Chapter 45 New Clues

After a long time, when Pan Xin heard no more movement, she stumbled out of the cabinet.

Chu Xiang lay pale-faced on the floor of the living room, a large pool of blood beneath him...

She knew Chu Xiang owed a lot of money, but she didn't know it would have such serious consequences.

At first, Chu Xiang told her not to come out, and she thought he was easy to talk to because she was eavesdropping. It wasn't until she heard Chu Xiang scream that she started to get scared.

Pan Xin slowly approached Chu Xiang, his nostrils filled with the smell of blood. He was motionless, as if he were dead.

Seeing so much blood for the first time made her feel nauseous: "I can't let him die here and make a mess of the house. I should call an ambulance."

She even had a wicked thought: it wouldn't be so bad if Chu Xiang died in the hospital...

Private investigator Lao Yan hasn't contacted Xu Hui for a long time since that phone call.

My wife just called to say that our daughter has acute appendicitis and needs immediate surgery.

Thinking that he was, after all, the biological father, he should at least spend some money to visit his daughter. Although he didn't want to cooperate with Xu Hui anymore, he could still use the remaining payment to tide him over.

He knew about the last court hearing. Having worked with Xu Hui for so long, he was well aware of the boss's extensive connections and influence.

He believed in his heart that this was just a "minor bump" in Xu Hui's life, and he secretly felt sorry for Wang Feifei. This was the tragedy of an ordinary person.

That's just how the world is. Even if he looked down on Xu Hui's despicable deeds, there was nothing he could do. He still had to survive, and it wasn't worth risking his own life.

Old Yan urgently needed money and couldn't wait for Xu Hui to come out before looking for him, so he decided to go to the detention center that very night.

After obtaining Xu Hui's written proof, then ask his secretary to pay the remaining balance. Xu Hui did this before when he was on a business trip, and it wasn't a big problem.

What he didn't know was that he would encounter someone else tonight, someone a hundred times more powerful than Xu Hui...

Xu Hui was determined to win the second trial tomorrow, and was in a fairly good mood at the moment. The work he had been owing for the past few days had piled up like a mountain, and he was already thinking about what to do first after he got out.

He had just been notified that someone was visiting, and he wondered who it could be.

When he arrived at the meeting room, he found that the person who had come was Old Yan, who had come to collect the remaining payment.

Xu Hui readily signed the form.

Old Yan was reliable enough, and Xu Hui thought that after he got out, he might still need to ask him for help with Wang Feifei's matter.

This imprisonment taught him that it's best to nip things in the bud and prevent future troubles.

He was about to speak when Old Yan spoke first:

"Let's terminate our cooperation after this final payment is settled."

Xu Hui was puzzled. As the employer, he was quite generous in paying, but after working with Lao Yan for so long, why did he suddenly not want to continue? Did he not want to make money?

"Could something have happened outside while I've been locked up all these days?"

He remained silent for a moment, then continued Lao Yan's words with a serious expression, asking:

"Old Yan, we've been working together for years. You can't just quit like that. You have to give me a reason."

“You’ve been handling Wang Feifei’s matter the whole time, and she’s still nowhere to be seen. At least finish this job before you leave, and I can give you double the money.”

Old Yan's abandonment now is not a good thing for Xu Hui. The fewer people who know about Wang Feifei's affair, the better. Finding someone else to follow her is obviously not a wise move.

Old Yan understood the implication: Xu Hui was trying to trick him into revealing information, and he might have become suspicious.

When Lao Yan went to the internet cafe to investigate, although he guessed that the person behind it was Wang Feifei, his stance was the same as last time, and he did not want to reveal it to Xu Hui.

He looked down on Xu Hui's actions and didn't want to get involved! However, there was no need to escalate the conflict at the moment:

"Mr. Xu, my daughter is sick and needs surgery. I want to spend more time with my family. I probably won't be able to find the time for almost a year."

"There's no other reason. I'm here to collect the money today because of my child... You'd better find someone else..."

Old Yan found a reason that Xu Hui couldn't refuse and wanted to end the conversation, since Xu Hui had already signed the document, so it was better to leave sooner rather than later.

After hearing his reasons, Xu Hui's expression deepened, and he stared at Lao Yan for a long time.

Old Yan is a veteran, and he returned the smile with a polite one.

Xu Hui couldn't see anything amiss, so he could only nod helplessly.

After exchanging a few polite words, Old Xu left.

In the corridor leading to the exit, he encountered a man.

The man had a face that resembled Xu Hui's by seven parts, but the oppressive aura he exuded and his eagle-like eyes made Lao Yan very uneasy.

Years of experience and intuition told him that this person was not someone to mess with, and it was best to avoid any contact with him.

He lowered his head, quickened his pace, and passed by.

Xu Neng also noticed the man walking towards him:

His insightful eyes, neat attire, and tense posture set him apart from ordinary people.

Xu Neng recognized his profession at a glance—a private investigator.

Was he the person Xu Hui arranged to meet?

There's definitely something fishy going on!

Xu Neng quietly entered the reception room and waited for Xu Hui to arrive.

Xu Hui had just returned to his residence when he was notified that someone wanted to see him.

"Wow! Tonight is going to be really lively!"

Xu Neng came here tonight because of a dream he had at noon. In the dream, the owner of those eyes was an extremely beautiful woman.

In front of him, she plunged a dagger into Xu Hui's heart. His warm blood splattered onto his face, instantly waking him up.

For the first time, Xu Neng realized that Xu Hui actually held a significant place in his heart.

This dream gave him a vague sense of foreboding.

Even though I'm fully prepared, why am I still so restless?
