Chen Yu himself hadn't eaten anything for almost a day. He had only eaten some dry food while he was out. After Lin Lele said that, he was actually a little hungry.
With that in mind, he went to the kitchen, took out two steaks, and started frying them.
Soon, the two steaks were cooked and Chen Yu divided them into two plates.
His original intention was for him and Lin Lele to each have one piece.
However, upon further reflection, Lin Lele had never experienced the cruelty of the apocalypse and had unwittingly moved into his apocalyptic bunker. If he were to treat her to lavish meals every day, wouldn't that make her lose all her fighting spirit?
Thinking of this, Chen Yu silently put down the plate in his hand and took out a box of instant noodles and a box of mineral water from the other dimension.
Chen Yu placed the instant noodles and bottled water on the table, then took out some seasoning packets to prepare a simple dinner.
He knew Lin Lele might be disappointed by the meager food, but that was the reality he hoped she would accept—in this apocalypse, people had to learn to adapt and survive.
Most importantly, people only appreciate things after they lose them. If Lin Lele is fed too well from the beginning, how will we win her over in the future?
He walked into the living room and saw Lin Lele sitting on the sofa, her eyes revealing anticipation.
He walked over, placed the instant noodles and bottled water in front of her, and said softly, "Lele, this is our dinner. This is what life is like in the apocalypse; we need to learn to adapt."
Lin Lele looked at the instant noodles in front of her, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, and asked in confusion, "Wasn't there steak for breakfast?"
"Ahem!" Chen Yu coughed awkwardly and explained, "That's the last stock here. As you know, this natural disaster came too suddenly, and we were surrounded by the police before the disaster, so I didn't have time to prepare supplies."
"Oh." Lin Lele nodded, not doubting Chen Yu's words at all.
She didn't say much, took the instant noodles, picked up her chopsticks, and started eating heartily.
To Chen Yu's surprise, he didn't see any disgust on Lin Lele's face; on the contrary, she seemed to be enjoying it.
Chen Yu was stunned. He hadn't expected Lin Lele to have entered the apocalyptic mindset so quickly. Knowing how hard it was to get food in the apocalypse, he was surprised that the academician's granddaughter could appreciate and be so content with a bowl of instant noodles. This made him feel a little ashamed of his previous worries.
Chen Yu sat next to Lin Lele, quietly watching her eat noodles.
He noticed that Lin Lele ate very carefully, as if savoring every bite. This reminded him of the time before the apocalypse, when they probably never imagined that a bowl of ordinary instant noodles would become so precious.
"Lele, eat slowly, be careful not to choke. Don't worry, we don't have steak, but we have plenty of instant noodles," Chen Yu couldn't help but remind her.
"Really?" Lin Lele looked up, her eyes sparkling. "You're not lying to me, are you?"
"Uh..." Chen Yu was speechless for a moment. It's just some instant noodles, why would I need to lie to you?
However, seeing the hopeful look in Lin Lele's eyes, he nodded and said, "Of course, as you know, we are doing this for the country. In order to deal with this unpredictable disaster, we still have some basic supplies."
"That's great!" Lin Lele said happily. "Sir, you don't know, I actually love instant noodles the most. When I was a child, my grandfather wouldn't let me eat them at home. Later, after I started working here, I had to restrain that craving in order to maintain my image! You don't know, in my eyes, instant noodles are the best food, a hundred times better than any of those lobsters or abalone!"
"Hehe, it seems I can finally achieve instant noodle freedom from now on, and I can do it openly and legitimately!" Lin Lele said with a grin.
"What?" Chen Yu was dumbfounded. He never thought that Lin Lele would be so bizarre. He had intended to make her suffer, but it backfired and Lin Lele found her so-called "happiness".
"Sir, you haven't eaten yet, have you? Want some?" Lin Lele stared with her innocent big eyes and generously handed Chen Yu a half-eaten bowl of instant noodles.
Upon seeing this, Chen Yu waved his hand repeatedly, indicating that Lin Lele didn't need to worry about him, as he had prepared everything himself.
"Oh." Lin Lele put away her instant noodles and continued to enjoy her feast, but she ate much more politely from then on.
Seeing this, Chen Yu could conclude that he had indeed misunderstood Lin Lele before. The reason why Lin Lele ate so carelessly just now was because she was afraid that he would take it from her.
Thinking of this, Chen Yu shook his head helplessly and said irritably, "You can eat slowly, I won't keep you company."
After saying that, he left the observation deck.
"Wait, sir, can I have another bucket?" Lin Lele hurriedly called out from behind Chen Yu.
"No!" Chen Yu said firmly, then pressed the button to close the door.
Back in the restaurant, Chen Yu stared into thought as he looked at the steaks laid out on the table.
After a long while, he shook his head and muttered to himself, "Fine, since she likes instant noodles so much, let her eat them for now. I want to see how long she can last!"
Next, he devoured both steaks to replenish his energy, then tidied up a bit and lay down on the warm, soft bed.
That night, Chen Yu slept exceptionally well.
In this extremely cold apocalyptic world, having a sturdy castle, a constant supply of warmth, and what was essentially an unlimited amount of resources for him made him feel as if he were in a safe haven, giving him an unprecedented sense of security.
