Chapter 24 Public Opinion Out of Control

By noon, having not received any news from the private investigator, Xu Hui was already getting restless.

I called my secretary in all morning to bring me three cups of coffee, but I still couldn't calm my anxiety.

The video's spread has spiraled out of control, and the man in the video has been identified.

Xu Hui was restless. Outside the president's office, employees were whispering and gossiping.

"No way, is it really President Xu?"

"Of course it's true! I've seen the video, it's very clear, it's President Xu."

"How disgusting! Mr. Xu is such a playboy in private."

"I heard there's also a video in the bathroom, my God, even movies wouldn't dare to film like that."

"Poor girl, she's probably a high school student."

"That's right, they're worse than beasts, with human faces but the hearts of animals."

"Do you think the former CEO Wang might have known something, which is why he was silenced..."

"Looking back now, Mr. Wang was a really good person when he was alive."

"Stop talking, or Mr. Xu will find out!"

Looking at the chorus of condemnations online, Xu Hui felt a chill run down his spine: "I'd better find somewhere to lay low for a while."

Xu Hui grabbed his car keys and walked out of the office. The corridor was lined with workstations on both sides. As he walked, the employees whispered among themselves and followed him with strange looks, which made him feel uneasy.

He knew he was in big trouble this time.

After much thought, I decided to hide in a villa in the suburbs for a while. It's a secluded place with few people, and parking is easy, so I won't be easily seen.

During the drive, Xu Hui's palms were always sweaty. He recalled being dragged to Faquan Temple by his business partner last year. He had never believed in ghosts or gods and did not want to go, but he could not persuade his partner to let him go.

Just as he was about to leave, a master blocked his way and asked to speak with him.

Xu Hui followed the master to a Buddha statue. The master asked him to bow three times, which he did.

Seeing that he was quite devout, the master sighed:

“From now on, you should do more good deeds, stay away from trouble and children, for this is the way to salvation.”

After saying these words, the master left.

Xu Hui was completely stunned at the time, and didn't take those words to heart at all. He just dusted himself off and left.

But then he remembered this incident, and a chill ran through him...

"Do good deeds, stay away from trouble, and stay away from children."

Suddenly interrupted by a phone call, Xu Hui was overjoyed. Could it be that the private investigator had news so quickly?

He glanced at his phone and was surprised to find it was his younger brother calling from the United States.

Xu Hui has a half-brother named Xu Neng.

The two brothers never contact each other and have a distant relationship.

Xu Hui knew perfectly well that this phone call was anything but good.

Xu Hui and his younger brother are very different in age. Xu Hui was in his senior year of high school when his younger brother was brought into the Xu family.

He hated his younger brother because he felt that this stepmother was the one who killed his mother.

Xu Neng is 32 years old this year. He graduated from Harvard University with a master’s degree in finance. He is a senior executive at a top investment bank on Wall Street. He has exceptional intelligence and has almost never lost a case over the years.

Xu Hui quickly hung up the phone; he had no mood to chat with his younger brother right now.

Less than five seconds later, the phone rang again...

"He really wouldn't let it go."

Xu Hui was very impatient, but eventually answered the phone.

Xu Neng's cold voice came from the other end of the phone:

"You're in trouble. I saw that video. You're really something, stirring up such a huge mess. How are you going to clean this up!"

Then he sighed: "Do you need me to go back to China to help you?"

Xu Hui grew up under the crushing influence of his younger brother. No matter how hard he tried, he could never match his brother's achievements.

Now that she was in such big trouble, she was even more resentful of her younger brother getting involved.

Xu Hui suppressed his anger and said irritably:

"No need, it's nothing serious, I can handle it myself." He then hung up the phone.

Xu Hui was disturbed by the phone call.

From the moment his younger brother was born, Xu Hui became the backdrop for the child prodigy.

Because of the vast difference in their abilities, whenever they were together, he would always be inferior, even though they were thirteen years apart in age.

What's even more unbearable is that no matter how hard he tries, his younger brother can always easily surpass him.

He was in a gifted class from a young age, was directly admitted to Tsinghua University in high school, and went abroad to Harvard with ease.

This phone call directly triggered painful memories for Xu Hui.

Of course, he didn't want Xu Neng to come back and interfere in his life; it would never happen!

Xu Hui parked the car in the villa's garage and walked heavily into the entrance hall.

No one had lived here for a long time, and everything was covered in a layer of dust. Xu Hui took off his shoes with disgust and put on slippers.

Exhausted, he lay half-reclined on the sofa and irritably loosened the tie around his neck.

I've always had a smooth career, but this time someone messed with me.

From the moment Xu Hui joined Wang Feifei's father's company, he was very clear about his goal: to serve the Wang family with humility, even to the point of being reduced to dust. He was prepared for this goal.

Once he's fully grown and has someone get rid of the boss, he can easily take over the company.

He knew that to defeat someone of high moral character, one could win by being humble and despicable enough.

He understood these kinds of people's weaknesses all too well; with just a few words, he made Wang Feifei's father give up the struggle and willingly accept his death.

Even after Xu Hui reached the pinnacle of his power, he was often troubled by that incident.

Perhaps it's because I'm getting older, but I've started to become anxious and insecure.

Later, he learned from a circle that virgin blood could ward off disasters and difficulties, and so he began his sinful ways.

Once they tasted the sweetness, they couldn't stop and have been playing it for years.

Xu Hui frowned and rubbed his temples hard. He hadn't expected the truth to come out so quickly.

He dared not go online to see how things had progressed.

I can only try to recall the unusual things that have happened in the past few days, hoping to find some clues...

The private investigators have already traced the source of the video through hacking.

The location was traced to the internet cafe where the video was first uploaded.

The detective's name is Lao Yan. He is quite well-known in the industry, but unfortunately, his job, which keeps him away from home all the time, makes it impossible for him to keep his wife.

It's really not easy for Lao Yan to raise a child alone. When he can't be with his wife, he asks his apprentice for help.

After a while, the two got together.

Three years ago, his wife filed for divorce and remarried his apprentice, taking their daughter with her. The apprentice didn't learn any skills, but he developed feelings for his master's wife over time.

Old Yan had nothing to say; he had seen through many things in life and readily agreed to the divorce.

My only worry is my daughter. She was only 6 years old when we divorced, and now she's 9...

His thoughts drifted for a long time, and before he knew it, Lao Yan had arrived at the address provided by the hacker.

This is a remote town, so desolate it's terrifying; you can only occasionally see a few old people and children.

After parking his car, Lao Yan had a bad feeling about him...
