Sitting in the passenger seat, Wang Feifei seemed to still have a part of her body left in that dark basement, completely lost and disoriented...
Chen Nian was driving when he saw Wang Feifei's condition and felt heartbroken.
He parked his car in front of a roadside milk tea shop:
"I'll buy you some food, something sweet, it'll make you feel better. Wait for me."
When he returned, Chen Nian was carrying two cups of milk tea, one of Yuan Yang (a type of milk tea) and the other of a pair of stockings. He handed the Yuan Yang to Wang Feifei.
Wang Feifei remained seated, seemingly dazed, without reaching out.
"Feifei, take this quickly."
Hearing "Feifei," she thought she heard her father's voice, snapped out of her daze, and asked:
Do you see the suitcase I'm carrying?
Did you bring it with you in the car?
"Here, here." Chen Nian held her left hand, opened her palm, and stuffed a cup of milk tea into it.
"It's in the trunk, don't worry."
"Feifei, drinking a little will make you feel better."
Feeling the warm temperature in her palm, Wang Feifei gradually regained her senses.
She took a small sip; it was sweet and warm, and her mood improved somewhat. Sure enough, sugar can awaken happiness, as if the missing parts of her body had been made up for.
As the car drove further and further away, looking at the streets outside the window, Wang Feifei gradually relaxed.
She rolled down the car window, letting the howling wind mess up her hair, and suddenly turned to look at Chen Nian.
The sun was setting in the west, and the warm glow of the setting sun shone on Chen Nian's face. His profile, backlit by the light, looked like it was gilded with a golden silhouette...
She noticed for the first time that Chen Nian was also very handsome, with a sunny and strong facial structure that only stood out under the sunlight.
Chen Nian felt the burning gaze and glanced at Wang Feifei.
Wang Feifei was a little embarrassed and lowered her head to ask:
"Chen Nian, where are we going?"
You'll see when you get there.
The car drove into the dense forest and entered a residential area built halfway up the mountain.
This area is clearly a luxury villa district.
“There’s a park here that I used to come to often when I was a child. I’ll show you around.”
Chen Nian parked the car in an open space and led Wang Feifei into the small park.
There are many children living nearby, with their parents following along, running around unsteadily.
There were also several slides and a castle in the middle, and the children's innocent laughter dispelled Wang Feifei's anxiety.
They chose a double swing and sat on it.
The sunlight filtering through the leaves cast dappled golden light on the ground, a beautiful sight that seemed like something out of a dream.
They swung on the swings, chatting idly...
Chen Nian stroked the thick rope in his hand, his expression somewhat forlorn.
"This is where I grew up, I spent my childhood here, and my family used to live here."
He pointed to a house in the distance.
Wang Feifei looked in the direction he was pointing and saw a charming little villa nestled in lush greenery, with a distinctly French flair.
Did you used to live there?
Chen Nian nodded: "Yes, I lived here before I was ten years old."
Then a hint of sadness crept onto his face:
“My father used to own a company, but he went bankrupt when I was ten years old because he expanded blindly and accumulated a lot of debt.”
Chen Nian lowered his head: "Back then, people came to our house every day and smashed things. My mother had just given birth to my younger sister and suffered from severe postpartum depression, and then..."
"Later, my dad moved me away from here and opened a small supermarket."
He took a long breath and quickly composed himself:
"Actually, my life is pretty good now, and I'm very content. Sometimes when I'm happy or miss my mom, I'll come here for a stroll."
Wang Feifei looked at him with heartache. How could she not understand the feelings of someone who had suffered such a sudden misfortune? She never imagined that beneath his sunny exterior lay a pain he didn't want to talk about...
Chen Nian turned his head and reached out to ruffle Wang Feifei's hair:
"Feifei, I know you have a secret..."
"Whenever you want to talk about what happened today, feel free to come to me. I'm a great listener."
Wang Feifei swung on the swing, rocking back and forth, when suddenly she looked at Chen Nian and asked:
Do you believe in reincarnation?
Chen Nian sighed: "I didn't believe it before, but now..."
"Chu Xiang is my calamity in two lifetimes. Thank you for saving me today."
...
In the hospital, Chu Xiang woke up and saw Pan Xin by his side.
He remembered being ambushed, and his sleepy eyes immediately turned fierce:
"Where's that bitch? Have they caught her?"
Pan Xin's expression was full of disdain: "You still have the nerve to ask me? How could she escape like that?"
Chu Xiang felt a rush of blood to his head and a wave of dizziness washed over him.
When he raised his hand to touch his head, he noticed that his head was wrapped in bandages, and blood was seeping through the gauze.
"Damn, that was really heavy-handed."
"You ambushed me!" Chu Xiang exclaimed angrily. "I was so close to catching her!"
He suddenly remembered something and hurriedly asked Pan Xin:
Did you see who hit me?
"I didn't see you. When I went downstairs, I only saw you lying on the ground." Pan Xin blinked.
"Was there a third person besides the two of you at the time?"
Chu Xiang rubbed his head, trying hard to recall:
"I remember seeing a figure behind me out of the corner of my eye before I was hit. The figure was taller than me. Then I lost consciousness."
Pan Xin's eyes darkened: "Maybe the surveillance footage can find out who it is."
"Yeah, how come I didn't think of the property management's surveillance cameras!" Chu Xiang pulled out the needle from the back of his hand and ran out of the hospital, with Pan Xin following behind.
