Xu Neng randomly picked a rectangular cardboard box and cut it open. Inside, four light tubes were neatly stacked, each wrapped in foam shock-absorbing material.
"Mr. Xu, what are these? Are we moving them all?"
"Move all the lighting equipment now, and do it quickly."
Xiao Gao was a little confused. Why make such a fuss over "lights"? Did President Xu think the base was too dark?
Anyway, it's always right to listen to him, but there are only eight of them, how can they move so many boxes?
Xiao Gao suddenly remembered the few flatbed trailers he had glimpsed on the way here, and quickly reported it to Xu Neng:
"Mr. Xu, I think I just saw a few flatbed trailers. Using those would be much faster for moving goods. I'll go get them."
Xu Neng glanced at the pitch-black space and decided to go with him to retrieve it.
They walked one after the other in the darkness, with Xiao Gao leading the way with a flashlight and Xu Neng secretly following behind.
One operates in the open, the other in the shadows; this combination allows for greater flexibility when danger arises.
After his eyes adjusted to the darkness, Xu Neng was able to see some things clearly. He held his breath and followed, always maintaining a distance of about eight meters.
Sure enough, at the end of the road after two forks in the road, there were three flatbed trailers parked.
This is the most common flatbed cart in supermarkets. It has a handle, a large metal flatbed attached to the back, and four wheels underneath.
The flatbed truck can be stacked as many times as it can be transported, making it a true cargo-moving marvel.
Xu Neng suddenly remembered the large supermarket he saw when he came to the office building. If there were supermarket carts here, then it was very likely that this underground warehouse was connected to the supermarket!
Supermarket, trailer, temperature...
There might actually be someone here!
Xu Neng was about to remind Xiao Gao to be careful when he saw that the light from Xiao Gao's flashlight had stopped.
Upon closer inspection, it seemed that Xiao Gao had suddenly stopped and was completely still.
Xu Neng approached slowly, without making a sound...
In the dim light, he could see the metallic sheen reflected off Xiao Gao's neck, and three figures beside him.
"What are you doing here?" one of the men asked in a low voice.
Xiao Gao knew that General Manager Xu was nearby, so he remained calm and said with a smile:
"Don't rush, sir. We're just here to move some things, just a few lamps."
"Lighting fixtures? What do you need lighting fixtures for?"
"Light fixtures are for illumination, not for eating, right?"
Another man spoke up: "Boss, don't listen to his nonsense. The power's been out for ages, what's the point of having lights! I think they're trying to sneakily loot the basement."
The leader grew impatient, increasing the pressure on his hand, and said through gritted teeth:
"Tell me the truth, or I'll kill you right now!"
Xiao Gao felt a sharp pain in his neck, as if liquid was flowing out. He panicked and looked around.
Xu Neng's voice could be heard coming from the darkness:
"Shine it in his eyes!"
As they were talking, a man next to Xiao Gao suddenly collapsed, and the man with the knife stared intently into the shadows.
"Who, who is it!"
Taking advantage of his panic, Xiao Gao quickly raised a flashlight and shone it directly into his eyes.
The man's pupils were already dilated to their maximum size, but when suddenly exposed to the bright light, his eyes instantly became bloodshot and stung.
He clutched his eyes in agony, and in an instant, Xu Neng appeared, snatched the knife from his hand, and stabbed him.
Although the stab wasn't fatal, the excruciating pain rendered him essentially immobile, and he was eventually knocked unconscious by Xu Neng's punch.
Two people were taken care of, and only one person remained.
Before Xu Neng could make a move, Xiao Gao kicked him hard and then pounced on him, subduing him.
His hands were pinned behind his back by Xiao Gao, while his body was pressed firmly to the ground.
Xu Neng asked with a cold face:
Who are you?
"Don't kill me. We used to work at the supermarket. He was the warehouse manager, I was a stocker, and that was a security guard."
Xu Neng roughly understood how these people had survived. The supermarket's openly displayed goods had been looted, but some of the stock warehouses still had supplies.
They have survived until now thanks to these supplies.
How many people are there in total?
The worker who was setting up the goods was terrified; his body was trembling uncontrollably, and he stammered, unable to speak.
They look like ordinary people, not thugs.
Xiao Gao loosened his grip and explained:
“We’re not here to loot supplies. We’re taking some daily necessities. Without electricity, these are useless to you. There’s no need to risk your life, right?”
"You're really not here to steal anything?"
"We have our own things, why would we rob you? If you don't believe me, you can check what's in the box later. However, if you still refuse to explain clearly, for safety's sake, we'll have to kill everyone."
"No! No! Don't! The other people are our wives and children, please don't hurt them!"
Finally getting the question out, Xu Neng gave a wink, and Xiao Gao released the man:
"Mr. Xu, what do we do now?"
"Tie the two people on the ground up with rope, and then we'll go check on the others."
Xu Neng couldn't be completely at ease until he saw it with his own eyes.
But the man still wouldn't cooperate, trembling and refusing to leave.
Xu Neng thought of Wang Feifei and the child, and seemed to be able to feel that feeling of wanting to protect his family even if it meant his own death.
He rarely softened his tone, but he comforted her:
"Don't worry, if you're telling the truth, I won't hurt them. We're just seeing them to make sure we're safe. We'll take what we need and leave."
"If what you said is true, we have diesel generators in our warehouse. We can give them to you next time you come, so you will have electricity in the future."
