Chapter 345 City Entry Permit

After Old Sun woke up, Chen Yu confirmed his experiences in Stone City with him.

He felt somewhat heavy-hearted.

He initially thought the emptiness of the Stone City granary was due to official corruption or plunder by some large illegal force.

Who would have thought that the grain was taken away by some so-called "special task force," and that all of it was moved away.

Keep in mind that Stone City is a megacity with a population of nearly ten million!

Their blatant disregard for people's livelihoods by emptying such a massive grain reserve is undoubtedly a serious violation of the residents' right to survival.

No wonder Lao Sun and his group were so hostile towards the "anti-cold disaster relief militia" before; they thought the "militia" was also part of the "special task force".

“Sir, I think there’s something fishy about this. The ‘Special Task Force’ is, after all, a regular force of the Great Xia. How could they do something like this? Kyoto is the political center of the Great Xia. They wouldn’t completely disregard the lives of the residents in the surrounding cities for their own selfish reasons.” Lin Lele raised her doubts.

"Hmm." Chen Yu nodded thoughtfully.

These days, all sorts of strange and unsavory things exist, and what you see and hear may not be true.

The truth still needs further investigation and verification.

Since their destination was Kyoto, Chen Yu decided to take the opportunity to investigate the whereabouts of the grain stored in the Stone City granary.

Although I have always believed in avoiding trouble and not wanting to cause any problems, the situation at the Stone City granary was truly appalling. They forcibly seized grain without regard for the lives of millions of people, which was utterly outrageous.

If he sits idly by, who knows if such a horrific tragedy will happen again in the future? Or even if such a thing will happen to Tianyu Base in the future?

After calming down the survivors of Stone City, Chen Yu led his team away from the city.

Before leaving, he also told the main force of the "militia" behind him to leave some food for the survivors when they passed through Stone City.

…………

Chen Yu's experience in Stone City made him realize that Kyoto today is probably not as peaceful as he had imagined.

Moreover, there is likely a military presence there, so he needs to keep a low profile when he enters Beijing.

He first ordered the convoy members to cover up the logos on their respective sleds, then scattered them all, preparing to enter Beijing in small teams of one sled at different times and on different roads.

As for the main force in the rear, it was stationed in the mountains 100 kilometers away from Kyoto.

That afternoon, Chen Yu and Lin Lele finally arrived outside Kyoto.

This ancient and modern capital city, bathed in the dim sunlight, exudes a sense of vicissitude.

Despite the fact that the entire planet was covered in more than ten meters of snow due to the extreme cold disaster, the walls of Kyoto still stood tall and immaculate, and even the snow on the ground had been cleared away.

From a distance, it looks as if the entire city is built in a giant snow pit.

At the city gate, the guards were strict, with soldiers wearing heavy cold-weather gear and sharp eyes scanning everyone entering and leaving.

Chen Yu and Lin Lele changed their clothes on the way, disguising themselves as ordinary survivors, and tried their best to make their behavior appear natural and normal as they slowly approached the city gate.

"Stop!" The guards stopped the two as soon as they reached the city gate.

"You two, show me your ID cards." The guard's voice was deep and powerful, exuding an unquestionable authority.

"ID card? Are you guys crazy? With this natural disaster and this awful weather, we're lucky we're still alive. You'd actually check our ID cards?" Lin Lele said incredulously. "Who would carry that thing around with them?"

Upon hearing this, the guard immediately raised his rifle, aimed it at Chen Yu and his companion, and shouted, "No ID, no entry!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Yu and Lin Lele exchanged glances, both seeing a hint of helplessness in each other's eyes.

Fortunately, Chen Yu had placed all his personal belongings in the other-dimensional space. In order to avoid causing any trouble, he took advantage of the fact that the people around him were not paying attention and quickly grabbed his ID card.

Then he politely handed it to the guard.

The guard took the ID card, examined it carefully, then looked up and scrutinized Chen Yu a few times. After confirming that the information on the ID card matched, he looked at Lin Lele warily.

“We’re together, and she didn’t have her ID card with her,” Chen Yu explained, while discreetly slipping a pack of cigarettes into the guard’s hand as he retrieved his own ID card.

The guard's hand trembled slightly. Although Kyoto was well-supplied with supplies, for low-ranking guards like them, Hua Zi was something they wouldn't even dare to dream of, especially since the extreme cold disaster had been raging for more than seven months.

He glanced around and, finding no one paying attention, quickly tucked Hua Zi deep into his pocket. His expression remained serious, but his tone had softened slightly: "In these special times, rules cannot be broken. However, since you're together, I won't hold it against you this time."

"Hehe, thank you very much." Chen Yu smiled and nodded in thanks, then pulled Lin Lele and walked into the city.

"Hey, wait a minute!" The guard reached out and stopped them.

"May I ask if there is anything else you wish to instruct me on?" Chen Yu asked, puzzled.

"Let me see your entry permit," the guard said.

Seeing Chen Yu and Lin Lele's blank expressions, the guard understood and said impatiently, "Since you don't have entry permits, please go back."

He was only being polite because he had just accepted a pack of cigarettes from Chen Yu; if it were before, he would have kicked them both out long ago.
