Upon hearing that Li Zheng and the others were unable to return on their way and that the attendees had been replaced without reason, Chen Yu immediately realized that someone was trying to cause trouble.
He then said in a deep voice, "Since Vice Minister Li and the others will not be back for some time, let's wait until they return before we hold this meeting!"
“This…” Li Xiubo looked bitter upon hearing this.
Just then, a man wearing glasses and dressed simply stepped out from the crowd and said to Chen Yu, "Commander, isn't this inappropriate? Our meeting is serious, and the time has been set. How can we postpone it just because a few people are not present?"
Chen Yu looked up and glanced at the other person sideways, then said calmly, "And who are you?"
The unassuming man puffed out his chest and said neither humbly nor arrogantly, "Ministry of Labor, Zhao Wenhong."
Upon hearing this, Chen Yu sneered: "So it's Minister Zhao."
“Chen Yu, ‘Tianyu Base’ is not your base alone. You gathered us together for this meeting, and now you want to change the time. Isn’t that disrespectful to all of us? Moreover, the operation and development of the base is crucial every minute and every second. We cannot easily disrupt the entire plan because of the absence of a few individuals.” Another portly middle-aged man stepped out of the crowd.
"This is Xu Long, sent by the city, and currently the honorary minister of our base's armed forces department," Feng Xinran explained to Chen Yu in a low voice.
Chen Yu nodded slightly upon hearing this, then looked at Xu Long and asked, "Are you from the city? May I ask what position you hold in the city?"
"I am the director of the municipal government office." Xu Long, with his round belly protruding, spoke with a hint of arrogance in his voice. "Chen Yu, don't forget, you are ultimately just a private entrepreneur, a private entrepreneur nurtured by our Zhongyang City. Everything you have is given to you by our government. Even the 'Tianyu Base' was established with the support of our government. To put it bluntly, you can only be considered one of the initiators of the 'Tianyu Base' at most. All decisions of the base should follow the opinions of our municipal government, and you cannot run the base like a dictator. Everything must follow the opinions of everyone in the base."
After patiently listening to Xu Long's long speech, Chen Yu said calmly, "And then, Director Xu, what are you trying to say?"
Xu Long frowned upon hearing this. He hadn't expected Chen Yu to respond so casually. He paused for a moment, then his expression darkened slightly as he continued, "Chen Yu, I'm just reminding you that as the base commander, you should respect rules and procedures more, rather than arbitrarily changing meeting arrangements based on your personal whims. The absence of Vice Minister Li and others is regrettable, but it cannot be a reason for us to postpone the meeting. The base's operation requires efficiency and stability; we cannot miss an opportunity because of a temporary delay."
“Commander,” Li Xiubo cautiously interjected, trying to ease the tense atmosphere, “Minister Xu’s words, though blunt, do have their merits. Why don’t we hold the meeting first, and then have someone relay the meeting’s contents to Vice Minister Li and the others when they return?”
“Chairman Li is right, Commander. As you know, we are racing against time right now. The scientific research mission is extremely urgent. Every minute of delay could have an immeasurable impact on the future development of the base,” Chen Zongkai, Deputy Minister of the Science and Technology Development Department, also stepped forward and said with a laugh.
Chen Yu did not respond to this, but instead looked at Feng Xinran from the Resource Management Department and Wei Hongbo from the Health Department: "And what do you two say?"
“I think it’s better to wait for Li Zheng and the others to come back. We won’t be short a few hours,” Feng Xinran said.
"I second that," Wei Hongbo stated succinctly.
Chen Yu nodded, his gaze slowly sweeping across the conference room: "Since there is a disagreement between the two sides, let's vote by raising our hands, so that some people won't accuse me of running a one-man show again."
“I agree. Let’s give the decision-making power to everyone, and let the minority obey the majority!” Zhao Wenhong immediately echoed.
"That's for the best." Xu Long nodded in satisfaction.
Someone wanted to say something, but Chen Yu stopped them directly.
"Now, those who agree to hold the meeting now, please raise your hands," Chen Yu said in a deep voice.
As Chen Yu finished speaking, the conference room fell silent, and no one raised their hand for a moment.
However, at that moment, Xu Long calmly raised his right hand and said indifferently, "I agree."
Following his lead, Zhao Wenhong raised his hand, Chen Zongkai raised his hand, and more and more people in the audience followed suit and raised their hands.
For a moment, the atmosphere in the conference room became subtle and tense, as if an invisible contest was unfolding.
Chen Yu glanced around and saw that most of those who raised their hands were unfamiliar faces, though a few familiar faces were mixed in.
Chen Yu showed no sign of panic; he had already anticipated this outcome.
“Very good, I see.” He said in a deep voice, not loud, but loud enough for everyone to hear clearly.
"Now, those who agree to postpone the meeting, please raise your hands," Chen Yu said again in a deep voice.
As he finished speaking, the atmosphere in the conference room changed again. Lin Lele and Feng Xinran raised their hands without hesitation, followed closely by Wei Hongbo. Their actions were swift and firm, as if they were silently supporting Chen Yu's decision.
Many people in the audience followed suit and raised their hands in support.
According to statistics, a total of 121 people supported holding the meeting immediately, including 118 ordinary attendees and 3 people on the dais: Xu Long, Zhao Wenhong, and Chen Zongkai, for a total of 268 votes.
A total of 137 people supported postponing the meeting, and 135 people were in the regular seats. Since Chen Yu was the initiator, he did not participate in the vote. There were two people in the chairman's seat, Feng Xinran and Wei Hongbo, for a total of 135 votes.
