure—Wang Feifei!

Old Yan left the internet cafe dejectedly and sat in his car for a long time without starting it.

What should we do? Should we tell Xu Hui?

He couldn't make up his mind.

His conscience told him not to speak, but his professional ethics reminded him to do his job well for every penny he earned.

He rubbed his face vigorously a few times to try and clear his head.

Just then, the phone rang, startling Lao Yan.

It's Xu Hui.

Old Yan gripped the steering wheel, his eyes glued to his phone, his mind in turmoil.

I finally answered the phone.

Xu Hui: "Old Yan, how's your investigation going?"

Old Yan steadied his voice: "We've already located the internet cafe that originally posted the video."

"I'm in a very bad situation right now. This is a blind spot for municipal surveillance."

“I also watched the surveillance footage from the internet cafe. That person was very alert and stayed in the blind spot of the camera the whole time. I could only vaguely see a figure. He was wearing a hat and a mask, so I couldn’t tell who it was.”

After the call ended, a long silence followed...

"You mean there's no way to find out who this person is, is that right?"

"Yes, we've really hit a dead end; we can't find anything."

Xu Hui hung up the phone in anger: "You're fucking useless!"

Xu Hui rubbed his head and sat back down on the sofa, completely clueless.

He was so angry that he swept everything off the coffee table and smashed it all over the floor.

Are we just supposed to sit here and wait to die?

No, no, it wasn't easy for me to get this seat.

The master's words echoed in his mind:

"Do good deeds, stay away from trouble, and stay away from children."

Everything the master said came true.

Xu Hui decided to go to Faquan Temple again.

This time when he went out, Xu Hui was "fully armed," wearing a hat, a mask, and sunglasses.

Faquan Temple is located in the far suburbs south of the city, on a hillside with beautiful scenery.

Xu Hui had no interest in sightseeing and sped all the way to the temple.

He didn't know what the master's Dharma name was back then, so he searched through all the old monks, but ultimately couldn't find it.

Unwilling to give up, he grabbed the young monk who was leading the way and asked, "Have we met all the masters this time?"

The young monk lowered his head and thought for a moment: "That's right, all the masters of our Faquan Temple have introduced you to them."

"But our Master Huijue passed away three years ago. Is he the one you are looking for?"

When Xu Hui saw Master Huijue's photo, his mood plummeted.

There's probably no way to deal with this now...

On the way back, Xu Hui was distraught and, by some twist of fate, drove to the vicinity of an unfinished building.

There was nothing around, just this lonely neighborhood.

"What bad luck, how could I drive to a place like this?"

Xu Hui then turned the car around and drove away.

He will never know that this unfinished building has a deep connection with him!
