Chapter 1 Heavy Rain

Chapter 1 Heavy Rain

On June 4, 20XX, at 6:30 pm, Fucheng Metro Line 2.

Xia Xiaoman was sitting on a stool, holding her schoolbag, drowsy.

Suddenly, a shrill female voice sounded in my ears.

"Young people nowadays really have no manners. They don't even know how to give up their seats to the elderly, and they are so ignorant about reading that they just sit there!"

Xia Xiaoman opened her eyes and took a look. The other person was a middle-aged lady wearing a white and blue elderly dance costume. Then she closed her eyes and ignored her.

"Hey, I'm talking to you. Stop pretending to sleep here!" The aunt kicked Xia Xiaoman with her toes.

Xia Xiaoman opened his eyes again, slowly took out a utility knife from his backpack, stared at the aunt, and turned the knife in his hand.

The aunt looked at her creepy eyes and the sharp utility knife in her hand, and silently closed her mouth.

Finally having some peace and quiet, Xia Xiaoman was just about to catch up on some sleep when suddenly a sharp alarm sounded from the subway.

She stood up suddenly and looked around. The passengers in the carriage also looked around blankly.

Outside the car window, there was a pitch-black tunnel, and there was nothing unusual inside the car.

Just when everyone thought that the subway alarm was malfunctioning, the subway suddenly stopped.

Someone asked, "What happened? Why did the subway stop?"

But unfortunately, no one at the scene could answer him.

The lights in the carriage flickered. Suddenly, with a click, the lights went out completely. The carriage was plunged into darkness. The atmosphere suddenly became tense. The passengers took out their cell phones and wanted to call the police for help.

I don’t know if it was an illusion, but Xia Xiaoman seemed to hear the sound of splashing water.

"Ahh! Water, water is seeping in!"

A woman backed away, screaming, pointing at the door from which water was seeping.

The passengers in the carriage were all terrified and squeezed to the side, trying to stay away from the door.

Xia Xiaoman turned on her phone and took a picture of the flood water pouring in through the crack in the door. Her face instantly became solemn, and she found a window breaker and started to smash the glass on the window.

As soon as he raised his hand, someone grabbed his arm tightly, "Hey, what are you doing? You can't smash it. If the window is broken, all the water outside will come in!"

Xia Xiaoman struggled to break free from his hand. "If we don't break the window, we will be trapped in the carriage and die sooner or later. Break the window and swim out through the tunnel. Maybe there is still a chance of survival."

The man who stopped her said, "But not everyone can swim."

He pointed at the people in the car and said, "Look, there are so many old, young, sick and disabled people in the car. If you smash the windows, what will happen to those who can't swim?"

Xia Xiaoman frowned, "Then what do you say we should do? Are we going to wait to die here? The compartment is small and the air is thin. The flood outside is still seeping into the compartment."

"There is already a layer of water in the carriage. It won't be long before the entire carriage is submerged. By then, we will all be trapped to death in the carriage."

At this time, some passengers with low psychological endurance in the carriage had already burst into tears.

Someone suggested: "Why don't we go find the conductor and ask him to find a way to contact someone to drive the train to the station?"

As soon as he finished speaking, someone retorted, "You are really smart to think of this method. If the conductor could have a solution, do you think the train would still stop here?"

"It's easy to tell that the car broke down and couldn't start, so it was forced to stop on the road."

Xia Xiaoman walked to the door and put his phone against the car window to take a photo. "The water outside is about up to my thighs. If we break the window and get out now, we still have a chance to survive."

"Those who can't swim can climb onto the roof and wait for rescue after they get out. Those who can swim can swim along the tunnel wall toward the platform. Once you find the rescuers, tell them where the train has stopped."

"No! You can't break the window!" A skinny man stopped Xia Xiaoman, "Who knows if you will still remember us after you get out."

"Besides, if the floodwaters reach the roof of the car, we will just be waiting to die. In a closed car, at least we can survive a little longer."

Xia Xiaoman pointed sarcastically at the floodwaters gushing in, "Are you sure you'll be safe if you stay in the carriage?"

The skinny man's face changed, and he suddenly snatched the luggage of one of the passengers and blocked the door.

"The subway staff must know that we are trapped here. They should be on their way to rescue us."

"We'll try to seal the gap in the door to prevent water from flowing in. We should be able to hold on until the rescuers arrive."

Some people believed what Skinny Guy said and took out their luggage to block the door.

However, this method was of no use. The flood kept pouring in, and in just a few minutes, the water in the carriage was above the ankles.

Some passengers in the carriage vomited and fainted due to extreme tension and fear. Some people, with trembling hands, turned on their phones to record their last words.

Seeing that the water outside was getting higher and higher, Xia Xiaoman didn't want to wait to die there.

Just as she was about to force the window open, the hammer in her hand was suddenly snatched away. Before she could react, the person who took her hammer hit the upper right corner of the car window three times, and many cracks appeared on the window instantly.

Someone reacted and wanted to step forward to stop the man, but the man swung the hammer twice ferociously.

"Don't fucking touch me, or I'll kill you!"

"Everyone is just wasting time here."

"What does it have to do with me if you can't swim? All I know is that if you don't leave the car, you will die."

"You guys can stay in the carriage and wait to die if you want, but I won't be able to wait with you."

The man kicked open the broken glass and rushed out of the car first.

The flood outside was more than ten centimeters higher than the car windows. As soon as the windows were kicked open, the flood outside rushed in all at once.

Xia Xiaoman reacted quickly. After the man went out, he was the second one to climb up the window and jump out.

Some other passengers who could swim came to their senses and rushed to the windows.

Some people are kindhearted and keep shouting to let the old, young, sick and disabled go out first. But there are only a few people who will really help them.

After Xia Xiaoman left the carriage, he walked towards the platform.

After walking for a while, the flood water reached her chest, so she simply swam directly, which would be faster.

After swimming along the tunnel for nearly half an hour, I suddenly saw a dazzling light in front of me.

Five minutes later, Xia Xiaoman was rescued.

She told the search and rescue personnel the location where the train was stuck and the number of people affected. The search and rescue personnel immediately arranged a few more kayaks according to what Xia Xiaoman had said.

With the help of the search and rescue personnel, Xia Xiaoman and his team successfully returned to the ground.

Looking around, there is nothing but tall buildings and vast ocean on the ground.

"Little sister! Come over here! Hurry up."

A PLA soldier paddling a kayak not far away waved at her.

Xia Xiaoman waded over, and the other survivors on the kayak pulled her aboard.

"Little sister, where do you live?" asked the PLA brother.

"Jiangshan Flower City, No. 3, Funan Avenue."

An uncle nearby heard the place name Xia Xiaoman reported and said excitedly, "I live there too."

"Comrade, the boat is full now. Please take me and this little girl back to the community first."

"No, Jiangshan Flower City is too far. Take me back first. My home is just around the corner."

The PLA brother ignored the quarrels of those people. Based on the addresses provided by them, he had planned the most convenient route.

He followed his own route and sent the survivors on the boat to their destinations one by one. On the way, he picked up two survivors who were traveling the same way and continued rowing along the route.

Bean-sized raindrops fell from the sky, and all kinds of garbage and debris floated on the water. Cars on the street were also overturned by the flood.

The doors of many roadside shops were knocked open by debris in the flood, and all the items inside were washed out by the water.

After more than two hours in the rain, Xia Xiaoman finally successfully returned to the community.
